I'm an electrician by trade myself. I enjoy your videos and have learned a couple of things I didn't know from them. For example, I didn't realize that you could check the mechanism by feeling for the gears through the hole up top. One safety tip, though: One should always disconnect the hot first: hot, then neutral, then ground. (When reconnecting, it's ground, neutral, hot.) But I did like how you capped off the hot with a wire nut while working. That's always a good extra safety step, even with the power off, as you never know when some idiot will turn the power back on without checking why it's off.
WHAT???, I spent all day dreaming of having a nice hot jacuzzi, and I turned the Jandi valves to to correct position and turned on the gas heater. I went all dressed up with my cocktail in hand out to my jacuzzi, and everything was off!. Any time you want to fix something you come to RUclips.com, right? After a few keyword searches, I found this post. Viola, the timer was just tripped at the top of the hour and was too close to turn off time. "...pull out the timer away from the turn off peg, and all good." Game on Negra Modelo. Dude, you rock Generation Tres.
Great advice here: First, without turning off power, stick your finger into this high voltage device to make sure it's working, then remove the ground safety wire first to make sure your imminent electrocution isn't spared, followed by the rest of the live wires while the power is still on. I really hope nobody has electrocuted themselves after watching this video.
*Recently we launched a video with a STEP BY STEP explaining how to install and make the right connections in an Intermatic Manual Timer Control* . You can find the video here >> * ruclips.net/video/AIK4fE8UmWM/видео.html*
@scottNlillianNkelly Good point. Not too concerned about that with a timer. Always with an electrical service. Still that is the right order when working with wires.
it would have been nice to know what wires go where and why. Not just stick the wires back where they were. What if your installing a new timer and you dont have wires already attached?
@stevohouston It is my belief that knowledge is to be shared. You should be aware that it is not illegal for homeowner to do electrical work in their own homes. People are not going to get killed by learning how to do basic electrical work. They get killed by not learing.
Hello, I have one of this installed and the switch that is to turn on the hot water heater is failing. The one that turn it off is working just fine. Is it possible that I need to replace the switches? Or what else could it be?
Great video and helpful too but I am little confused. I am replacing my pump motor 1 HP USQ1102 but I forgot the locations of the wire I took off from the Intermatic timer. My motor has green which I know but am confused between white and red. I have similar timer with three points. I am guessing that I took the white from 1st connector and red from third. Would you have any idea..
@stevohouston Humm. According to hustiontx.gov. Exempt work. section 301.2. 4. Repair or replacement of current-carrying parts of a switch, contactor or control device. 5. Reinstallation of attachment plug receptacles, but not the outlets therefor. 6. Repair or replacement of any overcurrent device of the same capacity in the same location. The people of Texas do not have to hire you to replace an outlet switch or a timer. I do agree with you about handymen. Hire an electrician!!
@Generation3electric I was taught that even when replacing outlets and lights .Why you ask because when you discount the hot first on any thing your working on you don't have worry so much about getting shock even tho the neutral could always have another circuit coming back on that neutral. I don't how state laws are for where you live but we are allowed to have 1 neutral for every two circuits. Accept for dedicated circuits going to bathrooms, pools ,and kitchens
this might actually be a good video if 1 you taught people that you should always turn the power off first! and 2 if you actually told people what each wire was for i.e. what is the red wire? what are the black ones. this info is the info most people are looking for, how to actually wire this timer. any jackass can unhook a wire and re hook it up, knowing what each of the wires is is what will actually help
@stevohouston I'm sorry to hear that the government in Texas is so intrusive that a home owner can't replace their own timer. It was my belief that Texans were independent people. I did not know that minor electrical repairs were soooo life threatening. Grow up!!
So much detail left out unfortunately I have no idea which wire is which with this information it's very vague does not give detail again which wire goes to the clock timer which wire goes to the line going out to the pump motor or to the lights need to know which is the line coming from the breakers and where do they go simple things like that. Unfortunately this is very vague that leaves out detail of what wire is which what does it do why does it do it basic common sense and changing out the mechanism is not that useful most people can figure that part out themselves the technical is where they needed the help.
They get killed by doing work live without turning the breaker off first which you do not do in many of your videos including this one. Nice spark. If your making videos to train homeowners how to do "basic" electric work why don't you start with safety.
I'll never understand why electricians would make videos to show people who have no clue what they're doing how to do electrical work. This guy is a clown
This has to be the worst video I’ve ever seen Fail #1-sticking your finger in a device with gears. Never a good idea Fail #2-the power is still on....you can see the wires sparking Fail #3- to didn’t explain a single thing about why the wires go where they go
IT IS ILIGAL AT LEAST IN TEXAS!! . THATS WHAY THEY HAVE INSPECTION AND LICENSING,ELECTRICAL WORK ITS ONLY TO BE DONE BY LICENSED ELECTRICIAN (CERTIFICATED ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR) NOT BY HOMEOWNER OR HANDYMAN! VIDEOS LIKE THIS NEED TO BE REMOVED BEFORE SOMEONE GET KILED. IF YOU WANT POST VIDEOS TO HELP ELETRICIANS POSTHEM ON ELETRICAL BLOGS AND SUTCH WEBSITES
stevohouston You should explain with a heart teacher what are you doing and why step by step so the video is informative , if you have the talent to teach don't do this tip of videos .

