La Laguna, North Tenerife | The Oldest City on the Island | UNESCO Site

- We rode over to Tenerife’s old capital city of La Laguna. This is thought to be the first well laid out Spanish colonial city, with subsequent cities copying the layout, such as Havana Old Town in Cuba.
La Laguna is the first established city in the Canary Islands, and it also has the Canaries’ first university. Such is its importance, the town of La Laguna is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It’s a beautiful city for a day trip and has plenty of centrally located, free, motorcycle parking. Lots of coffee shops, restaurants, beautiful buildings, and a huge amount of history. It’s a university town, so it has a great buzz to it.

Nice to see a foreigner showing my island from a different perspective, not the typical beach and sun video. You are showing and discovering the real Tenerife. Enjoy and welcome home! 😝❤️
Really appreciate it, gracias Francisco!🙂
Your island? Did you buy it?
@@antoniodarosamartinez83 jaja, tú sí que te aburres para contestar a esos comentarios.
@@sandradeluis7635 🤣
Hi Freddi, as a Spaniard living in Tenerife I can't help but admire all of Monica's work with the camera, the editing and the music. You really show the best face of our island. Congratulations continue like this
Your speech is good too, don't be jealous!
Lameculos
Tu de que vas?
Thank you so much Pablo!
What an island- we absolutely love Tenerife🙂🖤👌🏻
I’ve shared this with Monika- hugely appreciated!🙌🏻
“3 to 4 hour lunch break ! That quality of life comes first” they definitely have a “proper” view on how to live life ! …Freddie, Monica, we appreciate all the work and effort you put into these great videos ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ !
Don’t they!🇪🇸👌🏻
Thanks Brian!
Yes but then you have to make two journeys to work. Wouldn’t want to be late twice in the one day.
@@hetty43 True!😆
One thing that always impresses me about these videos, is Monika's camera work, it's really good, especially the stuff done on the back of the motorcycles whilst riding down the road. Keep up the great work, both of you. 👍 🇬🇧
Good music choices and good editing, nice slow sweeps with the camera
Really appreciate it- I’ve shared this with Monika!🙂
@@FreddieDobbs You're welcome. Take care.
Yo vivo en la laguna y nunca me cansó de su belleza 😍
I can't believe before our 7am to 9:30 am Sunday morning news intake,I have to look for the Freddie and Monica updates! Just so uplifting!
Delighted you’re enjoying it!🙂🙌🏻🙌🏻
Another awesome moment with Freddie and the brilliant videography of Miss Monica. For 15 glorious minutes I escaped the walls of my home where I self quarantine with Covid. Thankyou for the slice of cheesecake, with historical commentary flavor of Grid streets, nation flags and the lively promenades of LA Laguna.
Be safe, and I look forward to the next adventure.
Tom
Thank you for showing off beautiful La Laguna! ❤️ My husband, daughter and I live in la laguna and absolutely love it, cant think of anywhere else to live on the island. Glad you enjoyed your visit. The North has some amazing gems to explore💎
Hi Freddie,
My girlfriend and I enjoy watching your videos. We love your zest for life and love for travel and experiencing the world. The way you are able to present minded and just see and appreciate things is something a lot of us aspire for.
Wishing you both all the best.
I’m delighted you’re both enjoying the videos!🙂
Thank you so much for the kind words, I hugely appreciate it!🙌🏻
9:54 - Brings a new meaning to the term 'a shot in the dark'.
I bet those drinks tasted fantastic after that ride up.
Hi , living on a Postage stamp size Island in the middle of the Atlantic , every thing is in a short bike ride away . Such diversity , scenery , bikes and top priority , cake and coffee . Great video Monika and thanks for the trip Freddie . Keep them coming and ride and stay safe .
You’re spot on- if really is an incredibly diverse range of scenery, all within an hour’s ride🏝🌋
