    Ha, thanks for the name check. That was a good watch, and bought memories back of my LEJOG last September. I enjoyed the freedom of camping especially with the situation of last year, but it can be hard work with the extra gear.
    Done it twice now, want a hat trick now, but will start in JOG next time!

    Great video thanks - doing LEJOG next year for my 60th, been wanting to for years - still can’t decide on camping vs B&B.. I notice you said you wouldn’t take all the camping gear if you went again? Would you book places? Thanks v much again for the video

      Changed my since. When I go again I'll probably take a lightweight bivvy bag setup and sleep under the stars and when the weather looks dodgy find a bnb. Good luck on the LEJOG - it's certainly worth it!

    Very inspiring - I'm doing it in September to celebrate my 65th year (66th actually; I'll be 65 this year). Any tips on getting your bike and gear to Cornwall, and back from JOG?

      Hi David, I can only share what I did. I got lift down to the Cotwolds, cycled to LE, then went to JOG. After that cycled down to Edinburgh and took the train back home followed by a short ride journey home again.
      Am sure there are plenty of trains that run down into the SW. Just remember to book a bike on the train and book outside of peak hours is the rule I hear from others.

    Hi Richard. I'm planning to cycle JOGEL in August by novice bike packing / wild camping. Just wondering which sleeping bag did you use as I need a compact lightweight sleeping bag?

    • @BikepackingAdventures
      @BikepackingAdventures  3 года назад +1

      Hi, it was a season 1-2 sleeping bag from Mountain Warehouse - nothing expensive or fancy. Good luck on JOGEL!

    great video, When I do my LEJOG, might take 3 or 4 weeks, because I would combine it visiting places I would like to look around, such as the National Arboretum and Beamish. and on most long multi day camping rides I tend to do Freestyle, use a basic route but often make detours. thats why on long tours, I just use sat nav to record route, and paper maps to navigate.

      32C Continental Gator Hardshells. Typically I set off anywhere between 8-10 every morning. Camping slows you down like that!

    Hi Richard, great overview of your adventure! I’m considering doing LEJOG this year, I have been training hard mostly indoors on Zwift at moment until the weather improves. I would love to combine the trip with a mix of camping with hotels/b&bs, but been in 2 minds of taking the extra kit and being weighed down VS having pre-planned stops, with lighter loads. This is especially important if I want to complete it in 9days! I think your words of wisdom around leaving the camping gear at home is probably a good idea if I’m going to attempt it within 9days for minimal faffing and weight. Oh and I have the same tent as you, but only used it a handful of times. 👍

    • @Bexxy
      @Bexxy 3 года назад

      Oh, FYI - I listened to the video on my iPhone with AirPods and the commentary was not in stereo, could only hear the audio through left ear until you switched to the ride footage clips which worked fine.

    • @BikepackingAdventures
      @BikepackingAdventures  3 года назад +1

      Ahh thanks for that. I would have never have thought to listen back wearing headphones. That should be easy to fix on future videos. 👍

    • @BikepackingAdventures
      @BikepackingAdventures  3 года назад +1

      Would depend on the route I guess, I diverged significantly from a direct route and had a day off. Also untold in this video my adventure began in The Cotswolds I cycled down to LE and at JOG I still had to cycle back to Edinburgh so even before I got to LE I already had 3 days riding in my legs. 9 days is definitely doable camping if thats your thing, but at the end of the day it all really depends on what kind of adventure your looking for and how much you want to ride day on day.

    • @Bexxy
      @Bexxy 3 года назад

      @@BikepackingAdventures - wow that’s impressive! Thanks for the extra insight! I probably will trial the camping on a 2 day trip before making final decision. How did you get on with the tent itself, did it work for you?

    • @BikepackingAdventures
      @BikepackingAdventures  3 года назад +1

      @@Bexxy well as you know its not the most spacious one out there on the market, but is definitely well suited for bikepacking. I think the only omission on my trip was a ground sheet. And by a ground sheet essentially I mean a small one cut to size to have at the the so-called doorway just to help on wet days and also would have been a big help when cooking and eating. Having said that a close park bench at the camp site come in useful.

    With camping how do you manage to keep gadgets charged

    • @BikepackingAdventures
      @BikepackingAdventures  Год назад

      Hi Peter, during my LEJOG I charged up at some campsites, often they will have a room with a freezer or fridge in. Plug charger in and forget about it. Once found empty fridge, unplugged fridge and stuck charger in. Don't forget to take 3-pin adapter. Its hit and miss though whether you will find a socket and you will need to leave your charger or phone unattended. Also during LEJOG I spent a whole day in Pitlochry at a cycle cafe / recharging both power banks for the final bit. Another idea is to charge in cafes en route- I did this as well.
