Putting this here: Calill getting Largo's transfer bonuses is a lie. People have tested it and proved it wrong. I'm sorry it's in the video, but I only found about about that years after making this.
It's one of those rumors that everybody spreads and nobody disproves. I mean, as much as I love Largo, who really gets him to Level 20 in a transfer run?
I need cheats like the debug menu for radiant dawn too boring to play it the normal way I started with Lord Ike ragnell and can use gagaruant was fun Hope someone has the debug menu for RD so we can all enjot
It's just a shame it's got wrong info about Calill and Largo in it and RUclips got rid of annotations. But as long as you read the pinned comment you should be fine.
If you only knew the English version, you wouldn't know this existed. This is the only game in the series to do this too, unless you count the Jp version of Awakening having an alternate script for the mute Avatar option.
These are actually my favorite videos of yours. I like your playthroughs don't get me wrong. But you're very good at giving out information without it getting boring
That why I like this channel, you bring up content that a lot of people don't even realize is there. I recently finished your sacred stones playthrough and I learned some new things about that game, despite me playing it over and over for a few years. I recently finished 2 runs of rd, a first time playthrough then a run on hard mode just so I could see the extra stuff. I can't wait to see all the other stuff I missed.
Glad you got something out of those videos. Sacred Stones isn't my favourite FE but it's one I feel is a bit underrated and has a lot of things that get overlooked. (Like how a lot of characters' bases and growths got tweaked in the localization) Oh boy, you played Hard. I feel sorry for you.
Oh boy, the Black Knight thing. Definitely a case where a localization re-write was a really good thing. If I ever meet Robert Clotworthy at a convention, I'm getting him to read the Japanese script of that scene.
I’ve been thinking about the way Sothe’s transfers work and I realized something. This probably won’t happen but it theoretically could. If Sothe gets to level 20 in PoR and gets 19 blank level-ups part 1 of RD will be super difficult because he will have his PoR bases.
I love the idea of transfer bonuses from Path of Radiance to Radiant Dawn. They're a nice reward for reaching max level of the highest class, and the boosts definitely help in Radiant Dawn, though they're not necessary in most cases. My Jill's Speed transfer has allowed her to double enemies sooner than otherwise, which lets her snowball into an amazing combat unit. A shame that Sothe could be potentially screwed over. I agree that locking story content out of Radiant Dawn's Japanese Normal Mode can be a bit of a 'take that, you scrub' to players who aren't so good at Fire Emblem. I hate it when games lock content out of lower difficulties or poke fun at players for picking the easiest mode possible, regardless of whether the latter is just a joke or not. A shame that what we got is just a middle ground between the Normal script and the Hard script, not a localisation of the full Hard script. I compared both versions of the final conversation between Elincia and Ludveck at the end of Part 2, and it certainly has more of an impact in the Hard script than the Normal script. I love Elincia's lines in the Hard script because they show how much stronger she's become as a queen.
Transfer bonuses are pretty fun, but they do screw over the newcomers a lot. The Hard script version of Part 2's ending scene is fantastic, I agree. It's also where the part name, "Of Countries and Kings", comes from. I also like how Elincia asks the obvious question: "If you want to rule so badly, why didn't you just have me assassinated?" and that Ludveck as a response for that.
Really cool video, I've played Radiant Dawn twice and I didn't knew about the extended script. A few days ago I ended Path of Radiance once again and I just started RD so I'm really looking foward watching your playthrough, keep up the amazing work
I'm looking forward to getting to RD too. I THINK I've got my recording setup sorted, and I've started on the bios. RD is one of my favourites in the series so I'm really looking forward to playing it.
