You'll see a BIG difference with a cone compensator because there are actual chambers and their diameter is tighter to the round and strips a lot more gasses. In fact on the cone compensator, the exit hole will appear nearly the same size as your barrel muzzle.
Cool factor definitely. barrel bushing comps don't help anything unfortunately. The hole is actually larger than the barrel itself so its not bleeding any real excess gas off, just the normal of what exits the barrel. Real comps are sealed to the barrel itself, not the slide. Mostly just a looks thing and I think they look awesome.
I have two for my Springfield 1911 mil speck, the polished Predator for when i use the black grips and a matte black Punisher series which matches the gun perfectly for when i change to the wood grips. I love it looks cool a.f . Gives the pistol some flair and just looks badass in my opinion.
Those compensators work best with 185 - 200 grain bullets and medium to slow burn rate target ammo powders, such as Hercules Unique or IMR-700X. You'll also notice a reduction in muzzle flash using slower burning powders. You're right, other than looking cool, they don't seem to do all that much if using standard 230 grain ball ammo. By the way, it looks great on your Kimber.
+Icarryone Thank you sir. Unfortunately I don't reload.....yet, but that is a goal of mine to start this year. Another person that is very knowledgeable in this area said the same thing about the slower burning powder. I use factory ball ammo for now. Thank you for your input sir and I hope you don't mind me mentioning your channel in this video
+The Daily Shooter Thank you brother. I'm learning from other viewers that using ammo with slower burning powder will reduce muzzle flip. I use regular factory ball ammo, but once I start reloading, I can play around with the formula
I bought one to add to my new custom 2, you can see a definite difference on video of before and after, might not feel it but you can see it! Range day is coming up for mine! Will try both ways
Nice Jeff. But there are comps that actually do kill a lot of muzzle flip. Had a race gun built in the early 80s that was totally tha tits. Was really expensive but was working at a steel mill making a comfy living at the time any ways the comp it had was affixed to the barrel. Just wanted to let you know some do work if you wanted to look further into it.
+glockerbob There's no doubt in my mind that there are comps that actually work. This one didn't as far as I can tell. I don't know anything about comps for a pistol, I guess it wouldn't be much different than the comps for a rifle
+alonewcompany If you ever decide to get a comp, do your research. There are some out there that do work, but I'm a cheap ass and went with an inexpensive comp
If you graph a grid 1" x1" square behind pistol for point of reference you will see that the brake actually will reduce some muzzle flip (recoil). Perhaps I will purchase and run this test
There are two thing to help with the muzzle jump.. Replace the recoil spring with an 18 lb spring{ This is in the 5 in Gov model only ] . Get the full length guide rod. They make recoil buffer pads so it is not metal on metal when it cycles... One thing to remember is to replace the pad every time you clean your gun.......
@@gunnwild1 I have used for some time now and they work very well. As far as shot placement they are NO PROBLEM. I can put 14 rounds in a playing card from 20 feet....
Jonathan Davis Not a shorter spring, you need a short guide rod and a low powered recoil spring..around 11 pounds instead of the factory 15 pound spring
...slide mounted compensators are a joke...the gasses follow the bullet out the end rather than up through the ports because the hole in the end is larger than the barrel diameter rather than a little larger than the bullet diameter as in a real muzzle brake...a real compensator/muzzle brake must be mounted to the barrel...
I've also got one of those, it looks awesome, but no noticeable difference in muzzle rise
+christurbo951 I'm most likely going to put the stock parts back on, the compensator has changed to point of impact just to the left of center

I use comp.s on all my match guns. On one I even have the front sight on the comp. Very retro, very popular in the 1990s.

I actually took that comp off. It threw off the shop placement to the left. Now with the factory bushing I'm right back on the bullseye
CZ makes one that has no slots. Maybe, even though they make ones with slots, they know it's nothing more than a muzzle weight?

