You can just Read the code on the axel to know if you have a locker. Open diff: 1031 on 740 and 940.
Locker diff: 1041 on 740 and 940.
Some 1031 can have LSD diff but is really reare.
240 has the 1030 axel with smaller "crownwheel" (Google translation from Swedish.)
Every axel har diffrent Gear ratio to. 3,15 3,31 3,54 3,73 3,91 on the 1031 axel for exempel.
You can buy aussielocker diffs and put in 1031 axels. Or a torsen/ Detroit locker.

What is it like dailying a welded open diff? Gotta do it to my car
it sucks, eats your tires, puts extreme load on bearings and if it's a 7/9-series it will ruin the entire car cus the back bear arms are going through the double floor in a threaded hole, so when you "just swap the axle" it wont fit.
also the entire car can get bent... not worth it, i just swapped an axle on my 240, it includes new break wireing and so on... not worth it.
Does it unlock at all or does it stay locked ?
When you do the locker mod, it makes a it a locker at all speeds, but it doesn't turn it into a welded diff right? I mean, you don't get the parking speeds wheel skipping and such? just a question.
I've seen another video in which they take the whole diff apart, and then shave a part of the counterweight, that way you can up the speed it locks.
Abel Bermúdez No it won't chirp around in parking lots because it still functions as an open diff until one wheel starts to spin faster than the other. The BEST way to mod it is how he did. Taking it apart and shaving is a huge waste of time as it will still 'open up' at x amount of speed.

1030 is non turbo rear. 1031 is turbo rear. 1041 is locker
1030 is only on early 740´s. later model 740 and all 940 have 1031/1041

Bob Sagit no they're not they're inherently weaker and will explode. They lock harshly and are much more prone to failure.
They're nice for a daily though since they're open until locked.
Still not as predictable as a welded diff unfortunately.
