WITH A SAMPLER YOU CAN BE ANYTHING YOU WANT! It is the last great musical instrument invented. It really is a fully fledged musical instrument. Not everyone realizes this.
So true, creative sampling. I discovered sampling chords like this when I was 14 (1992) and parents had bought me a casiotone home keyboard for Xmas. At first I thought the keyboard was shit since it couldn't do rave! Then later I started experimenting sampling those powerchords you got at the bottom of the keyboard (when auto-accompaniment was off) into an Amiga using the headphone jack and replaying at different pitches, then chords, and getting good sounds. Holy shit that was a discovery!
This may have came from that module too (distorting a certain string with the same chord gets it too), though I suspect it was sampled from another record at the time since it was used a lot, though not sure where it first appeared
I'll check how does that work with U20 electric guitar timbre, thanks! In case you planning doing a tutorial for prodigy-like strings, I could send you out sample of it for reference.
Been searching on how to make a sound from a 90s track and landed here. I originally thought it was fm synthesis but you have gave me something to think about, maybe it is sampling! Thanks for this
Wow. Just wow. BTW, have you tried to recreate guitar stab from "Snap - The Power" ? As soon as I heard single notes of this guitar patch from your XP-30, I immediately thought of Snap 😀
Nice....ill have to try this with my XP-30 too. I can sample it straight to my Amiga and have a play around with creating some more riffs to go with the old-skool tune im working on atm! :-D
I remember reading that the stab sound that Liam used in Out of Space was a factory preset from the Roland JD800 which he owned briefly and famously used to create most of the sounds for the Sunrise mix of Fire. There's also a video of N-Trance on Top of The Pops and at 53 seconds into the video you get a close up of the JD800 - ruclips.net/video/PWguNO3zH9I/видео.html Your reacreation sounds awesome by the way and has a nicer edge to it. Big up!
@@RaveyStabs JD-800's likely providing the piano, since it's (arguably) its most famous preset. The 'Wailing Guitar' patch later went on to feature in 'Voodoo People'. I bought a JD used a few years back, it smelled of Old Spice and half the keys didn't work. Now they're going in the region of a grand and I can't imagine spending that much on a notoriously unreliable piece of gear. It looks like it came out of NASA though, and lights up like Mission Control so it does at least have that going for it. You're much better off getting the JD-990 module instead so you don't have to deal with the weights falling out of the bottom of the keys and trailing red glue all over your carpets.
That's awesome! Great stuff as always! i always wanted to create stabs with "one button" chord memory. Or sample stabs. I love all this 90s era sampling. Is there a cheaper hardware (no DAW) than can do same chord memory or sample stabs that can be played with midi keyboard ?
Hi. How do I sample the chord from the W-30's wave bank, the tone, and the patch? I've been trying to do the same thing as this tutorial by using the W-30's built-in sampler but cannot sample its internal sound source. What I'm going to do is that I want to sample the W-30 wave data with chord without having to use any external samplers such as Akai S-series or MPC. After loading the distortion guitar sound disk floppy from Roland sound library, I chose [62. sampling] then did every settings you mentioned. The loaded guitar sound was heard until pressing Auto. After pressing Auto, nothing was heard or triggered to internal sampler either.
Can each pad of that MPC be assigned its own midi channel, so you could use it as a sound module - and sequence it externally from your synth sequencer, with each sound spanning the keys on each channel, like a S1000 or W30 can?
@@RaveyStabs will get mine out over the weekend i think it was around patch 48 on the presets when you read about the prodigy they mention th boss se effects units were import to their sound

hey man, thanks for making all these videos , they are really interesting/useful!! any chance you can make a vid on how to make the sound at the start of this please? im guessing its just more layering/sampling? :) also how do you make bass like this? ... so many quastions ruclips.net/video/SU7Cw0mU-AM/видео.html

Unbelievable!! I cant believe that it was originally an electric guitar. Im starting to respect sampling much more.

@Nelu Pocioaclea OK Boomer
I grew up on that sound in the early 90s but never realised its origins from a rock guitar! Great example - love the riff at the end
As for other samples of "Out Of Space", the bell and strings were factory sounds from Roland U20/U220 rompler.

Gary Robinson it’s not in the JD -800 I had one in 94
Cool.
This is great
Cool! More, please!

I could not believe it's a sampe of guitar, until you played the riff. Wow. I thought it was played on some analog synth like Alpha Juno
Nope, but alpha juno is capable of some good rave too ruclips.net/video/Fjyt4HPtAus/видео.html :)
Done in old amiga and atari computer programs as well.

a boss se70 has a preset effect on the machine put it on a organ sound and its pretty much spot on for that sound

Just ootae curiosity. Wud this be in anticapella 2✓231 too?
*Obviously* an electric guitar sample when you think about it, but I've gone the past 32 years never thinking about it, apparently 🤷♂
It can also be achieved another way, all about the harmonics!

what is the sampler your using?
MPC-1000
the prodigy stab from out of space was sampled from force mass motion - feel the panic.
Wasn't that record out after out of space? (Rabbit City #7)
Correct it was 93 and Panic' samples 'The Badman Is Robbin' by Hijack , Out of space was 92.
