Excited to check these out! Added several to my TBR!
Thanks for posting the list. Looking forward to checking out some of 'em! 🛸
Thanks...enjoyed your insights!
excellent. these are all right up my alley. just finished 'Surface Detail' by Banks in a binge. looking for the next Southern Reach segment to be released.
the Hoffman series looks great. thanks!
i'm always so hyped for your end-of-the-year content!! 🚀🛸🌠 i read scourge between stars earlier this year per your recommendation & i liked it! super interested in the archive undying as well. i think my favorite SF book i read this year was the mountain in the sea by ray nayler, though that one came out last year.
Yay! Two more videos coming
Good mixture of stuff on that list., Generation Ship sounds like my cup of tea.
I finally got around to reading the first of the Al Clark series of books last year, that was probably my favourite read of the year.
I hope you enjoy Generation Ship if you check it out
@@TheShadesofOrange bought it for my iPad last night 😆
Rachel, I wish I was as cool as you and could find as well as read as many books as you. You always find a million more books than I even KNOW about. You are the best. Thank you! I always look forward to your videos.... with my notebook.
Aw your the best. Let's be friends
I definitely want to check some of these out
Such a cool list. I really enjoyed Scourge Between the Stars. The rest of the books mentioned are either on my tbr or will be added.
Great video Rachel. Whitney put Generation Ship on my Radar and it will definitely be one I read in the future. Thanks so much for the great sci-fi content.
Such a good one! We Read it together
Thanks for the recommendations, lots of new stuff I wasn't aware of.
Glad you found some new books
I'm getting back into reading and always looking for good sci fi recommendations! there were a few on this list i'm definitely going to check out. i look forward to your fantasy list!!
I hope you find something you like!
Nice list! I have a few of those books (haven't read them yet) and plan on buying Generation Ship and St. Elspeth.
I hope you enjoy them
The Outside Series is now on my tbr list. Thanks :)
These sound brilliant, definitely picking up number 4 🤩
Added The Scourge Between Stars to my list!!
Just got Generation Ship from the library! Can’t wait to start it! 🚀
Hope you enjoy it
AI gods. Best thing I’ve heard all year. The Archive Undying was immediately placed on a gift list. Generational Ship was already on it. Happy Holidays.
It's a great concept for sure. Also recommend the Outside if you're looking for that
My love affair with books and literature began in the 5th grade 50 years ago. Your reviews are helpful and engaging to watch. The older I become the more difficult it is to find well written books. I am looking forward to reading a few of your recommendations.Keep up the great work, and happy reading.
Oh thank you!
I never liked sci-fi until you because you keep recommending them. Now I'm going to start reading them again.
Aw glad I was able to entice you to try some
The audiobook for Saint Elspeth comes out at the end of the month, so I’m looking forward to that
Nice!
You really help me get some good reads. Thank you.
That's so nice to hear
Of books published this year, Adrian Tchaikovsky's Children of Memory takes it for me, but in fairness I've only read like 4-5 books that were published this year. Pushing it back a little bit, The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler was published at the end of last year and is probably really close, if not my favorite read of the year (there are a few other contenders but they're somewhat older)
Love reading your favourites. Mountain was a favourite last year for me
i was really disappointed in how he finished that one up.
This is the third or fourth best SF of the year list I've seen and I'm beginning to think I was reading in some kind of an alternate universe this year, hardly any of my favorite books are showing up on other people's lists. I did like Generation Ship, I've read the first books in the Essa Hansen and Ada Hoffman series and will be finishing those. And I think you've convinced me to check out Saint Elspeth. Thanks for all the good videos this year, and keep on reading.
I feel the same when I watch other videos. Apparently we all read totally different books
I'm a big SF fan and am currently looking for booktubers who have similar tastes and make interesting recommendations. Thanks for the video!
Hope I fit the bill!
Generation Ship has been on my list since the last time you mentioned it.
I’m going to go back and re-read the Outside and finish out the series. I didn’t care for it at first but I cannot stop thinking about it.
I wasn't sure about The Outside the first time I read it and now it's one if my favourite series
Totally agree you on Jinn-Bot. Easily one of my best books of the year. I've been following Basu for a while and this is my favorite of his so far.
I was more lukewarm on Archive Undying. I appreciate what the author was doing, but something just didn't click for me. I saw a review that described it as messy and I kinda agree with that. Sometimes that works for me, sometimes it doesn't.
Yeah I really enjoyed Undying but I actually don't disagree about the messiness. My personal enjoyment earned it a spot but I can see it's flaws
AI gods. Best thing I’ve heard all year. The Archive Undying was immediately placed on a gift list. Generational Ship was already on it. Happy Holidays. 🤖
Hope you enjoy it
Five more gone on my list! Thanks :)
Great list!!👍👍👍 Several of these are already on my tbr📚, others are going on it!! Rachel, did you see that james sa corey is putting out a new book series next year? 🤖🤖🚀