So that's why I enjoyed a lot RD, because I did know more and less about PoR but I didn't played it by the time I played RD, but yes after reading the extend script I probably be kinda lost without playing PoR but at the same time it feels even more special
Can't wait for your radiant dawn playthrough. I really wished the radiance games were on virtual console, cmon we all waiting on it on switch maybe during three houses. It stupid that the world building and character relationship being into hard mode/lunatic mode
Nice to see inter game interactivity like this and how it allows you for using a character in Path of Radiance to allow their experience in combat to improve them in Radiant Dawn is pretty cool and hopefully Fire Emblem does something like it again some day. Although most of the Dawn Brigade lacking the ability to have Transfer Bonuses is a bit of a disadvantage for them it probably wouldn’t help a character like Fiona much at all. Isn’t their another case in Radiant Dawn of a character gaining Transfer Bonuses from another character as Danved obviously isn’t Devdan despite people constantly telling me that they look alike. (Sarcasm Mode deactivated) Well Radiant Dawn despite essentially having the Localisation writers only translating 1 and a half scripts. But the other people involved in it actually did quite well considering they added in the ability to gain a level once at level 20 and promote using that or the fact that they programmed in 3 exclusive weapons with unique models is something I can applaud as most localisations don’t add gameplay benefits. Personally I would see a loss of dialogue and story content as a much worse crime than not being entirely faithful to the original text as Localisers are translating to sell a product to the public and hence might have to change content that might not fly overseas or maybe they change stuff to make so that it will appeal more to a foreign market. It is not a Fan Sub which is meant to allow pre existing fans to experience something that hasn’t been translated and to keep the experience the same they will the dialogue and story as close to the original as possible. At least the changes to the script which happens with most game localisations was what got people so uppity about Fates’s localisation which people are free to correct me on if I happen to be wrong. But assuming that is the case as far as i can tell Fates localisation is actually fairly accurate for the most part with just a few small changes that don’t affect the game in the grand scheme of things like how certain pieces of dialogue play out. While Awakening which was from I’ve heard was actually even worse than Fates as it amongst things changed both Gregor and Henry from the ground up which from the perspective of somebody who wants the Localisation to be as close to the original as possible such a character overhaul would be a complete no no with the worst that Fates did in that regard from what I’ve seen was emphasise Effie’s toughness. It honestly surprises me how the reception towards the Localisation of two games in the same series from its fan base compare when one is criticised for something the other does a lot more but isn’t lambasted as much for it. I am fully aware that the people who praise Awakening and the people who decry Fates when it comes to Localisation are very likely separate people but it does seem weird to have the popular opinion take a 180 between the two for the exact same thing. Fates localisation shouldn’t not be criticised, hell i feel that Awakening has better localised dialogue compared to Fates but I seems like people were focusing on the wrong issues.
Yeah, even with transfers Fiona wouldn't be that good. Now that I think about it, Meg should've got Brom's transfers. Yes, there's that, but I'm saving that joke until he appears. There's a lot of nice gameplay additions, not to mention 3 exclusive weapons. "Personally I would see a loss of dialogue and story content as a much worse crime than not being entirely faithful to the original text". I feel the same way. We basically lost most of the character interactions and world building in the localization and instead got the "For Dummies" version of the script. There's a lot of annoying things in Awakening's localization, but at least, for example, Chrom and Lissa still have their banter during the early chapters. A "reduced script" would've cut that out. I think Awakening's dialogue is better-written, but it's got more drastic changes. I'm okay with people not liking some of Fates' character re-writes, but what bugs me is when those same people praise Awakening for DOING THE EXACT SAME THING. I chalk this up to not many people following Awakening in Japanese while Fates had a fan translation before the official English release. Also, Awakening drew a lot of anime fans into the series, who are more used to fully literal translations.
This will be something interesting for me, I've never actually experienced the writing of radiant Dawn. also me every other people's opinion of the story so it'll be interesting for me to see how it all unfolds and why people seem to hate the story so much. All in all, I can't wait to see your playthrough.
I'm going to be very interested on what the "extended script" is. It'll actually feel like a new experience when you go over what was left out. Edit: I find it cool that there is a Wii game that utilizes the GameCube memory card slots via transfer bonuses. I wonder if there are any other Wii games that use this aspect as well.
There's not a lot that was left out. The Ameilleon blog lists a few things from Part 3, though beware of spoilers in the main post. RD is the only game I can currently think of that does that.
Oh boy, I almost forgot about the extended script thing. This and the lack of option to choose the japanese voice acting are my biggest gripe with Radiant Dawn. At least they fixed some of the gameplay issues. If I were to make a remake of Radiant Dawn, I would implement the extended script (though keep in the BK armor rewrite), make the japanese voice acting with subtitles an option and make the BEXP required for a full level up of tier 1 units drastically lower (to incentivize spending it on the Tier 1 members of the Dawn Brigade).
I didn’t even know that there was an “extended script” for radiant dawn. I wonder if it answers a lot of questions I have about the games plot or even fixes any issue I had with it.