Thank you for this!! We had ours go out and didn't know what to replace. Now we won't get ripped off with a complete overhaul!!!

Shazam eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
only an idiot would not turn off the power so Shazam could whack-off at the thought of flowing electricity
I was watching this thinking the exact same thing
Very helpful, thanks. If I was in Philly I'd use y'all.
Great instruction video!

Can't hear much and not much explained. What terminal is what?

@joelpuy14 Thank you for the feed back.
You can see me setting the time at the very end. Next time I get a chance I will do this in more detail.
Did you ever make the vidwo showing how to actually install a new timer to the breaker?
Ground is always the first thing you tap up and the last thing you disconect
BE SAFE---you have to start with turning off the power
Hello, I have one of this installed and the switch that is to turn on the hot water heater is failing. The one that turn it off is working just fine. Is it possible that I need to replace the switches? Or what else could it be?
you forgot to start the video with a flashing red message saying...TURN OFF THE POWER AT THE BREAKER BOX BEFORE DOING ANY ELECTRICAL WORK
Great video and helpful too but I am little confused. I am replacing my pump motor 1 HP USQ1102 but I forgot the locations of the wire I took off from the Intermatic timer. it is ok to wire a pool ligth and pool pump to the same timer?

What I don't get is the neutral line, I see that it is needed to power the timer motor but where does the neutral wire come from?
If you are going to instruct, explain what you are doing.
Wonderful, thank you

Gosh, I'm surprised he wasn't standing in a pool of water while he was at it...
Ay masomenos no , no esplico la conecion como deve ser
This one here that one there so now you can guess the next wire lol if he was a teacher we all fail
I came here to learn where a specific wire goes. Thanks for nothing
lol at the romex inside
my pinkie does not fit what ever will i do
"First take off the ground".... First turn off the power at the breaker - AND verify with a tester that its actually off?...maybe....
@tweeetme Gay? I guess you could call it that. Thanks for the feed back
@stevohouston I'm sorry to hear that the government in Texas is so intrusive that a home owner can't replace their own timer. It was my belief that Texans were independent people. I did not know that minor electrical repairs were soooo life threatening. Grow up!!
Never remove the ground first
No mention of turning off the power...sparks evident...unbelievable what is allowed on RUclips. Hope no one gets killed!
So you don't turn the power off lol

Como lo busco en español
like the video forgot 1 thing the hot is allways the first thing to be disconnected and last to connected when instaling
does this guy know what he's doing?
Do you?

show to wire pool motor
Could just clean the contacts...
This is a "replacing a timer" video not installing.
I got dumber watching this video!
Thanks for nothing, where do wires Go?
Never START with the ground fool...end with it
This video should be deleted..not safe and he shows you nothing!
I'll never understand why electricians would make videos to show people who have no clue what they're doing how to do electrical work. This guy is a clown
Very bad explanation of what all the wires represent.
Very poor instruction on where the wires go
Dude remove the hot first you silly goose
lul
sad
Not helpful at all

Ya, always remove your ground first. The most important part of the entire electrical system. Genius