Awesome video and awesome content can’t wait for the next video Thanks Freddie and Monica
So glad you enjoyed it, thanks Jason!🙌🏻
Freddie and Monica you are showing why myself and my partner at the time, enjoyed going to Tenerife multiple times per year, as the diversity of the island left us in awe each and every time we visited. Of course we had a car not a motorbike.
Thanks very much- it really is a stunningly diverse island🙂🖤👌🏻
Nice seeing people discovering the cities and not just the beaches of my island. Enjoy!
Welcome to my city, where you are always welcome. Excellent review..!!
Thank you so much!🙌🏻
Great film and what a beautiful city. Shout out to Monica for the filming, editing and wonderful soundtrack. Many Thanks!.
Thanks so much John, I’ve shown this to Monika🙂
If you're in Tenerife, La Laguna is a must. Always take a sweater or jacket as it definitely gets chilly up there
As a Tenerife citizen, I really appreciate this video because I think we all here are used to this lanscapes and this city and in some occasions we feel they are places so common in other areas of the world and of course it's not like that. Thanks a lot, great video!!
That means a lot, thank you Miguel!🙂
We were there!... man, I am enjoying riding along on all these videos. Thanks Freddie and Monica.
La Laguna looks great - plenty of quality shops, heritage sites and nice bikes. That Honda 500 looks pristine with 65,000 km on the clock. The salt water doesn't seem to affect vehicle metal so badly as in the UK. Look forward to you and Monika's further adventures - has changed my viewpoint on Tenerife.
Loving the videos Freddie, makes me want to move to Tenerife. Great music 🎶 as well.
Thanks Phil!🙌🏻🙌🏻
Yes a great soundtrack, great film quality too. Looks a gorgeous city.
Sunday morning sat with a cup of tea watching your vlog, perfect!
Great video, keep on riding and posting your adventures.
Really appreciate it Shane!🙂
Great video again.
I own the revit alpha chino for 2 years now and I can’t tell you how happy I am with it. It wears really good and protection is almost unnoticed.
You will enjoy it a lot you will see.
Thanks Alex!
That’s great to know you’re happy with them after two years- they feel like they’re made to last for life!
Great video Freddie & Monika, and I totally agree with you Freddie on the BMW 800cc, they would sell out, even I would go for 1. Well done you two! 👍👍
Thanks Nelio, I’m really glad you agree because I’d even consider buying that BMW too!🙂🖤🏍
I love how every motorcycle rider is same... everytime I stop next to other motorcycles I have to go around a check all of em:D
Glad to hear it’s not just me!😀🏍🖤
Another excellent vid. Big shout out to the filming and production manager, Monica 😀👏👏👏
BTW I took a cb500 from Lancashire to Monaco a few years ago and that had 65k miles on it, the engines are bombproof. Another cb500 1999 fully restored now sits in my garage 👍
Thanks!🙌🏻
Oh WOW- there’s nothing I love more than an epic trip on an everyday machine, and that sounds like a superb trip!😀
I really love those Hondas!🖤👌🏻🏍
Hi, great video as usual me and my wife we love your vlog , and my wife she really impressed with Monika’s photography and making video she does it like professionally well done to her good work , 👍
Thanks so much Taz!!
Excellent vlog today, so enjoyed this morning's escape from my reality!
Good start to the day. Look forward to the next one.
Thanks Paul, really glad you enjoyed it!🙂
Found this video on reccomended and I actually enjoyed it a lot, love when tourists show the place I live cause they always have a different perspective from a typical resident.
Great video Freddie and Monika well done nice island!
Thanks Ron!
As a 60 yr old ex-biker (last one being a Triumph Trident 900 ), I am strongly feeling the urge to purchase another bike after watching these videos, Thanks for renewing my interest in motorcycles - great videos by the way!