I don't think it "fixes" anything major, but it does flesh-out the characters a lot more. Basically the Normal script stripped out everything that wasn't 100% essential to the story, so we lost a lot of fun interactions between the Greil Mercenaries and others. There's also a bit of extra dialogue in the Endgame flashbacks, particularly the E-4 one.
Transfer bonuses, because the Dawn Brigade wasn't worse than the returnees enough already! I can confirm that unpromoted class level does not affect transfer bonuses, my 10/20 Mist got magic transfers.
BigKlingy Dolphin can do it easily, so there's that. Overall, transfers don't matter much aside from a few units, but it's basically just kicking the DB while they're down.
There's a certain character I'm planning on using in RD who I'm sure is going to make you very mad. But having played Hard, I can see why he's not good there.
BigKlingy I'm guessing Edward right? It's your playthrough man, use who you want, I'm not gonna get mad if someone uses a unit I don't like. I will say I'm not a fan of Edward though. He's invaluable in early Part 1 chapters, but Zihark is pretty much him but better. Better bases, better element affinity, better base skill, and way less investment cost, freeing up more exp for Jill and whatever other unit(s) you want to use. Like, he's not bad, but I see no reason to use him over Zihark in pure gameplay terms. But if you like him, go for it dude.
It's not often you see comments like this, thanks. I agree with your reasons for liking Zihark better. I just personally find Edward a lot more fun, probably BECAUSE of the investment cost. It feels more satisfying to me to see him grow into a total monster, than to take someone who's already a monster. And yeah, of all the DBs who aren't Nolan or Jill, he's pretty good.
I'd also hope they come in one deal (if they're only HD remakes and not complete overhauls Echoes-style). And you can start from either, but if you choose PoR, you can instantly transfer the data and begin a RD save after finishing the Epilogue.
I avoid reading the "real" script because I didn't want to be spoiled the first time playing the game. I forgotten to read it after I was done and I was critiquing the game solely on the "reduced" script. If you going to be discussing the extended script while playing I can finally see this game in a new light. BTW you excited for tommorow. It's weird not having Critical role today. I don't remember it ever being on a different day.
Serenes Forest doesn't have a LOT of the extended script, but what little it has I'll be able to mention. There's nothing really major changed, it's just the extended script has a lot more character moments. I've got family stuff on today and tomorrow, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to watch live this time.
Oh. I did not know about that whole Easy mode crash. I just thought it was something wrong with my copy since it also crashes when Jill enters a battle.
I knew about transfer bonus convos and NG+ bonus stuff as well, but the extended script is news to me. Makes me kinda wish someone would do a translation patch of the JP version, even though such a thing isn't nessecary.
Seems a lot of people don't know about it, which doesn't surprise me but is still sad. The thing that makes that hard is the extended script isn't always just extra lines: sometimes it adds dialogue in the middle of a previously-existing line.
So idk if you'll see this or not but wanted to ask I'm sure it's a lot of work but have you thought of doing a video of all the characters by chapter for their bios? I'm planning to do another run here since I haven't played the game in a few years and I'm almost done with path of radiance and I would love to use advice from some of your bios like the best time for bonus experience but it's hard to look through all the videos for the bios. I'm currently watching anyway but odds are by the time I get far enough for bonus experience I'll be done with all the videos lol
@@BigKlingy sweet. Radiant dawn especially with it's length would be nice to have access to. Path of Radiance isn't as long or as complicated with stuff like bonus experience and stuff
Hope you can read Japanese, then. There are a few translations of the Extended Script out there but no-where I've found has the entire script. Serenes Forest has the most significant parts but misses most of Part 3.
I got both Calill and Largo to level 20 promoted in PoR but she only got transfers from herself not Largo. Calill capped magic, speed, and resistance which she transferred, and Largo capped HP, strength, skill, and speed which none of was transferred with the exception of speed which technically wasn’t even from him since Calill already had it capped. Did I do something wrong?
No, the Largo thing is a myth. Someone showed definitive proof of it. So that's annoying, but I don't want to take this video down. I might do a pinned comment.
@@BigKlingy Aw that’s a shame. Would’ve been nice to see a crazy powered up Calill. This vid’s still extremely informative tho and I really appreciate the response. Thank you!
3:39 Your probably not reading this but apparently this is a massive misconception that’s become a supposed “fact”. Apparently RD hackers have found no evidence to suggest Largo transfers anything to RD it’s just a myth that’s been widespread.
