      You can't really fix the fans. Once they start making noise..... Your best bet is to replace it. The fans are built by machine on an assembly line and although it is possible to repair, It takes a tremendous amount of skill.

    wouldnt you need to replace the thermal paste, i once opened an old radeon card not knowing what was thermal paste and after replacing the heat sink without putting new paste on my card melted xD I also heard that once the paste has been heated if you remove the heat sink it causes air bubbles as it breaks the seal which would make the cooling worse

  • @chrispauldupre

    for future reference when you replace 1 i would go ahead and replace all 3. when 1 goes bad it usually means the other 2 are on there way out.

    Thanks for the explanation on how to remove the shroud of the graphics card (remove screws and just pull it away but look out for cables) - it really helped me cleaning my old GTX 980 TI which resulted in almost always 10°C cooler temperatures.
    I wasn't sure if I can just pull it away but after watching your video I tried it with a bit more force and it worked great.

    Same thing same zotac 1080ti amp edition one fan is pissing me off so i ordered a new one on ali express just been too lazy to install it... proly still under warranty but do i really wanna rma a card for an easy fix ?

    • @Raivo_K
      @Raivo_K 5 лет назад +2

      Same thing happened to my Zotac GTX 1080 AMP. After a while one of two fans started making an unbearable sound. Almost like touching the housing while spinning. Lowering the fan speed helped but then i lost performance due to Pascals temp to clock link. So eventually i said screw it (open) and replaced the whole cooling block with Raijintek Morpheus II and 2x Corsair SP120 120mm fans. Now it's super quiet albeit 4 slots thicc. Still - worth it.
      Seems to me like Zotac puts some cheap fans on their cards.

    Why would I have to go in from the back and be forced to replace the thermal paste? I could just go in and open the fans up, then replace them thanks to the splitter. That's what I think I'm going to do with my 2080Ti.

    I just yanked out the broken fan and slapped an 80mm fan over the hole with double sided tape. It's not a pretty solution but sure is quick and quiet!

    • @adamek1xd
      @adamek1xd 5 лет назад

      And how did u connect/power that fan since there are only micro pwm conectors on that card? Woud u buy converter or lose waranty by resoldering old connector?

    • @dominic.h.3363
      @dominic.h.3363 5 лет назад

      @@adamek1xd I plugged it into a normal fan connector, I did not connect it to the video card. I do not need to control the fan through the video card, because the fans on the video card are usually slim fans. Slim fans are a lot worse at cooling than normal thickness fans, they usually do not have a casing either so the airflow is completely unregulated. With a normal 80mm fan the cooling is so much more efficient, that you just set it to a fixed value that still doesn't bother you, and you are good to go.
      Besides, even if that 80mm fan on that fixed speed being silent and all wouldn't be as good as the original fan was, there are other fans on the card too, so the decrease in overall cooling performance without any RPM control would be marginal in that case.

    • @tetleydidley
      @tetleydidley 2 года назад

      Oh and for posterity, I posted the above comment on 23 May 2022, the world has moved past COVID but significant parts of Shanghai and Beijing are still under strict lockdowns because they can't accept 23 positive cases. The people there are only allowed to go out either to take COVID tests or to work for the government to force people to take those tests. And for this reason it took soooooooo long to get my replacement fans. It is my hope that 5 years later, the world's manufacturing hubs would be relocated to democratic countries in Asia (anywhere but China) and Africa, so that when SHTF, we are going to be sure voters would simply replace stubborn unscientific governments with more rational ones.

    I hate sending things in for RMA when I can easily and more importantly quickly fix them myself. The OEM said it would take 6 to 8 WEEKS turn around time when I called them about my vid card. Needless to say I zip tied a case fan to the shroud temporarily while waiting for the new fan from Ebay and did it myself. The cost of the fan delivered was actually cheaper than the shipping cost to send in the card under warranty so I actually saved money.

    I wish they made HBM in an SDcard form factor but with the same performance as an onboard HBM chiplet, and then just have a slot or two on gpus where if you don't have enough VRAM instead of needing a whole new gpu you can just buy HBM chips and just pop them in. I mean they most likely be a bit larger then an SDcard but you know what I mean. And make the slot it goes into underneath a heatsink. For cooling.

    Question to everyone - One of my fans is making a pulsing/whirring/beating noise constantly, it's like a once every 0.8 seconds kinda thing and the intervals get quicker the faster the fan speed goes... this ISN'T crossing the threshold and ramping up and down like Google is obsessed with telling me, its not. This fans is doing it from new. That is the problem of this Zotac Extreme edition. I have 2 and both doing it from new. What I was done is start fans at 70 :D They almost never reach this temp, so they run in passive mode all time :)) Best card, ever .-)

    How to *replace* a GPU fan. Not Disassembling and actually repairing the fan itself.

    Especially Zotac fans are terrible, all cards I had so far the bearings started to make kicking sounds after about 2-3 years. They are easy to change, like shown in the video, but I can only find them on Aliexpress and none of them have working PWM (It's working for the original ones so it's not the fan controller). They all run on full speed all the time, I also removed the sticker of the original ones , but the Zotac fans don't have a port to put in some fresh lube. This shit is driving me nuts, such a cheap part and I can choose between Morse code signals or haydryer noises from my GPU...
