It is an amazingly beautiful and haunting song which brings me to tears whenever I hear it.

This song inspired me to order and to read The Brightest Day; The Darkest Night by Brendan Graham. This song is written by him for his character, Ellen. Oddly, the novel makes no mention of Ellen having lost a child to death before coming to America in 1847 or soon thereafter. It does mention her first husband being buried at that graveyard by name. It also references, from flashback memories, the great famine of that decade. Can anyone explain this for me?
By the way, I most highly recommend reading the novel. A warning though: it is very sad. I tried many times to relieve my empathic feelings by telling myself that it is just a novel and that none of these people were real. Then my knowledge of history would respond by reminding me that all of those horrible things really did happen to real people in Mr. Lincoln's war and earlier in the "Potato Famine."

Good to have some background to this sad song.
