Hi, Dasu here^^ I made this comeback song because of my 1-year music burnout. If you're a long-time listener or a new fan, my music is made in reference to my life experiences, so not only are they 100% original, but they're somewhat my real experiences creatively mixed with my original novel. "Pitumputpitongputingtupa" refers as the "seventy-seven white lamb's good deeds" which was referenced from a short scene in the novel (redacted to avoid spoilers). This comeback song is also a huge reference to multiple self-reflection of the many changes that happened in my life because I lived longer than I expected (I am dissing my past self). It's a mirror of myself, carrying longtime achievements of my past, but I have lived long enough to see that the present me no longer resonates with who I once was. I would like to stay true to my roots and considered my usual music genre as an homage to the dead "me". Shio and Egue are my treasured original characters, and I see some personalities of myself through them. They fight a lot, just like how I fight myself-- unforgiving, unsatisfied with my own capabilities, but I keep on making art as a way to understand the world around me more. That's how I view my life in third person, and how I interpret my own existence in this world. This is how I choose to convey my feelings through art and music. It may not be the same experiences as a listener, but I wouldn't mind any kind of interpretation at all. I feel eternally grateful that people like my music enough to spark some change in them, yet I want everyone to know that there is extreme pain creating them too. I treat my discography like a mausoleum- it's like taking a trip to the grave, bringing the dead to rest. It's poetic for me writing my songs and going over the hurtful things in my life like therapy, dissecting it to understand, letting them rest, and growing from it. The production process fills me with joy: I love crafting my own rap & lyrics, spending all my time in the world making music, the long days and restless nights of producing every single scene in the MV exactly how I pictured it in my mind. The real achievement for me is being lost in the process, being vulnerable yet confident enough to tell the world how it treats me, through my creations. It was also my first time recording with extreme emotion: during the recording of my voice acting in the rap part of the song, I tried to think of what I would say to myself out of frustration, and what would I say to "god" for making me experience many unbearable experiences in life enough for me to hate myself in a way to resent living. As always, I could've done everything better, but I wouldn't have done it any other way than this. I want to deliver a message, and not perfection to please everyone. I have accepted and loved myself in many ways, I stopped drinking and I do not self harm anymore, and I always feels that I have to do better and go beyond each time I create more music and art. I am in a much better place, and I am lucky to choose to live long enough to see my creations no longer made under such destructive state compared to the past. You are free to interpret my songs fitting to you, as long as it makes your living worthwhile, happy or not. It is still foreign to me to "love living", but over the years I have learned how to shut those thoughts down every single day. I don't really care how long it takes me to make stuff, I know and trust myself enough that I'll be able to do it 🙌 Find your void, always. xoxo

it's awesome to see the interplay of 3 languages here, tagalog partially deriving from spanish as spanish does to latin. it's like seeing past selves of language over the actual content of the song being about past and present selves. tuning a different language than usual must've been challenging and fun. on another note, glad to see you coming out of a hiatus stronger than ever. i admire your commitment. and love your music!!!
I personally don't know if the metaphor is entirely solid here, since while castellano, like all Romance languages, did descend from Vulgar Latin, Tagalog is not at all related to castellano aside from the language contact that caused loanwords to enter Tagalog (and very few into castellano). Furthermore, there are some hypotheses I've read that asserts that Tagalog may have branched off from its proto-language earlier than castellano did from Vulgar Latin. Nonetheless, I do concur that the new style is very interesting! Now I wonder if there are plans for a song like this using other Philippine languages, similar to what the band Alamat does.

If it did it’d be considered a romance language (French, Italian, Spanish) but it is not because at the end of the day it is derived from Austronesian languages. It is the Spanish that adjusted in the Philippine languages. Tagalog simply took in Spanish loan words, tweaked it and incorporated it in a unique way.

The themes of duality and selfhood portrayed with cain and abel was a super cool touch as well, plus the spoken prayer chorus--just very polished & high quality all around!

I don't usually do comments under music video but Dasu's music follow my since 2019, thanks to a friend, and those songs were always a refuge for me when I were sad, and couldn't express my emotions to anyone, even to my family. Even if I didn't understand well the meanings of those songs because I'm french, I had the impression that those songs were speaking to me, in more ways than I could imagine the first time.
