    I would also say, there could be a multitude of reasons why iron may be low and there is not one cure. His point on oxalates/phytic acid is true. Others to add that are high in oxalates is dark chocolate. Also if you are supplementing Turmeric every day, that will lower iron status as well, in fact turmeric is given to people with overly high iron status.
    You could also be deficient in Copper. Copper is a major player and helps the absorption of iron. You could also be too high in Calcium, high calcium inhibits absorption of iron.
    So if your low in iron, I would say, obviously check your trace mineral status, but supplementing with copper (along with zinc, so to not deplete zinc, because copper depletes zinc, and also zinc is a major precursor for HCL-stomach acid production) supplement magnesium to counterbalance high calcium and balance with potassium. Lower intake of high oxalate foods. Eat organic red meat (high in heme- the highest absorbable version of iron). Supplementing with just iron may make your stomach hurt very bad, you would need to add allot of cofactors to help it assimilate and digest.

    • @DFWDANCEBAND
      @DFWDANCEBAND 2 года назад +8

      Actually Kale is not good at all for iron due to the high Oxalates and calcium content which inhibit iron absorption.

    • @thegreatestislove8604
      @thegreatestislove8604 2 года назад +4

      @@DFWDANCEBAND where did you hear kale was high in oxalates? Were you thinking of spinach maybe? If you’ve been skipping out on kale because of that then you can feel safe to eat it because it’s low in oxalates and was recommended as an alternative to other greens that are high. As far as the calcium content, the low amount of oxalic acid that is present in raw kale binds to the calcium greatly reducing it’s absorption in the body. So if you’re worried about too much calcium eat it raw not cooked. Because cooking destroys oxalates. You can also eat high iron foods at a different time in the day than ones with more calcium to help iron absorb better.

    Could you do a video specifically on low ferritin? I.e. supposedly you don't have anemia, but your ferritin is super low. Doctors aren't caring about this!

    • @flyhappy1
      @flyhappy1 4 года назад +14

      Yes! Low ferritin! How can we increase it?

    • @kotenoklelu3471
      @kotenoklelu3471 3 года назад +25

      I take iron supplement with folic acid. You shouldn't take it with calcium (diary, fish ...), tea, coffee, chocolate. Basically it's what comes before anemia, first you have low ferritin, then when you lose even more iron, you became anemic. I have iron deficiency without anemia. I have cracks on lips after periods (Angular cheilitis), bruises under eyes, fatigue (I felt like I can faint when I was walking), sometimes restless leg syndrome, brain fog. Also you can have hard time to lose weight if you are iron deficient. I saw video where women was on keto diet and can't lose weight, doctor found iron deficiency without anemia. On iron supplement she lose weight, waist... Mostly females are at risk of iron deficiency because of heavy periods. Better to drink iron that contain something against constipation (badly absorbed iron leads to constipation). Some people prefer liquid iron. It's believed that iron supplements better absorbed if you skip the day, so one day iron supplement, one day off

    • @imanishabazz4590

      They sure don’t care! That was the main reason I was sick when my ferritin levels were way too low!

    • @Honey-Bee-25
      @Honey-Bee-25 3 года назад +12

      THANK YOU!! Just some back story....I was told my hemoglobin and everything was normal for FIVE YEARS despite complaints of SEVERELY debilitating & heavy periods ALL MY LIFE but unbearable once I reached 26...from then I developed heart problems (palpitations & fast heart rate, told it was panic attacks at that I had anxiety and needed to stop coming to the ER just drink electrolytes when it happens or get psych meds. I took 2 antidepressants before I gave up smh...none of it helped!). I also gained weight steadily since puberty then when everything developed with my heart, I gained 60lbs in 4 months despite not changing a thing in my diet. I also had severely cracked & peeling bleeding lips & fingers, breathlessness, couldnt walk more than 10 minutes without needing to sit down or rest meaning I couldnt work off the weight I was gaining either!! I explained all this to doctors and they just shrugged it off and told me to lose weight and it will help! They didn't understand I was TRYING and none of it budged!
      A kind doctor I was with finally ordered me a full blood panel after I kept complaining of the same symptoms for a year with her (can onky see her 2 to 3 times a year because shes so booked up, so I dont blame her here)...but she tested my ferritin, CBC, & iron and TIBC and my iron saturation was an 8!!!! Its supposed to be a minimum of 15, but apparently people need to be at at least a 50 to feel normal though tests allow as low as 15 to be considered normal range! Everything else was right at the border of the lower limit for anemia. So one point lower and it would be classified as anemia but because it hadnt dipped low, I was always told it was "normal." Never had my iron saturation tested until now 5 years later, despite always asking and informing docs of my symptoms!! It's like doctors are almost offended if you ask for tests they dont order. But I was blessed enough to receive a kind doctor this time around, who finally believed me after I explained I have been struggling with this for 5 years, and I broke doen crying saying it's even gotten so bad I lost my job for going on 3 years now and dont get rehired because Im honest (so I cant be fired for withholding information if I need time off because I lost 3 jobs over the course of 2 years). I was always sick and vomiting during my periods with cramps that feel like labor pains! And it costs me my jobs because too many sick days or I get sent home at least once a month smh. Im thankful we caught everything before it got too low because low iron can cause heart attacks just like high iron as well.
      But thank you for the info you provided above. I have been taking my iron daily for about a month now (Vitron iron plus C) and it managed to jump 2 points. I expected more since it's such a high dose. I wonder if my periods are depleting my iron that much, or if something else is going on I should look into. Apparently gastro problems can delete iron, cancers, and internal bleeding. But I just recently had my first cycle in 2 years where I didnt vomit!! I was still nauseous and had bad cramps but not vomitting all day!!! That's a start!!!
      I didnt know about alternating though. I was plant based to try to counteract the weight gain and though I felt good when I wasnt on my cycle, I think it caused my iron to drop extremely low over time as I learned a lot of the foods I eat on the diet further block iron absorption as well and its harder for plant iron to be converted. I am pescatarian now and only eat salmon and sardines about 3 to 4 time a week. I didnt know about alternating iron! So I will try taking iron on days I dont eat meat and let my fish be my iron supplement for the days I dont take a tablet and see if that works better! Thank you again!!