Buenos dias friddie & Monica a super ride out on your bike to the amazing views with every new blog very interesting. You have taken time to do your research that it makes it great quality & eye catching . Ps . would interesting if there are bike meets & bike clubs for get-togethers and social rides. Thank you . Rolley
Hi Rolley,
Really glad you enjoyed it!
I’ll try to get some of the Tenerife bike scene videos into the channel too🙂🤘🏻🏍🏍
Brilliant journey I’ve followed your trip to Tenerife as its my favourite place to
Holiday I definitely need to see more of the island it looks amazing, keep up the good work 👍🏽
Hello you 2, Another great video and a different ride out La Laguna so clean, perhaps the British tourist has not found it yet, if I go by the lay by’s in the UK.
How come you 2 are so slim all I see you do is drink coffee and eat gorgeous cake. Nice to have a shot of Monika, stop hiding behind the lens and go in front for a change.
If you carry on at this rate the will be nothing to know or discover in Tenerife with your excellent tour guide.
Loved the Saltire hanging as they say you should learn something new every day.
Take care
Thanks Richard!
You’re absolutely right- this is not a touristy spot, and incredibly clean👌🏻👌🏻
I’m always working on getting Monika on the other side🙂📹
Wow, thank you for that fantastic video, Freddie and Monika! I used to live in Tenerife (San Andrés and then Santa Cruz), but I absolutely loved La Laguna! I think you must have done the same walking tour as me - I remember that about La Habana being based on the design of La Laguna. I recognised all those streets, and I think I even had coffee in that cafe. The Anaga Mountains are just amazing, I just looked at them every day and thought "I don't believe I live here". Have you ever done the bus ride from Santa Cruz to Taganana? It goes to San Andrés and from there it takes you through the Anaga Mountains to the other side of the island. If you haven't, I'd recommend it, it was my favourite place on the island! Thanks again, this is the first time I've seen one of your videos, I'll look out for the others 😀
Beautiful episode, looking forward to catching up Mr. Dobbs!
Great video Freddie and Monica.
Beautiful and clean looking city , great to see you're both enjoying the change of pace and lifestyle
Thanks Trevor, we’re really loving it!🙂👌🏻
Freddie, when you get the time please venture to La Orotava, Garachico ( stopping for a minute at what was the old gate into the city before a volcanic eruption) onto Buenavista…one end of this beautiful island to the other. Safe driving to both of you.
Thanks Isobel, 100% I’ll do this!🙂
I knew that my ancestors from Cuba came from Canary Islands, but, only just this week I learned that they are originally from La Laguna, Tenerife. What a beautiful place!
You know I am moving to Norwich at the end of the month, it will be such a new adventure for me, and yes this is poles apart but this move you made has inspired me so much, thanks you two!!!!
I’m so glad to hear that! And Monika and I are HUGE Norwich fans (Monika lived there for three years)- beautiful city!🖤👌🏻
The best of luck with your new chapter Bernard!🙂
Nice to see someone else also covering sides of Tenerife (and the Canarias) than just the beaches. For those wanting to see more places worth visiting in La Laguna, I got them covered in my video. Good work guys! 👍
Hi Freddie and Monica , loving the vlogs the combination of the bikes for my partner and we love Tenerife. You are definitely living the dream . Great music and camera work and Monica makes you look like a model for a bike magazine in the pictures . 😎
So glad you’re both enjoying it, thanks Donna!
We’re loving every second🙂🇪🇸
I’m very lucky Monika knows what she’s doing with the photography and videography!🙂📹📸
I’d be so proud if Freddie rocked up next to my bike and started an impromptu review of it! Nice one Freddie, new subscriber and binge watching all your videos!!
Hey, I live there. Gran vídeo, sigue así

