Hey Steve I got my Bullseye about 3 weeks ago, followed some of your tips, and I absolutely love this grill. I don’t eat much meat but I’ve cooked fish, corn, asparagus, pork chops and some boneless beef ribs and everything came out fantastic. Had to throw the beef in the oven but that’s because I’m still learning to cook on this grill. Thanks for your periodic reviews!
Thanks for watching. Hard to go wrong with the Bullseye. Turns out some awful good eats and so easy to use too. Glad it’s working out for you. Thanks for sharing and leaving a comment. Keep on Smokin!
Gotta keep cast iron oiled and seasoned to prevent rust - water or not. I spray mine with canola oil once a month or so and never seen a bit of rust on it
Great one year review Steve. Thanks to your videos and answering my questions a few months back I bought one! Just got done with salmon and corn on the cob. Can’t beat the Bullseye for the price.
Hey Steve great videos purchased mine this year and yes what a working machine thanks for the tips! one of your followers Buzzy tarpon springs Florida!
Hey Buzzy ... Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Florida rocks and so does the Bullseye. This Bullseye hasn’t let me down yet .... now that I have the griddle, wow it really does it all.
You’re in for a treat … I think you’ll love it! It’s definitely my go to grill/smoker … have fun with it, I see a bunch of great food coming off of your cast iron grate.
I love mine, however I do keep it covered now. Im not sure how, but i did get moisture one time and had to pull auger to clean out. It sits right next to my Bull which has never been covered.
Love your videos, watching them convinced me to pull the trigger and order my Bullseye. It’s by far my favorite grill. Rec tec should give you a commission 🙂 Thanks for making your videos, I’m looking forward to more recipes for the Bullseye in the future.
Thanks for watching and so glad you’re loving your Bullseye ... this baby is a real work horse and just plain ole fun to use and yes, it would be nice if RecTeq would do that. 😜
You’re going to love it .... they are so versatile, dependable and downright easy to use that using it becomes habit forming. You’re going to be in for a lot of great food coming off of those grates. Thanks for watching and enjoy!
Great looking cooks and thanks for actually "looking under the hood" alot of the bullseye videos don't show the inside good and rectecs websight pictures don't show that diffuser plate and what it looks like under it
I have the RT 700 as well and love it!! Getting my Bullseye tomorrow and can't wait to do a burn in and put the daily workhorse to use. Good to hear there isn't any problems with your Bullseye 👍🏻!!!
Thanks for the review. I just bought one and have used it a couple of times with great success so far. I’m going to order that cast iron grate. Thanks for the tips.
Thank you for the nice review. I just got mine. I can't wait to see how it cooks. I got mine cause MN winters are cold. It's hard keeping my Weber going. So, now with my Kamado, I should be able to cook all winter long. My only concern is temps on the unit. Some reviews say the temp is about 25-50 degrees higher than what the PID says. Well just have to see..
Congrats on your new cooker. I think you’re going to love it. It is my go to most of the time, but I love the 700 too. I never have even checked my grilling temps. I’ve been so happy with the results that there never any need to check it. Hey have fun with it and enjoy all that awesome food that will be coming off that grate. Thanks for watching
Hey Steve! Thank you so much for your informative videos :) I just picked up the 380Delux for my Dad for Christmas and can't wait to try it out! We are also in Florida and I was wondering if you have any issues with pellets causing auger jams due to our extremely humid climate. I'm hoping he'll be using this on an at least weekly basis. Any problems with moisture in the hopper? How do you usually store your spare pellets? Thanks again!
Hi Ashleigh …. No problems with pellets getting swollen from moisture at all and it sits outside in the elements around the clock. As far as storing them I just keep them in the original bag, both in the garage and in a large plastic storage bin on the lanai. I use only Bear Mountain pellets and I think they’re better than most. Never had a jam in the auger, knocking on wood as I type this. Your Dad should love the 380 …. So versatile and easy to use. It’s addictive, I love mine. He might want to check out my playlist I’ve created on just Bullseye cooks, of course any cooks can be adapted to the Bullseye. After you see him use it and taste all that good food you’re gonna want one for yourself…. LOL
I know … it’s all good! Just check out some of the videos and I’m sure there will be something that catches your eye. Just remember that cooking by internal temps is the way to go. Guarantees the best it can be. I’m excited for your Dad, I hope he cooks you up something special for getting him such a great gift. Tell him SmokinSteve said that he owes you some good cookin’ off that baby. Have fun with it, they really are a great smoker / grill.
I’m not sure if it does or not. I do know that after several cooks, maybe 10 or so, I’ll get clean the pot out and I get maybe a couple of teaspoons full and that’s it. So that makes me think that the blower keeps a lot of it from building up, but doesn’t quit get it all. I’m not real sure on how it was designed to perform, but that’s been my experience with it.