    • @Honey-Bee-25
      @Honey-Bee-25 3 года назад +10

      OH! And once I added iron...about 2 to 3 weeks in, my weight actually drops when I exercise now (slowly but it's decreasing), my lips and fingers are almost healed, and when I dont exercise or eat normal calories, my weight stays the same!! Before it would still creep up even though I was in a deficit or in maintenance level!! I actually ate a little over maintenence for 2 days and my weight stayed the same! Before I could easily gain 2 to 3 pounds if I did that! And it would stick around so it wasnt water weight! I also was able to walk for an hour straight on a treadmill for the first time in YEARS!!! Usually I had to get off and rest at the 5 to 7 minute mark. So it's sad how much doctors underestimate the importance of iron!

    I saw Dr. Berg's video on everyone being low on zinc and mega dosed it for a long time. I started feelign fatigued, anxious, hair loss,etc. Discovered my ferritin was low. All that zinc blocked copper and iron absorption. In fairness Dr. Berg does have a video on low copper but he also has one on copper toxicity. You need some copper to absorb iron.

      Philip Mc Adam Philip, thanks for posting your comment. I tried to donate yesterday, but my number was too low and that is why I came checking for this topic. The nurse also said it could be my Vitamin D, as it helps absorption. Regardless, looks like the right track for fixing the issue.

      I increased my consumption of Liver for the Iron Also when I would eat Spinach I would either lightly cook it or consume with cheese and lemon juice.
      On the blood donation I would have your normal meal an hour or so before hand. I do now and with my slice of liver for my protein. I have one eating window per day and was leaving my meal after I had donated blood which was not the smartest of ideas. Now I eat before I go. Have had no rejections since.

    I post this video and someone wrote this can you address this if you have time 🙄..I just saw his video, eggs actually have an iron inhibitor called Phosvitin in the Yolk which is where the iron also resides. Phosvitin inhibits iron 26%.
    And, Spirulina doesn't really have that much iron when you put it into perspective, and it also has B12 analogue which h the body can't use and inhibits good B12 in the meantime. It's not good particularly if you're B12 Deficient.
    He missed, Polyphenols, Tannins, Phosvitin, Calcium and Caffeine as additional inhibitors.

    • @controlyourtemperjeez8220
      @controlyourtemperjeez8220 2 года назад

      Wait, so does B12 help or not? And I read that eggs help because of the vitamin D in them which decreases inflammation which is an inhibitor

    Testimony: "In 2019, I was diagnosed with Essential Thrombocythemia. I was fine and checking my blood levels regularly. This year, in January, tests showed I had anemia. No medication then (they told me I should go to Gyne to sort my fibroids, as I was bleeding heavily for 3 out of 4 weeks).
    In Feb. I had a collapse and went to ER. STILL, no medication. After almost hitting someone at the medical practice, they sent me for blood tests again and ECG. Iron and hemog was so low (7), I have an arrhythmia, and the doctor did not tell me. He just prescribed iron tablets to be taken 2x/day. My hair was like air and my nails were worst than paper. I could not go upstairs to my room without almost fainting after 5 steps! I am drinking turmeric tea 2x and taking the tables and following the best docs on the internet. I have restarted exercising and jogging. I do not feel exhausted, but my skin and hair are still poor. The only meat I eat is liver (since 2018). B12 levels are good.
    All I wish is for doctors to look at my situation as a whole, instead of playing medics. Having ET means I can be having leucemia if anemia is not treated properly. They don't even think of that. I want to have fibroids removed to stop the bleeding, but they take so long with bookings. Honestly, my one and only reason for being patient and calm is my Faith. Until December, I was working in a malaria-prone country in Africa, and somehow, I lost my flight back, after coming home for Christmas.
    God kept me here and I trust that I am being looked after by Divine Forces. I will keep on praying for faster appointments and clear results."
    Question: CAN THIS 49 YR WOMAN TAKE ACV?
    Thank you.

      what is ashwagandha

    • @ardentechoes6451
      @ardentechoes6451 5 лет назад +2

      @@arteedevi3623 "Withania somnifera" aka "Indian Ginseng" is is a plant/herb commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine. To quote a Western source (WebMD):
      "Ashwagandha is used for arthritis, anxiety, bipolar disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), balance, obsessive-compulsive dirorder (OCD), trouble sleeping (insomnia), tumors, tuberculosis, asthma, a skin condition marked by white patchiness (leukoderma), bronchitis, backache, fibromyalgia, menstrual problems, hiccups, Parkinson's disease, and chronic liver disease. It is also used to reduce side effects of medications used to treat cancer and schizophrenia. Ashwagandha is used to reduce levels of fat and sugar in the blood.
      Ashwagandha is also used as an "adaptogen" to help the body cope with daily stress, and as a general tonic.
      Some people also use ashwagandha for improving thinking ability, decreasing pain and swelling (inflammation), and preventing the effects of aging. It is also used for fertility problems in men and women and also to increase sexual desire.
      Ashwagandha is applied to the skin for treating wounds, backache, and one-sided paralysis (hemiplegia).
      The name Ashwagandha is from the Sanskrit language and is a combination of the word ashva, meaning horse, and gandha, meaning smell. The root has a strong aroma that is described as "horse-like."