@@BigKlingy www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/fireemblem/comments/hl85wt/tellius_transfers_list_the_ones_that_are_actually/ www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/fireemblem/comments/buuusc/i_actually_tested_how_largo_transfers_work/ I saw these 2 Reddit post that seem to debunk the myth.
Honestly, what with basing the script on the Normal mode one, dumb little errors, and the save transfer screw-up, it really seems like RD's localization was rushed out/given minimal resources.
The PAL version had to correct a lot of typos and bugs, I'll be talking about those as I go through. I... think this is the first time I'm uploading a game that had major PAL version changes, so this should be interesting. I originally thought the localizers didn't know about the extended script, but the fact that 1-P's opening dialogue takes a few cues from it implies maybe they did. More evidence of rushing is the ton of inconsistencies with PoR (Kyza vs Kysha, Deghinsea vs Dheginsea, Riven Bridge vs Oribes Bridge, Guiding Tower vs Tower of Guidance).
Nolan's new weapon + Beastfoe = 3-6 isn't nearly as bad as I feared it would be. I'm not sure how much harder it would be without it. I'm also wondering what'll happen if the DB trio get into Heroes, as their three PRFs didn't exist in Japanese, so they might not end up getting them and just get generic brave or slaying weapons, which would likely confuse westerners.
BigKlingy On English Normal at least, beastfoe Jill can one round tigers with a forged steel axe so there's that. Honestly, 3-6 is just about abusing beastfoe and trying to deal with swamp terrain.
Beastfoe is just great in general... and it's a guide dang it to find. I wonder how players handled 3-6 if they never found it? The swamp terrain. A.k.a "We heard you liked Fiona sucking, so we made her suck more."
Question on the weapon rank bonus. Would the weapon rank transfer still happen onto weapons that character can't use when they come back in radiant dawn? Specifically talking about Illyana since she starts as a thunder mage without access to the other two anima magics. If she ended with A rank on wind and fire would those weapon rank bonuses still exist and go to her weapon rank when she promotes into thunder sage?
Huh. I thought when you were talking about the extended script you were speaking about the NG+ bonuses, like... well, certain characters and plot points and so forth.
I seem to remember existing Bond supports taking precedence. I think the 5% bond only carries over if they have no bond by default in RD. E.g a transferred Ike/Soren A Support does nothing here because they already have a Bond Support by default in RD.
It's an annoying bug but it makes sense why it happened: Easy didn't exist originally so the code of Radiant Dawn wasn't designed to handle it. Later US copies fixed it apparently, and the PAL version has it always fixed.
Difficulty has no effect on file transfer. You can choose whatever RD difficulty you want. You just need to have no PoR Easy save files on your memory card for the transfer to work.
Him revealing the Black Knight's identity to Ike. This used to be one of the most hated story moments in the series, if you can believe that. In the Extended Script, there's much more foreshadowing to Ranulf figuring it out.
@@SSlash Only in early copies of the American version. Unfortunately if you've got one of those there's nothing much you can do. You used to be able to send your disc in to Nintendo to get that bug patched, but obviously not anymore. If you're playing on an emulator, I'm sure there's a patch to fix the bug.
@@BigKlingy oh I didn't know it was just an early version issue, thought it was just something they messed up entirely and didn't follow up on lol but yeah, I'm sure as long as the download isn't like, the day 1 unpatched version then that's not present when emulating, you probably did mention that in the video tho so my bad, but thanks for clarifying regardless!
I think I mentioned this at some point, but you'll know if you've got a fixed version if Muarim's glossary description isn't a copy of Mist's. The issue exists because Easy Mode was added to the localizaed version of PoR, so Radiant Dawn was never designed to handle it. I think later copies fix it by treating Easy saves as Maniac saves.
*QUESTION FOR KLINGY THAT INCLUDES SPOILERS FOR RADIANT DAWN, SCROLL AT YOUR OWN RISK* . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Hey klingy in *that* moment in RD will you be choosing the option that only appears in subsequent playthoughs?

So if we get a HD version of both games for the switch in the future lets hope for the Extended Script!
I really don't know if they'd do that. But we'll see.
Yeah well it would be nice if they did :s
Well I'll promise not to spoil it for you.
