Pablo Larrain, the director mentioned in an interview with Stewart that they would share research material constantly between each other. Stewart noticed and noted down a lot of Diana's mannerisms. Stewart did her research. During her first filming session on set, she tried to base her performance from the research but remarked that she over did it so did Pablo. Kristen Stewart's performance in Spencer is melodramatic for the script and intensely psychological with some creative liberties put in there. I literally cried and felt sad. I noticed her temper triggered by the bulimia. Frankly, the performance is being criticized harshly. Watch this video titled "Spencer - A look at Kristen Stewart's voice and depiction in the movie TRIGGER WARNING SEE DETAILS", the video essayist gives a fair shake of the common thread criticism.
Her peers in the Screen Actors Guild obviously disagree with you. Maybe they weren't impressed with her whipser-mubmble delivery and her one expression thru the whole film.

If they didn't think she was good enough for SAG, they're not going to suddenly change their mind for the Oscars. But the actors who are in SAG are also the ones who do the nominating for best actress at the Oscars. So if 4,000 members voted for the SAG nominations, out of that, a thousand actors are the same ones who are members of the Academy. The entire Academy does not do the nominating for the actors. Only the actor's branch. After the nominating, then the entire Academy gets to vote for the winner. But if the actors didn't nominate her when they had the chance at SAG, they aren't suddenly going to nominate her for an Oscar. They've never liked her and she wasn't impressive in Spencer. The critics don't get to nominate, and the only people they impress are each other.
I'm not surprised at all that she is the most awarded actress of 2021, she really did a spectacular job as Diana Spencer, one of the rare cases where we don't get to see the actress, only the character appears. Brava, Kristen!
Only from the critics, not the audiences and she didn't win a single competitive award at any festival, and the film went to about 2 dozen festivals. It never won a single audience award, in fact, at Telluride, the audience ranked it 11th out of all the films they saw. It was not an audience favorite outside of the festivals either. Neon had to yank it out of theaters and put it on VOS after only 3 weeks because no one was going to see it.

She won Best Actress by 20 Critics Group across the US beating any actress that's competing with her, enough said. She deserves every praise she gets

It will also explain what "hype" is all about (as in "hyper-ventilating"...)
I'm British and I went to the film expecting her to be dire but I was curious to see her anyway. I was blown away. She totally becomes Diana. Even Diana's bodyguard said her performance is the closest he's seen to the real Diana. The accent was a little too breathy but apart from that, she gave an Oscar worthy performance.
Never been a fan of hers but she 100% deserves an Oscar for this movie. I cannot believe Gaga (whom I normally love) is being so hyped up for the mediocre House of Gucci and Kristen is starting to get overlooked for award noms. She WAS Diana.

My mom and I went to see Spencer and on the way out, the movie theater employees asked us what we thought of it. We told them that we thought it was amazing and they were happy. They said that people had constantly been walking out and said it was "boring." We were shocked. 😂 Kristen was spectacular. 👍🏻
It’s probably the script & the story itself. Kristen might have nailed the looks & some of Diana’s mannerisms but other than that, it didn’t feel something like Princess Diana would actually be.. Yes, it’s not a documentary of her life, and most probably a fictional story overall, but I felt like some of the scenes & dialogues were a disrespect not only to the Royal Family but to Diana herself..

I really appreciate her acknowledging the whole Hollywood nepotism thing. I know lots of people have strong feelings about it, but I really appreciate it when an actress acknowledges that it is a definitely thing and then just works hard in the roles she gets.

I really love the movie. It's like reality, but like a dream, and I love how amazing Kristen's transformation was. I didn't believe she could do it, but she did. But however familiar I am with the general British accent, a native Brit should be able to tell if Kristen's accent was close to Diana's accent. So I'd like to know from Brits on this comment section how did she do?

The film is directed by Pablo Larrain. He has a very distinct way of doing his biopics. You need to watch "Jackie" with Natalie Portman. It is an incredible film with great performances, visuals, costume design, and score.

It was a very bad cringe worthy movie and I found the crown plus the others so much better. I found this piece of her life to be too dark to watch… it was boring and very shallow in content. To me poorly written. The scenery was horrid, dark and dry… I watch all the Diana movies over and over… I won’t be watching this one again. Just poorly done, in my taste. Sorry to the writers. The soldier part Christmas eve was beyond annoying.

Difficult and interesting woman, great and not great, and world needs to move on. Think Marie Curie, Golda Meir, Indira Gandhi, Abigail Adams, Florence Nightingale, we need more movies about these and other real models of achievement.
Thank goodness she's humble about "trying" to play the iconic Diana. Nobody can truly portray her except herself. Also humility and self-deprecation are a major part of being British, hard to find those qualities in Americans. So she's a good pick all things considering. Wish she was taller like Princess Di. PS. I haven't watched the movie but I'm guessing they trashed the royals in it. Diana was a victim of a cheating husband, not the royals.

Not particularly impressed with the interview either; I admire the humility but not particular the Hollywood 'oh yeah, sure' vocabulary. She's quite pretty here though.
She doesn’t have the charisma, the speech pattern, or the mannerisms of Diana. Keira Knightly is more like Diana without trying to be.
Diana suffered from bulima.That is pretty grafically shown in the movie.
She acted like Diana well. But thats what it is..it looks like acting. You feel the acting, the put on and not the 'being' of Diana.
She is a very good actress. I have seen her in many movies that have really impressed me. But not here. She says herself, it was their version of Diana.
Having said that, I will always be a major fan looking forward to her work.

Difficult and interesting woman, great and not great, and world needs to move on. Think Marie Curie, Golda Meir, Indira Gandhi, Abigail Adams, Florence Nightingale, we need more movies about these and other real models of achievement.

Thank goodness she's humble about "trying" to play the iconic Diana. Nobody can truly portray her except herself. Also humility and self-deprecation are a major part of being British, hard to find those qualities in Americans. So she's a good pick all things considering. Wish she was taller like Princess Di. PS. I haven't watched the movie but I'm guessing they trashed the royals in it. Diana was a victim of a cheating husband, not the royals.
