An interesting attempt to assess true boat speed/drag. So many variables that it is difficult to truly assess the differences especially if they are relatively small.
Absolutely correct, which is why we are not "publishing" results definitely saying that this boat is as fast as that boat and are instead doing this more as just another data point that will be used for further development.
Great video! Do you guys have graphs of heart rate to speed for each of the boats? That sort of data would really indicate the energy required to get the boat to certain speeds.
there's some rumination of shortening the front iako on the volare to improve the performance of the ama when surfing. is there going to be any official info on this or is it going to be an off-cuff modification?
We will be implementing the changes from the factory. Volare delivered later this year will have the iako change from the factory. Long story short. Rig Front iako pin in lower position, drill new pin hole in upper position, move spring pin to new location Cut off excess iako. And yes I think we will be doing a video about it, just not sure on timeline.
Johnny has gone through quite a few different V1 designs and prototypes, but nothing groundbreaking or worth putting into production. They have been a great design study, learning process and we have a lot of fun testing. V1s are so different because it's not just speed and surf-ability but also how well it tracks in the water and how well it tracks on a wave etc. Even though it may be fast/low drag, if a paddler is spending all their time steering, it will mean that they are not putting all their motive force into going forward. Thanks for watching

So cool to see the science and to see how you work through the data.

fascinating. Are you guys planning on releasing a rudderless Kahele V1?

GOOG JOB!
how convenient...volare wins wtf