They do look great. Mine is sitting in a parts box, I took it off because it changed the shot placement

If you shoot as much as I do, reloading is a must. I also sincerely appreciate the shout-out buddy!
Looks super nice. Really adds something to an already awesome gun. Too bad it doesn't reduce flip a bit
+The Daily Shooter Thank you brother. I'm learning from other viewers that using ammo with slower burning powder will reduce muzzle flip. I use regular factory ball ammo, but once I start reloading, I can play around with the formula
+gunnwild1 That makes sense. Sounds like fun too
Looks really good. You can tell it's of fine quality.
+deputysheriff100 The machining is definitely high quality
I bought one to add to my new custom 2, you can see a definite difference on video of before and after, might not feel it but you can see it! Range day is coming up for mine! Will try both ways
I hope yours works better than mine. The one I have change the point of impact about 3" to the left at 7 yards
Nice addition. That's a beautiful Kimber. Mike's been wanting one of those for awhile
+SoulSurvivorX2 Thank you Cindy. I'm really happy with my Kimber and I think Mike will be completely satisfied if he ever gets one

Well yeah I knew you did about that sorry didn't mean to sound like that bud. I meant on 1911s.
Looks great! But would it be hard to conceal carry with the comp on?
I don't carry this pistol, it does add length
Looks really nice 👌
Thank you
@gunnwild1 just ordered one, after watching your video. They owe you.
Will it work on tisas 45 commander?
It should
Always wondered about these things. Nice touch!
+alonewcompany If you ever decide to get a comp, do your research. There are some out there that do work, but I'm a cheap ass and went with an inexpensive comp
Does it require the use of a full length guide rod?
Mine alreadt had a full length rod, so I'm not sure if it is required
The fit & finish is great.
+hazman440 They definitely have quality machining
Good stuff, Big J !! Cool Factor it is!!! ;-)
+BillGoudy Thank you Bill
If you graph a grid 1" x1" square behind pistol for point of reference you will see that the brake actually will reduce some muzzle flip (recoil). Perhaps I will purchase and run this test
This product also moved the shot placement to the left
Did you try it?
Nice looking comp, I've come close to getting one but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
+MyHollowpoint Try something a little different Chuck, go get yourself one
awesome sweet piece man !!!!!!
+shawn wright Thank you
how many percent did it reduce muzzle flip and recoil?
Not much, it's not worth the money

@@herrotto7787 Thanks for the information, I took the comp off soon after making this video 5 years ago. It changed the shot placement of my pistol
@@gunnwild1 I have used for some time now and they work very well. As far as shot placement they are NO PROBLEM. I can put 14 rounds in a playing card from 20 feet....
did you change your spring plug like they recommended or did you leave your stock spring plug in?
+Jonathan Davis I left the factory plug in it
+gunnwild1 awesome I just put a compensator on mine
Jonathan Davis I was told that I would need to change my recoil spring and use a short guild rod to feel a difference in recoil
+gunnwild1 I have a shorter spring plug on the way, I haven't been able to find a shorter spring yet
Jonathan Davis Not a shorter spring, you need a short guide rod and a low powered recoil spring..around 11 pounds instead of the factory 15 pound spring
Will this fit on my 1911 in 9mm ???
I can't say for sure, but if it's is mil spec, it should fit.
I just order it online for my springfield 1911 RO 9mm, after receive a e-mail response that it will fit on my 9mm !
Looks awesome bro i actually saw his video as well and im thinking about getting one for my 1911 .. Pistol looks great
+Gun Enthusiast Thank you. I guess if you use the right ammo, it does reduce muzzle flip...that's what some people are telling me
Anybody know if this will fit a GI model chambered in 9mm?
Check the fitment section of their web site: www.valkyriedynamics.com/
Looks Mighty fine =) subbed Icarryone channel
+rls303 Thank you. The Icarryone channel has some really nice pistols
very nice!!!
+eltenda fabrizio Thank you
Should have gotten the satin finish
Yeah I realized that after I bought it

I no longer have the compensator on my pistol, it changed the shot placement high and left. I agree, it is a waste of money
Doesn't do anything, but looks pretty cool. Not too expensive either.
I didn't mention it in the video, but it threw the shot placement off, the rounds were hitting to the left
That's really good to know. Thanks for the intel update.
Not a comp guy. Must have ear plugs or you will die.LOL!
+ThunderMountain Tactical This is my first experience with a comp on a pistol....I have no idea what I'm doing LOL
gunnwild1 Porting and comps look cool but are not user friendly on the ears. Even with ear plugs you can feel and hear the difference.
