      Barry Eaton then get a torch lighter... and for the most part, I find regular clippers to work at about -1 Celsius. Didn’t try any lower since I live in kuwait which is, ya know, a desert. But for the most part, clippers are good. I still need to learn how to change the flint, cause I usually throw them when the flint is dead.

    • @Stigstigster
      @Stigstigster 5 лет назад +3

      @@anomnomnomnivore1350 To change the flint, pull straight up on the wheel and it'll come out easy enough. Then the bottom of the sparker has a little cap that unscrews pulling the spring out. Drop in a new flint, reassemble and good to go. It's nice having a relatively modern cheap item that is totally reusable. I've honestly had the same one for around 5 years. I reckon it costs me less than £1 a year to run and saves wasting plastics. Literally millions of them must be thrown away every year.

    Great trick about switching out the flint wheel, that Clipper star shaped one has formed a callous on my thumb. I always enjoy trying something new so I got it, it functioned just fine lighting my joint & while I was sitting there enjoying the transformation that had taken place I became aware of something in my hand which right away I didn’t know what it was because it was unusual but also felt nice in my hand as it was dramatically different shape than a bic so I began to look it over and saw the bottom of it wasn’t just a little slit and it was in that moment where I decided I would never go back! 😂

    Clippers are good for smoking because the flint tube is also a poker and if you put it upside down it pushes more butane out which is really useful for everything. I always knew the Clipper lighters were reusable. I carry the Bic Mini though because the shorter and flat size fits better in the pocket. Clipper has since came out with a Bic Mini sized lighter though, so I will be switching to that when I can find one.

    I never knew either, but since I don’t smoke, I have no real need for one. But I felt it was interesting to say that I have found literally hundreds of lighters in my day and 95% of them will light when I try flicking them. In my edc pouch I keep a tiny brass peanut style lighter just for emergencies. In case I need to make a fire one day. I also keep a mini ferro rod in there too.

    Look into it farther Jeff. They do make clippers in lots more variants and one is zippo fuel. They make full size jet flame metal clippers also. It may not be a fake. Side note. Clipper lighters are owned by raw papers now.

    Haha great video Jeff but I'm amazed you didn't know Clippers are completely refillable.
    You can even get two flints in them if you don't screw the spring all the way in.
    I've been reusing them that long I still have some with the classic round wheel instead of the "child safe" wheel.
    Here in the UK we can get mini Clippers like the Bic, still plastic exactly the same as the original but mini.
    Keep up the great content 🖒

    I thought you were going to say why not to throw away the big and crack lighters also. The crack lighters striker wheel can be changed with the clippers if you don't like the star shape, the regular bics are too wide. Also you can take the flints out of the empty Bic lighters, the crack lighters usually don't have much flint left. I also have heard you can refill the crack lighters through the top valve but never tried it.

    I used to only use Bic lighters and I still think they are great lighters until they get wet. But even then throw some flame on the ignition part let the flame burn a while and boom it works again. (For those that didn’t know that’s how you fix that) but as I got older I found myself using the brand less cheap ones and actively seeking those out over bics not because I think their better I just tend to not lose those as opposed to the bics and whenever you “lend” someone a lighter it’s more likely they will return it when it’s the nameless brand less color plastic ones over the bics. So because of that I got more of the older ones.

    The reason the flint wheel is so long is partly to fit the spring and also to be able to pack joints yes clippers were made with stoners in mind it's also why the flame gets bigger when you hold it to the side is so you dont burn your finger when you light a bowl

  • @sirtra
    @sirtra 5 лет назад +2

    FYI you can refill bic lighters - not officially but using a simple/dodgy little trick :)
    1) Grab a thumbtack / pinup board tack, shove it into the hole on the bottom of the bic lighter til it pierces thru - theres usually a faint puff noise heard as the last bit of gas escapes
    2) pull the pin out of the hole you made
    3) using a butane refill bottle and one of the nozzle bits it comes with that fits the larger circle bit under the bic fill the lighter - as soon as you've done this put your thumb over the hole/bottom to stop the fluid spraying out
    4) keep holding your thumb over the hole for a few seconds so things settle - once its settled you'll generally have 1-2 seconds before the fluid sprays out when you release your thumb
    5) lastly remove your thumb and quickly shove the thumbtack / pin back in the hole
    Takes some people a few practice goes to get the technique right but once you learn its quick and easy to do - once it runs out again just remove the pin and repeat the process.
    You can usually repeat this until the flint in the lighter runs out - or until you've made the hole to big in the bottom and the fluid slowly leaks even with the pin in.

      The flame shrinks doing this. I have a refill valve on a few and the flame is never the same. Tiny.

    • @sirtra
      @sirtra Год назад +1

      @@rafaeltorre1643 get higher quality butane, the shrinkage is due to lower octane levels... go to an electronics shop and buy a brand of butane sold specifically for soldering irons, it'll be more expensive per gram but you'll see it's not the method or lighter but the quality of product you're using.
      Alternatively i've found putting the butane can in the freezer for a few hours first will adequately compensate in many cases - by injecting pre-chilled butane, it creates slightly higher pressure inside the lighter as it warms back to room temp. This workaround is not ideal though as it's effectiveness diminishes as the butane runs out - you'll end up refilling non-empty lighters and wasting butane in the process but is better than not using the butane at all.
      In short, you get what you pay for.. sometimes the cheapest product isn't actually the cheapest option.
      A butane can that costs 20% more might get you 30% more mileage.

      @rafaeltorre1643 Год назад

      @@sirtra I made a couple of refillable Bic’s with screw on refill valves from old butane lighters. So I wouldn’t waste any butane. Thanks for explaining. I’ve never knew much about isobutane or propane when it comes to lighters or torches and I fix them. Just never searched out butane alternatives. I hear they light better.

    • @sirtra
      @sirtra Год назад

      @@rafaeltorre1643 ahh definitely try the freezer trick then i found it gives enough of a boost for the cheap low quality butane sold at hardware stores where i am, still not as good as the better quality butane but acceptable. You can also pre-chill the lighter for a little extra bump too, think of it like filling a warm glass vs cold glass with chilled water.
      Funnily enough I've also tried putting a refillable valve on a bic but couldn't get it to seal right, i gave up trying fairly quickly since i've gotten the thumbtack technique down pat... but i'd be curious if you have any tips or tricks you can give on how you've managed to do it?
      Like do you use some sort of sealant/glue or a special way to create the initial hole or something which avoids leaks?

They had wide threads and a gasket and screwed on perfectly. No adhesive needed. I can show you pics if you leave your email address. I also have suggestions on way better lighters then bics. Think a mix between a clipper and a bic but adjustable and wheel pops out. I love these lighters.
