Thanks for posting this video (and the video of the engine after repairs). My Nissan truck started making a whining noise, but I couldn't figure out what was causing it. Your video notes have given me an idea what may be the cause (secondary timing chain).
turns out my Nissan truck (1997) problem is just that the radiator fan clutch is cheap and makes a high pitched whining sound every time I press on the gas. My mechanic says it's a problem for other Nissan vehicles too.
OMG!! Yes mine sounds exactly like yours before the fix. I feel so stupid!! I just always thought that was the way it was supposed to sound. It's been sounding like that since 2018 when I first bought it.
@@foxbodystang8587 right now it has 187,033 miles on it. I have now driven it like this for 5 years and it has been fine. The sound hasn't gotten any worse and the truck drives just fine. It has never broken down, so I probably won't spend that money unless I have to.
Thanks for sharing! My Nissan is soing the same thing and, quite frankly, I'm tired of throwing money at this truck. What is the risk of not fixing it?
Put 2 quarts of transmission fluid in the engine on top of the old oil an let it run an warm up so it can wash the inside of the engine. The timing chain is running dry because its not getting the proper oil. The oil gernals are clogged up.
@@denniscarparts2294 Wait, where do I put the trans fluid? In the oil? I just had an oil change. Will it fit? My car was thirsty. Runs ALOT better since the oil change for sure!

I include the fix in the description, basically a trip to dealership for $1400. A bad timing belt tensioner. Details at Nissan Technical Bulletin: NTB09-128
Your not supposed to reave these engines like you have been doing. They aren't old cars back in the 80's . It sounds like the alternator that is going bad...people drive their own cars into the ground the way the ride hard on them. Take it easy, anything you buy its not going to last....I hope nissan will get a hold and make things right...good luck
This video is 5 years old so I’m assuming he got the problem solved, but I’m having the exact same problem with my 05 frontier and I don’t know what to do, it’s sounded like that since I got it
Mucho cuidado, ese sonido puede confundir, puede ser la cadena de tiempo o la caja de bola del tensor de la correa del ventilador del motor. Me ha sucedido a mí con estos casos.
i just recieved a class action suit on this very issue. we need to win it !
Tell me about the class action lawsuit well that was 5 years ago had to go? LOL
Time to do the timing chain and related components. Just did that on mine and it was a solid $2,300.00 job.
just did mine it was also 2400
they told me timing chain and driving belt
My nismo 2006 at 222k miles had this noise. The mechanic said my alternator bearings are going out. Replaced it and problem solved!

Mine does this only when it starts to over heat… whats the problem !?
My 08 had the same noise 1,890 the dealer charged. The truck does have 178 000 miles ..10.5 hours labor....

timing chain & guides need to be replaced if the guides break then your engine would be f***ed. Cost me 1800 to have done. Best of luck.

I have a brand new nissan and mine has a hint of this sound only when coming to. Stop sometimes..
Mine has done that for 200k, but maybe not as loud. Idk.
So it's OK to keep driving it like that until I can cough up the $2000? I just spent $3600 on the transmission replacement due to SMOD.
@@sapphirejan2040 They all do it. Change timing chain at manufacturer recommendation.
Go start a brand new one for comparison.
