  • How To 100% Deer Proof Your Garden and Fruit Trees Works for me!
I have to deer-proof everything I plant, I came up with this method many years ago, it works 100% and has been working for years.
Now if I leave the gate to the garden open for one night, I will have plants eaten. that's how bad it is around here.
I hope this video helps, if you have any questions let me know. Thanks.

Deer do not generally like to jump wide or into anywhere when they can't see where they're going to land. If you use double fences or outer fence & inner hedge, spaced about 3-4 feet apart, they will not jump. These don't need to be more than 4-5 feet tall. There are plants that they generally won't touch---they've never even looked at my laurel bushes or rosemary plants. And the super simplest way I've found, esp. for small or temporary spaces, is to loosely roll lengths of wire fencing about 2-3 feet wide, then lay the rolls down 2 deep, all around the area to protect. This has kept them out of my rose garden (they love roses, but mostly in the spring). Just be sure there's not too much or too little space between the inside roll & your plants. Building taller & taller fences is a lot of work & they can jump 7 feet when you've so thoughtfully made a nice, cleared space for them to land. Of course, if they are truly hungry & food is scarce, all bets may be off!

That dirty rotten scoundrel jumped easy peasy right thru those 2 lines…. I’ve seen them clear a 7 ft fence but I’ve never seen them exhibit such ballet worthy finesse…. Great video.

they are definitely sneak critters. I have since added more wires and they have not made it through again. glad I installed the security cam to see how they were doing it.

Love Love this video!! Thank you, will definitely be using your deer deterrent tactics when I design my garden area - love that you don't have electric or barb wire that can hurt the deer! I absolutely love my deer but don't want them eating from my garden. Thanks for taking the time to show us your great ideas to deer proof gardens!

Your garden is lovely! What work. But it’s always in progress. I know it’s an investment. But what isn’t? Once you get that all nailed down. It will be smooth sailing. You have the TRUE GARDENER mentality. “I WILL WIN” 🤣. Thanks for the vid!

I think deer around my farm hide in the woods & watch to see me leave then come to eat everything I have. Got them on camera during the day eating. I like your style of prevention. Gonna do it.

Yeah electric and spacing it out. Height alone won’t keep them from jumping. Used to live near military land with 10ft fences encircling it and deer jumped it all the time.

That’s great, got to fence them out, I have couple gaps, got to cover them
What do u do about the underground intruders ? They’ve been digging holes under the fence, chewing thru, real problem, the fruit trees r safe, other stuff on the ground got to figure out !!!
    Any ideas ?

I still have some possums that climb the fence and others that dig under. but they only get some low plants and not my grape vines. I place corrugated plastic pipe on the base of all by fruit trees so nothing can chew at them and it protects from weedwhacker as well.

8 foot fence best way to go in long run

Looong video just to say that horizontal wires need to be x# of inches high & x# inches apart to deter deer from jumping through. & why you put grape vines within their reach???

    • @TheFrugalHugelGardener
      @TheFrugalHugelGardener  9 месяцев назад +2

LOL, well first thing is that when I was installing the cabling it was my intention besides making my garden deer proof to have grape vines, the top grapevines our out of reach, now, as far as inside of my vineyard double row grape vine trellises, that is the exact Hight that you are supposed to grow grape vines. now as far as spacing, with trial and error and video footage, I have everything under control. so no deer get in during the growing season. lots of deer by the fence nightly thought. however, after I harvest my garden and grapes, I open all the gates so the deer can enjoy the greens. Thanks for your input.

@@TheFrugalHugelGardener So... you train the deer to where food is every year. 😵‍💫
Never let them learn where good food is. One electric wire outside the fence that was a few feet away might have been a simple solution. Your video is a good resource as to where to put it.
Your deer are very fat. They must eat out of area gardens a lot.

  • @ir5239

What type of cable do you use for the grapes (the one that runs al the way up top) and what wires do you use as intermediate between the fence and top cable? Thank you for the video!