Just stumbled across this channel … love it ✌️
Another great video Freddie and Monika, if you keep up the Coffee and Cake lark you will soon need a Harley Fat Boy 😃
Agreed!🤣🤣
thanks for showing our place, greetings❤️😎
Very well made video. Positive vibes! Keep it up
Hey Freddie the Enfield looked amazing maybe it gets ridden occasionally one would hope .Superb seeing all the views and who knew the saltire would be used in Tenerife. I also found an old Harley 1950.s model in a hotel lobby just mad what you can find whilst mooching about .buena salud ambos : )
I hope so- seeing old vehicle actually on the street- nothing more exciting than that!🙂👌🏻👌🏻
If you ever come back to La Laguna, you should visit Santo Domingo Church, where you can see the tomb of a real corsair, Amaro Pargo, a famous and interesting historical figure from La Laguna. The tombstone has even the skull and the cross bones on it. I'm sure you'll find it very unique.
That's a very nice city, I've gone even further on a rented scooter - to the northernmost city of Tenerife - Chamorga. The views on the way are just spectacular. I recommend going there by bike.
New Sunday morning routine settle down nice cup of tea and watch another great Vlog from Freddie & Monica , one thing that concerns me Freddie does Monica have the same riding kit ! roll on Wednesday for next vlog.
Thanks very much David!
Monika does end up pinching a lot of my gear!😆
I just discovered your channel and I love it. I'm from Gran Canaria and my father is a mechanic that specialises in restoring antique and classic motorbikes and cars. We have restored a lot of Triumphs, BMW, Bultaco, Guzzi... He would love your channel but he doesn't speak English 😆😅
What a beautiful place never been there
Very good. Thank you for showing La Laguna. Looks really interesting. See you around.
Excellent Freddie, keep em coming
hi Freddie! you were walking close to my childhood house in Calle carrera 7:59 Great Video !!!
Bonito video. Me ha encantado. Gracias, thanks.
Cake and coffee ☕️😂. Good one, I’m in😉.
Good lineup in that first motorcycle parking, I used to own a CB500 of that era myself, a 1999 S model with the half-fairing, and I also owned a K9 Vstrom 650 of the same era as that blue one. The Strom remains to this day the most comfortable bike I've ever ridden - big wide, well padded seat, soft pliant suspension for the bumps, and loads of leg room. Bit of a boat if you hustled on too much but amazing for touring, and mine was the GT model with the handguards and official colour-matched panniers and topbox. You can't go wrong.
I LOVE these simple old Japanese bikes- built to last, and built to be used every day!🖤💪🏼
Loving the Canarian episodes, thank you both for sharing.
Thanks Stuart!
"The Department for Transport said the changes were made to "signify the beginning of a new chapter for the UK" and was a "reassertion of our independence from the EU". " (iTV)
Very very interesting- thank you for this!!
Yes, it's to recognise that we are the United kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, (UK) not just Great Britain (GB).
Love your videos and takes me back to touring with my husband on his Honda Gold Wing. Please can we see more of Monika she is very pretty..
The show begins already and I am late for show😄😍😍😍
😆😆
Freddie and Monika, you have done it again! Thank you for another great video! The content is great, Freddie’s delivery is so inviting and informative, and Monika’s camera work, editing, and soundtrack choices get better with each vlog. And I am ALWAYS waiting for the cake-and-coffee destination!
Tenerife is so beautiful and interesting! The colors and landscapes are amazing.
I sincerely very much look forward to my Sunday morning coffee and a new video. You never disappoint. Thank you!
Thank you so much Marc, that means a lot!🙂
Another enjoyable relaxing vlog Freddie. The weather is so perfect for motorcycle touring.
Why isn't the channel called Freddie & Monica? Seems a bit unfair to me as Monica is doing her fair share of the work.
A very good point- Monika does over 50% in reality. We’ll have a think about it, thanks🙂
I absolutely love your zest for life you have a wonderful way of presenting your video’s keep it up well done 👍
welcome to my city mate!! I hope you enjoy it!
Freddie, as usual good blog still following you on your tour. Keep going 💪
Your videos popped up on my feed a few days ago. Lovely stuff! I am really enjoying them. Your enthusiasm, Freddie, for bikes, cars, coffee, cake, beaches, etc., is refreshing in these challenging times. Nice work both of you :)
Monika is so resourceful!
Excellent video. Great facts about La Laguna. I was first in Tenerife in 1989. I wondered why the Scottish flag of St Andrew was everywhere. Then I found it it was the flag of Tenerife. In so doing I read something about Nelsons Navy being defeated in a Naval Battle off Santa Cruz. Prisoners being paraded through the streets of Santa Cruz or La Laguna. I’m sure you will find out.
Thanks for the great video.
That royal Enfield was made last week in India 😂👍

Yet another excellent enjoyable video 👍
Thanks Henry!
First time watching, love it! Music is great too. Look forward to catching up with all your vlogs.

The north of Tenerife is in my opinion much nicer than the south. I love La Laguna but try Puerto de la Cruz and the capital Santa Cruz. I am old & too ill to travel now but I love watching your films about Tenerife as it reminds me of my many visits in the past.
Another great vlog you two. Sooo jealous 👍
You should start making merch with “Super” printed on them 🤣 but another amazing video man 👌🏼

Freddie, Love the channel - I've been around for a while, but wanted to say congrats on 20k subscribers.
Looking forward to seeing more of the real Tenerife, so when I make my bike trip from Huelva, (I spend a few months a year there), I have my routes sorted :-)
Keep up the excellent work.

Loving your Tenerife vids. La Laguna is our go to place to stay when when we visit Tenerife due to the cooler temps. We are lucky to stay in an amazing colonial town house. I normally rent a Royal Enfield 650 twin when there too. You'll see some Tenerife vids on my channel