Yes! I'm so stoked for it
@@TheShadesofOrangeMe, too!!!
Seems like most of these have that " fresh" quality like " Ymir" which I greatly enjoyed
JB Shantiport, Empyrean & The Archive Undying caught my attention the most . ( Rubicon , Generation Ship, Outside ( first by Hoffman ) already on TBR )
Thanks again , Rachel
Yes you'll notice that most of my favourite were just sci fi that broke the mould
thank you
I really enjoyed The Day of the Triffids and They: a Sequence of Unease this year!
Great list, and I've read none of them 😅 I may pick up *The Deluge* and *Generation Ship* , they both sound great!
I hope you enjoy them
Ok you got me ! Sci-fi wise I put Generation Ship, Archive Undying and Saint Elspeth on hold ! Went with 2 of your Trilogies The Infinite & Ethera Grave so being reading all 6 ! Thanks for your love of Sci-fi ! My library is extensive ! ( Fantasy , Sci fi , Assassins as GoodGuys ,) Just Read a Book expands one’s imagination and I hope expands one’s outlook on life ). 🎉 Love is written on the pages so let it transcend you into a greater being ). Every moment reading or living life will teach you something !
Hope you enjoy these!
The Archive Undying is on my TBR from I think sommer 2023 because I love books with AIs so much. The Generation Ship is also to be read. But I am now reading The Machine.
Just a fair warning that these AI gods act more like gods than AI. It's less of a technically focused sci fi
[space emoji]. Because I couldn’t be bothered to use an actual emoji. I’m an old fossil I guess. But I do enjoy your taste in books, I’ve been adding to my TBR, thanks for that! Keep these vids coming !
An actual comment is always appreciated over an emoticon.
👽 "We mean you no harm."
I enjoy your channel quite a bit, Rachel.
I have a question:
How many books per month do you read and what would be your rough estimate (or exact number, if available) of how many books you have read in your life?
I read around 30 books a month (but some of that is manga/graphic novels). Goodreads says I've read 2300 books
@@TheShadesofOrange🤯
I also was disappointed by Dead Silence and really enjoyed The Scourage Between Stars. A real space horror. 😊
Yeah Scourge was much better
The Deluge is THE book to read this coming year if you care about the Environment Crisis. This book is showing the future of our world. Dark and unlikeable characters and definitely not the most uplifting story.
Yeah it wasn't the happiest read but I was entranced
Added quite a few to my list from this one. You should check out The Ferryman by Justin Cronin. It might be similar-ish to one you mentioned on this list
I kept putting Ferryman down but perhaps I have to try it again
@@TheShadesofOrange it has a surprise ending that helps it make sense
After reading The Deluge, I had to read Chicken Soup For The Soul
Ok, I’ve declared that I hate sci-horror BECAUSE of the exact things you are saying but I’ve seen soooo many people loving The Scourge Between Stars I’m wanting to give this a shot actually
Yeah lots of poor marketing
I've heard The Deluge described as the best horror novel of the year too
Distraction by Bruce Sterling is kind of brilliant
The Jinn-Bost of Shantiport and In the Lives of Puppets are my 2023 🙌🏼
Do you like Neal Asher? I might jump into Agent Carmac book 4 Polity Agent.
No I haven't read him yet
RUBICON sounds interesting and fits well with my goal to read more female authors in 2024!✨
Oh nice!
Considering a lot of the books on this channel are written by women, would be interesting to see a top10/20 whatever books written by men that u like
My earlier video I did last year is basically that... ruclips.net/video/p0FjoEW2flE/видео.html
Your commenting is surprising because my channel is frequently criticized for reading too many men. It's funny how everyone has a different opinion how many women is "a lot"
🚀📚 Do you have plans to read Starter Villain by John Scalzi? I just finished it and can not gush enough.
No I often struggle with funny sci fi and that one looks ridiculous
@@TheShadesofOrange delightfully so, looking forward to your next video.
I'm late to the party, and want to buy and read The Jinn-bot of Shantiport to get me out of my reading slump. Anyone know why it's showing on pre-order for Dec 10th of *2024* on Amazon? 🤔
Paper that's the paperback edition?
🚀 👩🚀 🚀 all these books sound fantastic.
Bro where is Light Bringer by Pierce Brown
Still need to read the series.. shame I know!
🚀
🚀🚀🚀
❤
🥳
👍🏾
I must admit, i wasn't a fan of the scourge between the stars as a horror it just came across as bit meh.
🚀🎉

Hello there hey there hey

Hello,
We are a group of international students pursuing an MSc in Strategic Marketing with a focus on brand leadership. Presently, we are engaged in a project aimed at enhancing the marketing efforts for the book titled "The God's Particle" by Liam Stirling. We are keen on exploring potential collaboration or seeking guidance from you regarding this matter.
Could we arrange a discussion to delve deeper into this purpose and explore possible avenues for collaboration or assistance from your end?
Looking forward to your response.
Looking through my 2023 reads, the only thing that was published in 2023 was “Leviathan Falls” (in paperback). Two much older favourites that I read this year were “Fluency” (Jennifer Foehner Wells) and “Slow Bullets” (Alastair Reynolds), and a somewhat more recent one was “The Luminous Dead” (Caitlin Starling). I am so disappointed at my 2023 new release SciFi reading now you make me aware of it 🫤
I wasn't the biggest blockbuster year for the genre but I'm glad I found some gems

Why are most of the sci fi books published in the last 10 years almost exclusively follow a female protagonist?! It's annoying.
