  • Looking at Fujitsu's ultra micro PC laptop tablet convertible and doing an upgrade to SSD. The Fujitsu Lifebook u810 (u1010) UMPC from 2007 when netbooks were first entering the market, the u810 was already available. It was more expensive and smaller than netbooks but had a second generation Intel Atom CPU making it not the fastest UMPC available.

      Thank you for letting me know. I have added both Lifebook and UMPC to the title. As well as the model numbers to the title. I have also learned that having had these terms in the description may not have been effective enough for being prominent in search results. Hopefully this helps others with finding this. I apologise for not knowing about these better search term optimizations sooner.

    I'd love modern manufacturers to have as much imagination as they used to have! With this form factor today it could be actually kinda powerful PC!
    The only possibility today is a tablet with a keyboard I think.

      Today you can choose from a laptop, a tablet or a laptop that turns into a tablet. But they're all indistinguishable from each other, and they only come in a few sizes. There are no umpcs, no netbooks, no notebooks, just medium and large sized laptops and medium sized tablets.

    I had some core 2 duo era, mini pci-e mounted ssd (nope, no mSATA, it predates mSATA) but I couldn't really run it, it was proprietary tech and needed specific motherboards, by googling the memory module model I found out it was 2GB.
    The build quality of these old siemens and later on fujitsu-siemens notebooks was really good, it's a pitty they no longer make notebooks.

    i would really like to see you attempt an NVME modding of this netbook. i have pata zif updated the sony ux-50 model with a samsung 1tb 840 before and its benchmarks were absolute trash between multiple zif adapters. you can get wayy faster speeds using clover bootloader and nvme. its just bios limitations\challenges. compared to the asus eepc and pci-e slot to msata adapter with bios unlock rom undoing compatibility mode and setting ahci in its controller options killed those trash zif adapters. only good for installing cheap extra storage unfortunately . also would love you to do a video installing the unlocked firmware on some of your devices, i believe your vaio micro pc 2006+ handheld is compatible with the unlocked bios which you could use to boost the performance a ton especially installing gaming video drivers like chell x64 on windows 7+ etc

      they have bios firmware that is unlocked that you can download. bios-mods forums have an available versions that work on most of the VGN-UX handhelds just not the ux50 which i was hella bummed they didn't make one for it. those bios firmware's are a must for old hardware. you flashing those nokias is more challenging. its only challenging to do your own bios unlock of a laptop that hasn't been done before....also for record the very common HP DV6000-9000 series from 2008is era also have a common easy to flash insyde bios mod that makes em really nice old laptops to use. the ones speaking of were the infamous black plastic lemon hps that came with vista@@JanusCycle

      would be interesting to see GPU driver tests on android, i've installed android on an old acer aspire one netbook way back when, when remix OS was still new and current. was an older model with first gen atom and sata 1 ports on it. with a samsung 840 pro SSD with 256gb of storage or so 2gbs of ram and it ran basic apps somewhat ok. i could stream movies from plex at the lowest graphics quality only its speakers were amazing compared to models made after. they have intel 945 or 950GMA and unfortunately the neutered graphics driver is what your stuck with when you run linux. windows performed much better using graphics driver mods like chell. i can't remember which graphics drive mod this one used they had different ones for different old intel GPUS. biggest flop with these old netbooks was the intel GMA trash gpus and having no hardware T&L functions and a wide chunk of features disabled having to run GMA Booster to get the clock to 400mhz and run unlocked bios to allocate a large chunk of your precious 2gb ram to the graphics card amongst sata mode being enabled in bios. i feel like with newer android OS versions would be too demanding without hacking the hardware a bit @@JanusCycle

    I put a 256 gb ssd with the adaptador and not work or detected in any side, any advice ?

    • @JanusCycle
      @JanusCycle  2 года назад +1

      I assume you have an mSATA to ZIF PATA adaptor similar to mine. And your 256Gb SSD is also mSATA. It should work because these all use the common ATA standard, including this Fujitsu model.
      It's possible your adaptor can't handle a 256Gb sized SSD. I don't have much to back that claim up except a thought in my head. Testing would need a smaller mSATA SSD to be sure. And my gut feelings are sometimes very wrong.

      @randt0l123 10 месяцев назад

      some device bios are very picky with those adapters i recall having problems with the sony vaio ux50 and especially the oqo model 2. was a major pain with some devices because of the zif cable not being perfectly in place. likely its the zif cable but like JC said they use all common ATA standard. i successfully used a 1tb samsung 840 msata across different devices with zif adapters including IDE laptop pin standards which the sony PCG XG-500 registered 938/9 or something like that GB i had to format the partition less then the max because the bios or hardware limitation couldn't read that far ahead but usually it will be detected despite capacity
