One theme of the film is that modern machines are dangerous, a foreshadow of the future. Ginger dies because she is dancing with her headphones on and can’t hear what is going on. The Terminator finds out Sarah is still alive because of her answering machine. The Terminator finds out where Sarah is located because he imitates her mother’s voice over the phone. Also, realize that John Connor, savior of humanity, has the initials J.C. Actress Linda Hamilton has an identical twin who appears in T2, and James Cameron married her after he divorced Gale Anne Hurd.

To submit to your request of cool shit about this movie: Arnie originally auditioned for the role of "Kyle Reese". His agent was looking for heroic roles to trade in on his ironman physique, a la CONAN THE BARBARIAN. He was turned down.
However, even though the Terminator role was originally conceived for a more regular physique (and American accent), Cameron liked Arnie's enthusiasm and insights when he was auditioning for "Kyle".
Against his own parameters, Cameron pushed for Schwarzenegger to be the Terminator.
And thus a franchise and a directorial career were born. And, so too, was the iconic career of Arnold Schwarzenegger catapulted from cult to mainstream. All because Arnold failed to land the role of the hero.
Enjoy TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY. It's one of the greatest sequels, greatest science fiction movies, greatest blockbusters, and greatest action movies of all time.

To me this movie was a story told in three parts within the movie. First part was Sarah being a regular woman just trying to make it as a waitress and didn’t have a care in the world. 2nd part was her being scared of two things at first, 1 was Kyle because he was initially rough with her and she didn’t understand at first why anyone would want to harm her. The second thing was her not wanting anything to do with being the legend that birth the world’s savior. The third part was her acceptance of the fate and when she slept with Kyle at the hotel, it in my opinion had everything come full circle for her to be a badass woman that Kyle heard about. I feel though he got to experience a bit of it towards the end when they were in the factory and she said quote “on your feet soldier, on your feet”.

That scene where Schwarzenegger's leather jacket is "smoking" from fire, the film crew used real acid to make that effect. The crew would put a few drops of acid on Schwarzenegger's shoulders between film takes. Arnold could feel the acid burning his shoulders but he was a trooper. Also, the scene when Arnold is driving a car, his eyes would move from left to right and THEN his head would swivel to follow the direction. There was a slight delay. Arnold came up with that idea on set.

Fortunately it may have freaked out people who are now in the senior leadership of the US military. I’ve heard that quite often the thought of making/deploying fully autonomous drones to the battlefield is considered. But the Pentagon leaders so far always vote it down.
They always vote for weapons system with a human being in charge of the final kill decision. They refer to this philosophical empasse as The Terminator Conundrum.

First off LOVE the reaction! I hit subscribe within 5 mins! Your comments made me laugh and smile.
I was 14 when this film came out and it is easily one of my top 5 favourite films. One of the most iconic movies of the 1980s. Arnold would have a heavy influence on my life-- I got into working out and competitive bodybuilding as I wanted to pattern my life after his. And while The Terminator was the villain in this film, a strange thing happened when the film hit the theatres in '84- audiences were cheering for Arnold... Especially during the police station shootout!
Arnold was asked about the phenomenon in an interview and why people would "cheer for the bad guy." His answer was that at one time or another we all would like to be a Terminator for a day and "get the job done."
Here's a tidbit of trivia--- when Kyle Reese is telling the police psychologist about the future, he says he was a soldier fighting the machines with the 132nd from (the years) "21" to "27"...
Which would mean he started fighting in the year 2021!
Also pleasantly surprised that you have watched the Sarah Connor Chronicles from 2008- I had a lot of love for that series and hated that they cancelled it on a cliffhanger.
Glad you're going to watch Terminator 2- I would recommend Commando (Arnold's next movie after The Terminator), Predator and True Lies.

34:36 there’s an extended scene that was on DVD features showing Sarah being loaded into the ambulance at the end, and as it drives off the camera pulls back showing the exterior of the building, and the company name CYBERDYNE...
One of the best twists that a good time travel story gives in the cyclical nature of time and the “self fulfilling prophecy”...Sarah comments at the end “if you don’t send Kyle you can never be”
I discovered your channel thanks to galaxy quest showing up in recommended, and can see you’ve already seen number two...but when Sarah is interviewed in the hospital “you don’t believe the company covered it up?” “No, why would they”
Cuts to the laboratory...the self fulfilling prophecy of it had to be THAT building they ran into???
In the extended ending we also see a couple of the factory workers have been called in (supervisors or managers), and they find some of the shrapnel, noting how advanced it is compared to “current tech”, even commenting “jap stuff maybe?” And a cop tells them not to touch anything as it may be evidence...

