I FOUND IT!!! I've had this piece stuck in my head for over a year and a half after hearing it on the radio, always wondering what it was and who composed it, and now I'VE FINALLY FOUND IT!!!! This is the happiest I've been in a long, long time. I can't believe it! Just as beautiful as I remembered it to be. What a wonderful day this turned out to be
@@pantherausf.d6914 im also around that age, but it is my opinion that any genre certainly has great music. Although I may (possibly) agree, I have to point out the hypocrisy within that comment
My dear little cat "Duchess" of 12 years of age thank you, RIP my beautiful pet while you have given me sooo much happiness you have left me broken hearted, its a week since I put the radio on today and to my delight greeted with "The Tales of Hoffmann" for you. Gods blessing on all little creatures forever Amen.
A year after the sinking of the Titanic, the countess of Rothes, after a period of mourning and being traumatized from surviving the sinking , started to go out in public . It was one night, while at a restaurant, she was thoroughly enjoying herself when suddenly, a overwhelming feeling of doom had struck her full force and the terror of that night was again replaying itself. She realized that the restaurants band were playing the Tales of Hoffman, and it is what she claims to be the last song played at dinner that Sunday night . The last bit of peace and happiness so many passengers felt unaware , most were to die just shortly later.
OMG. I had to watch that movie in 9th grade. When I told my sister we watched it she said "I heard the guy had a romance. Did he get the girl?" I responded no and she said "sad Principessa noises" XD
It's September 2024. No matter how many times I listen to it, I never get tired of it. Absolutely beautiful music. Offenbach was a great composer. Thanks a bunch Offenbach ...
I find it sad that so many people discover classical music so late I life and then only through chance through watching a TV show. I my case I was lucky enough to have a music teacher who introduced me to Mozart, Beethoven et al at the age of 12 yrs! I have been thankful ever since!
Mike, I was introduced to classical music by my 4th grade teacher, Mrs. O'neil, 1949, South Ft. Worth Elementary. She took a few selected students to go see Girl of the Golden West. I was 11 years old and I was instantly hooked. I now have thousands of classical pieces in my computer, my tablets, and my iPods. Most of the pieces I convert, such as this one.
Michael Rimmington At the age of seven my teacher Miss Simmons played to us Elgar's Enigma number Nine 'Nimrod'. The hair stood up upon my neck so charged was the emotional content of that famous piece of music and from then on over fifty years I have been hooked on classical music, for its kaleidoscope of colour and its emotional depth of feeling that it can generate deep within ones soul. That is why I was pleased to hear that my to sons found the classics so pleasurable for them also.
Great music lifts your soul out of your body, for a short time, to embrace heaven. There are many great composers: Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, JS Bach, Johann Strauss Jr, and others. But, Offenbach's "Barcarolle, Tales of Hoffman," is the greatest masterpiece, in my mind, crafted by a great composer. When I hear it, it's like I'm visiting heaven for a while.
@@christinecronje4704 - Actually, even if we most often only hear the music, it is a song. This is from the opera, "Les Contes d'Hoffmann", by Jacques Offenbach.
When I was in highschool this song gave me chills. I'm thirty now and I literally stop whatever I'm doing whenever I hear this song. I still get chills.
BARCAROLLE REPRESENTS THE INCREDIBLE POWER OF THE MIND TO SUBMERGE SOULS INTO THE "PENSIERI" OF LONG AGO. THANK YOU OFFENBACH FOR RELEASING THIS GREAT WORK OF ART TO THE WORLD.
Just gorgeous. I first heard this from a borrowed library CD compilation when I was 16, on headphones in the dark in bed, and was transported beyond the moon. Moved to tears here
I am very fortunate that my Mum enjoyed a wide range of music including classical. Now that I’m older, I am learning the names of the pieces but growing up I just enjoyed listening to the sounds.
Finally!! THIS is the same tune (WITH Operatic vocals no less) that accompanies the water ballet scene in “Hail, Caesar!”. It had been driving me crazy! I knew I’d heard it before and it must be a classical piece. But whenever I looked it up, the Title was Jonah’s Daughter, composed by Carter Burrell. My shiny, green Fish-tail it was! A snippet of this appears near the end of Midnight in Paris, which is probably where I’d heard it before. Sigh!!! Now it won’t drive me nuts anymore.
I have always been awestruck about how people can write music and then, it sounds so amazingly Godly, and peaceful. Yes, I know there is much more involved to it than that. Today, I was at a Math Tutoring Center, and I got the same experience. Algebra, and I, are not enemies, however, we are very unlikely bedfellows. We have never been friends. This, young lady, made Algebra, which I usually see as chaos, "look" like this piece of music. Sweet, beautiful, and melodic. God less her.
When I was in grade school, many years ago when they still taught music, we learned this to the melody; "Barcarolle from Tales of Hoffmann written by Offenbach." That's how we would remember all the classics we were introduced to in those days.
This is a really cool melody. My late Dad told me it was a sailor's song. Very nice to hear and enjoy. This kind of music is relaxing just what one needs to hear after a busy day.
I was 8 years old when my piano teacher decided I wasn’t good enough to continue learning in the conservatory books. Instead she continued teaching me with the Thompson piano book which included the piano version of this beautiful piece. I played it at my piano recital and it is today the only song I can remember how to play on the piano! 💕
TenStarsplus !!!! This is without a doubt one of the most beautiful arias ever written!!!! What is especially beautiful, is where the cellos blend into the flute movement!!! The result is just fantabulous, and beautiful!!!!! So smooth and soothing, like a glass of fine wine after a really hectic day!!!! Thank you for posting one of my favorite musical pieces!!!!!!! Kudos!!!!
I am learning to play this on my country's national instrument: The Steel Pan. This is such a lovely piece... and it sounds just as beautiful on the pan.
Im so happy! My great grandmother had her funeral today and this was played. My Mom cried and told me this was my grandmothers favorite music piece and she didnt know the name and me neither. After an hour long search I can put my and her mind at ease.
In 1964 my 6th grade music teacher introduced her classes to symphony and opera music. Barcarolle was a favorite of her’s & one I will always remember. Just a magnificent composition.
Not during the sinking, some time before she struck the ice burg. The band played Alexander's Ragtime Band, then Songe d'Automne (or Nearer my God to Thee, by some accounts) in the ship's final moments.
Merci pour vos contemporains, et toutes les générations qui ont suivi et pour celles à venir. Je suis triste pour ceux qui ont quitté notre monde sans avoir eu la chance d'entendre cette si belle musique.
In 1960 Elvis Presley did a version of this beautiful song in the movie GI blues and it was titled "tonight is so right for love", check it out for those of you who would like to here what this great waltz sounds like with words added to it..

You must be on the wrong video because Barcarolle is not a song.