Thanks for the tip ... didn’t want to scratch it up too bad when cleaning. I’m guessing a fine wet Emory cloth would do the trick. Have you ever tried that?
@@SmokinSteve Never did try that but I used a fine sandpaper on my 13 yr old jen air gas grill and brought it back to life ..but you have to use the sand paper going the same grain as the stainless steel... got new parts and it's good as new again
It came out real easy ... Cut the hi temp caulk to release the protective grid. I don't remember whether there were any screws involved or not, but it was real simple to remove it.
Thanks for posting I hope Reqtec recognizes your efforts. I’m wanting to smoke some of my own cured meats like summer sausage, jerky and salmon. Is this grill capable of dehydrating jerkey? I may have to figure out the summer sausage part since I can’t hang the normal 2ft long verticals. I know there are probably better choices for that but I also want to be able to cook a steak and figure out how to make flank steaks palatable.
Thanks for watching. Low temp on the Bullseye is 200°. The recteq Bull 700 has a low temp of 185° which is probably more suitable for jerky. I haven’t tried jerky on the Bullseye, but it may work out ok. I know it’s one heck of a workhorse and I love using it.
I wouldn’t recommend that. It is true that you could burn it off, but you stand a good chance of starting a grease fire and you certainly don’t want to have a grease fire. Riot mode temps get up to 750° and will definitely burn anything off, but if there is a lot of grease you could be in trouble.
@@SmokinSteve thank you for the reply. I think a grease fire could be avoided by using riot mode after every cook and not letting the grease build up too much.
@@rustyshackleford5509 You’re right on that, just don’t let it build up. That’s why I choose to use a drip pan when I expect to get a lot of grease from the cook. I choose to use that method vs. using up pellets in riot mode and discoloring the bottom of the grill from all of that heat. I’d say if it’s working for you and you’re comfortable with it, just keep on doing it your way. There are always alternative methods of doing things. What is good for one is not necessarily good for everyone. Whatever works and your comfortable with is the way to go.
I had a grease leak on day one. I was able to fix the leak by tightening the bolts holding the fire pot in place. I wasn’t able to tighten it a lot, but the little bit that I tightened it stopped the leak. You can order a rubber mat to catch the drips then just wipe off. I have a link in the description section under the video if you want to check them out.
I don’t think so. I tried to measure from the grate to the top of the dome and it looks to be approx 5 1/2” which would be nowhere close to standing up a chicken. If you could lower the grate it would be feasible, I guess. This might be a good question for RecTeq, maybe they would have some advice on doing a beer can chicken. Myself, I just spatchcock them and they are super good.
Great videos! Forgive me if you've already answered this several times, but do you have a preferred brand/flavor of pellets that you recommend for the Bullseye? Thanks!
Haven't done one yet on the Bullseye. I'm guessing it would depend on the size of the bird. I would think even if there wasn't enough headroom you could spatchcock it, that would be my preference of fixing one anyway.
It's a Water/Drip Pan I picked up on Amazon. Works great ... yes it gets hot from the heat in the grill, but has never created any problems at all. Drip Pan/Water Pan .... amzn.to/2SPy9YB
Hi Steve, love your videos and your cooks on the Bullseye. I tried following your link to the cast iron grate that you purchased for your grill but it appears that it is currently unavailable on Amazon. Do you happen to have an alternative link to the product? Thank you very much!
Will this grill cook a 10 - 12lb pork picnic shoulder? Not the butt; my husband cooks picnic shoulders… the section below the butt. It doesn’t have as much fat as the butt. We were told there’s only a 5-5.5in head space in the Bullseye. We’re just not sure if it’ll handle it or if we’d need to have them cut down at the butcher. Any info you can share?
@smokinsteve that water pan you use as a drip pan did you get 1 with your order or 4 ? I ordered on Amazon through your link and it arrived today and to my surprise it was a box of 4. 😂😂
No, I don’t normally use water in the drip pan. It may help with moisture content in your meats. I used to use water a lot when cooking with charcoal, I think the water in the pan helps regulate cooking temps when smoking at low temps more than anything else.
No Briskets, but chuck roast just like brisket. Taste the same and texture the same and I don’t have to buy a huge piece of meat. You’ll have to try it, check out my video. Perfectly Smoked Chuck Roast / Better Than Brisket on the recteq Bullseye
No .... I’ve never had a grease fire. I take precautions to prevent that from happening by keeping the grill free from grease build up. I use a drip pan when doing slow cooks or cooking greasy foods. A person can have a grease fire with any grill if grease is allowed to build up.