So glad you decided to watch this movie! This is peak-80's sci-fi, horror, action classic. Right up there with The Thing, for sure. If you liked this movie, I would highly recommend that you need to watch Alien, Aliens(another James Cameron film right there), and Robocop. I don't know if you've already seen any of those films yet, but if you haven't, they are all must-watches. The gold standard for films of this era. Obviously, you have to watch Terminator 2 now also. If you loved Linda Hamilton in this move, oh man, just wait till you see her in Terminator 2. She is next-level incomparable badass.
I love this movie so much. It's just so dirty and scrappy and raw. It's got that wonderful sheen of 80's grime all over it. And yeah, the special effects are plenty dated and a lot of it looks pretty silly today, like the weird Arnold puppet heads and the stop motion stuff, but it's all made with this wonderful sincerity. You can really tell that they're trying to squeeze every last drop of creativity and value out of their limited budget, and just trying to make the most awesome thing possible.
And of course you gotta mention Arnold! He was born to play this role. He may look like a human tank, and it's funny that an assassin robot has a thick Austrian accent for some reason, but he is so good as just this dead-eyed, soulless killing machine.
Also, a bit of trivia: James Cameron was apparently inspired to make this movie from a dream he had, where a skeleton was crawling out of a fire and chasing him. That definitely exactly describes the entire last scene of this movie. :P

Fun facts about Gale Ann Hurd's involvement in this picture. She bought Cameron's script for this movie for a mere $1.00, with the condition being that only Cameron could direct, and only Hurd could produce, if a studio decided they were interested in giving this project the greenlight. The two had already befriended earlier as respective up-and-comers, and would even be married for a few years. Also, Hurd's screenwriting credit for this film was technically only in the form of suggested amendments to account for how guerilla this production was going to be, as producers are basically required to do anyway. So, despite not really writing much of anything in the script, her name was added to the screenwriting credit, supposedly, only to solidify the impression that this was be their project to make together, and thus convince execs that the two would be director and producer, respectively. I'm sure the resulting royalties didn't hurt either. Of course, Hurd does deserve a ton of credit for her ingenuity in ensuring that they didn't go overbudget, but still pulled off the scope and spectacle that Cameron had in mind, considering that this film was produced dirt cheap, as far as effects-heavy thriller movies go, even for the time.

I mean you can tell in some places, but I chalked it up to the time more than anything. Even the "less expensive" looking aspects are so specific in their intent that they work perfectly in my opinion. Loving this movie more the more I find out about it!

    • @moviemaestro800
      @moviemaestro800 3 года назад +3

Rather ironically, Terminator 2 would go down in history as the most expensive movie ever produced, up until that time; a record that James Cameron's subsequent two films would both break. That was why many predicted that Titanic would be a massive flop, when all the gossip about going way overbudget and overschedule made the film seem doomed to never make a profit for the studio. And then, it became the first ever movie to gross over a billion US dollars.

A huge pet peeve of mine in movies is when cops are useless or don’t exist at all (why does no one call cops in these movies!?) and this movie defies the trope. The LAPD immediately picks up on the fact that the killer is using the phone book and use the news media to warn her that she’s targeted. They come up with plausible (albeit wrong) explanations for his supernatural powers (body armor and PCP) and treat Kyle as a psychotic case, not a criminal one. And when the Terminator busts in; they immediately break out assault rifles and heroically try to protect Sarah.

In the novel it’s mentioned that during the police station shootout some of the Terminator kills were not done via line of sight.
Any person the Terminator sees for a few seconds gets actively tracked as a potential target. So even if you duck behind a wall, it will simply shoot towards a statistically probable location.

For something with perfect aim, he sure misses his target a lot.

This is my favorite one. Most people choose the 2nd over the 1st but I think the first has a better story.

Great movie. The photograph at the end always tears me up inside: a brilliant piece of plotting and a hopelessly romantic touch to what was essentially a low-budget action movie. The sequel is just as good, if five times the size of the original, and if you liked Linda Hamilton's performance here, you won't believe how far she goes emotionally in Terminator 2.

I love your stuff, and would love to talk with you more, especially if it came down to what you were planning to watch in the near future. Wow, I am impressed. The first movie reaction where I see someone pick up on things, like why the terminator lost the eyebrows or why the resistance base have dogs at the door. Finally someone with brains! :D Good reaction. See you at your reaction of T2 :P

Couple fun facts. 1) The Lt. says to Sarah that they have 30 cops in the building. If you count the number of times the Terminator opens fire, both on screen, and just us hearing gun fire in the distance, the number comes to 30.
    2) The Terminator puppet from the end fight was actually made of steel. This was because of a miscommunication with the props department. The intent was to make it of lighter materials, and paint it chrome. When it came back made of steel, it took 4 men to lift. Not a good thing when this film, being very low budget, was often shot without the proper permits. So it was far from ideal when they had an 800 pound prop and had to film quickly, then split before the cops showed up.

Those poor 30 🥴. I love the precision of detail!!!
and Oh my GOD! that is honestly amazing that they created an 800lb steel build of that robot. I would be fighting tooth and nail to be the one that got to take it home from set 😂