Oh my god thank you so much ive been having so many difficulties and the is is why thank you
So idk if you'll see this or not but wanted to ask I'm sure it's a lot of work but have you thought of doing a video of all the characters by chapter for their bios? I'm planning to do another run here since I haven't played the game in a few years and I'm almost done with path of radiance and I would love to use advice from some of your bios like the best time for bonus experience but it's hard to look through all the videos for the bios. I'm currently watching anyway but odds are by the time I get far enough for bonus experience I'll be done with all the videos lol
I will probably make a compilation of all the bios at some point in the next two months. It's definitely something I'm planning on.
@@BigKlingy sweet. Radiant dawn especially with it's length would be nice to have access to. Path of Radiance isn't as long or as complicated with stuff like bonus experience and stuff
It kinda sucks that they have to be lvl 20
Wow if I didn't watch this video I wouldn't know that NA version was based on a simplified script. Time to play JP version.
Hope you can read Japanese, then. There are a few translations of the Extended Script out there but no-where I've found has the entire script. Serenes Forest has the most significant parts but misses most of Part 3.
@@BigKlingy I can, I already started playing few months ago but didn't have enough motivation to move forward.
I've heard a lot of reports of this being a myth. I'd like to see that hacker evidence.

I saw these 2 Reddit post that seem to debunk the myth.
@BigKlingy what happens if you have multiple epilogue files of PoR on the memory card? Do you choose or is there some priority to them?
You choose.
@@BigKlingy Thanks :-)
Hey, they made the DB less crap by giving them PRFs and made the Black Knight explanation less dumb, I'll take it.
I'm actually not sure on that, it'd need to be tested. I'd assume it doesn't work, but maybe it does?
now I hope we can get a fully translated version of the japanese version of RD
Huh. I thought when you were talking about the extended script you were speaking about the NG+ bonuses, like... well, certain characters and plot points and so forth.
I'll be showing those, but "Extended Script" means something else.
I wonder if someone will ever make a patch with the extended script.
uh do bond support bonus from transfers stack on top of RD's already existing ones?
I seem to remember existing Bond supports taking precedence. I think the 5% bond only carries over if they have no bond by default in RD. E.g a transferred Ike/Soren A Support does nothing here because they already have a Bond Support by default in RD.
dude i appreciate this video so much. i was wondering why i couldn't transfer my data and you explained it perfectly
It's an annoying bug but it makes sense why it happened: Easy didn't exist originally so the code of Radiant Dawn wasn't designed to handle it. Later US copies fixed it apparently, and the PAL version has it always fixed.
BigKlingy if I complete a PoR normal run will it transfer to an easy RD run?
Difficulty has no effect on file transfer. You can choose whatever RD difficulty you want.
You just need to have no PoR Easy save files on your memory card for the transfer to work.
@@BigKlingy sick, thanks!
What was the controversial Ranulf moment in at the beginning of 4 prologue? I beat the game like 5 times I cant remember what thats referencing.
Him revealing the Black Knight's identity to Ike. This used to be one of the most hated story moments in the series, if you can believe that. In the Extended Script, there's much more foreshadowing to Ranulf figuring it out.
Wait! Only Lv 20 units transfer stats?sigh...well, looks like I'm playing POR again..
Easy Mode with its increased exp is good for that.
@@BigKlingy but doesnt easy mode transfer like, not even work?
Are there any rom hacks if RD that give it the extended script?
I don't know if all of it has even been translated.
I was thinking of something like this too, but RD romhacking is very niché compared to GBAFE romhacking. Have you found anything?
Question: If in Path of Radiance, for example, both Largo and Callil cap their Defense, will Callil get +4 defense?
Callil can only get one boost to each stat. So even if both her and Largo cap the stat in PoR, she still gets +2.
@@BigKlingy I'd say that's reasonable. They specialized in different fields so only common stats are evidence of the cancelling each other out.
*looks at phone*
*sigh* wonder if i can do it on emulator.....
From what I hear, Dolphin can do it.
I didn't know that about the script that kinda pisses me off
How does Radiant Dawn scan for this? (Serious question).

Lmao I got a copy of radiant dawn copy of Amazon this year and i have the copy where i can't transfer easy files not that it matters because im playing on wii u and don't have gamecube
Nintendo has always had issues with localizing Fire Emblem.
Me who has a Wii which doesn't have a GameCube memory card slot. >:(
