I just recently found your channel as google "Recommended" it. I am glad they did. Very inspirational, the precision of your craftsmanship inspires me to do more projects myself instead of putting things off!
I'm glad you found this music. Enjoyed the video AND the music. Thanks so much for the work you do on these videos...very entertaining and great ideas.
I picked up a pack of replacement blades from the Lowe's clearance bin that do not fit any of my utility knives. So this video has given me a good idea for how to use those blades. Thanks!
I finally bought a pair of aviation snips because I used to cut metal like you are and to me it's like fingernails on a chalkboard. I don't mess with metal a lot but when I do it's nice having the right tools. Nice build.
You know I was thinking about flagging it for looking a bit like the knife I see at lowes but you know....;) Just messing would NEVER do something like that to anybody!
I had to re-edit and re-upload this due to a bogus copyright claim. I made a few improvements while I was at it. For more details about this project, check out the website article: www.ibuildit.ca/other%20projects/olfa-knife-1.html
One of the simplest tools in a workshop at least simplest of those that have moving parts has just been turned into a piece of art. :) I love it. All the more reason for me to get active and build a belt sander. Thanks for posting. :0
i have to say it john now i have somone to look up to becouse you build sutch an amazing tools and stuff that realy could help anybody to acheve what they whant to do. Like making furnitures or tools as you had done man i whant to do the stuff that you do it looks so cool to work with what you have. All the ideas that comes to my mind when i see your videos :)
That is nice, it looks like mahogany wood. Looks like a lot of work, but it came out nice as heck. I would not mind having one of those. Its pretty sweet looking.
I got a job as a sculptor at an art studio where we used 9mm (olfa cutter 300, if you're interested) craft knives, and I made a wooden one just for giggles (I got the sculpting job because the owner was impressed with my woodcarving skills). The owner said that in more than 25 years of production art, he'd never seen anyone make their own knife. I was curious if anyone else had made one since there were some goofy design changes that had to be made for it to play nice with wood, and I have to say, I made it much the same way as you did. I used a brass thumb screw to pinch the blade and the blade carrier/carriage onto the wood. In the last 6 months they've altered the 9mm knives we've been using forever, and they're getting really tricky to find. The new replacement model is nowhere near as good, so handmade replacements might be in order. My boss is a little heartbroken that they've decided to make the knife worse for seemingly no reason, so I might try to make him a bombproof one out of brass, or maybe some really nice tiger maple.
Thanks John, I have Watched many of your video's more than once, I also enjoyed this one the second time. Hope you had a Merry Christmas, and wish you a prosperous New Year.
really enjoy your videos...thanks for sharing your knowledge and know-how....you have a great knack of simplifying some quite technical..(to me)..projects, through the way you work and edit your videos...and I love the way that these projects result in something useful to use ...I have gained a lot of confidence in my own basic woodworking..( being a novice )..and always learn something from viewing your videos... for this I am very grateful.
Great video! But I'm having a problem with the mustard, it won't stick the wood together as it does in the video. Is the mustard supposed to be french's or can it be a different brand? Because I only have Heinz atm.
Thats nice work you,ev done there I had built walking stick well I got lucky the stick cus it fell off the tree and was the right size and length just had to do a few hours of wood shaving and boom lackerd it and omg it nice
John I have been a fan of your site for a long time and I have a question. I've seen you build clamps, vice, sanders and so on. Here lately I have watched you sheet the walls in a room I figured you constructed which brings me to ask... When something in the house (kitchen, bath, whatever) breaks and Mrs. Heisz says "Honey will you fix this?" Do you put her off hoping she'll forget or do you fix it? lol
At 0:48 i liked the drill with your stamp. It looked like Diresta who has paint all of his tools. I am curious about the copyright claim, was it about music?
Youre awesome man. First video of yours ive watched and im subscribed. Id love to build a wooden utility knife. thats so cool. Ill deffinately be checking out your plans :)
Classic John Heisz video! Really enjoyable watch.

For sure John - you're one of my favorite "makers" on RUclips - such cool stuff and interesting approaches to problems/solutions.

Truly outstanding music to woodwork by.
I am going to have to add this onto my to-make list (with sufficient design changes so as not to infringe on copyright laws).
The Nomadic Polywright Show No copyright issues unless you sell it.
