  • In this episode of Factory Fridays, we visit the Front Runner Boats manufacturing facility in Green Cove Springs, Florida. Host Marilyn DeMartini joins company co-founder Phillip Mahn for an in-depth tour of the boat brand's boat building processes and techniques. The company began as a partnership between two fishing buddies - Mahn and Mark Lacovara. At first they were just buying, fixing and selling boats, prior to them launching Front Runner. Both co-founders are fathers, fishermen and avid boaters and have built a team of passionate boat builders who take pride in creating boats that set the bar for the offshore industry. People that take the sport of blue water fishing seriously will appreciate Front Runner's serious center console fishing boats.
The brand's new 36’ 39’ and 47’ “Game Boats”, are all about setting a higher standard. One of the most important aspects of any fine offshore fishing vessel, Front Runner hulls were designed for maximum displacement, an extremely smooth ride, and built rigorous use. Designed by Erwin Gerards, Front Runner worked to create a unique Proud Bow paired with a stepped hull-offering that classic Florida sportfish feel. Erwin is responsible for some of the most notable hull designs in the industry, working with the likes of Garlington, Gamefisherman, L&H, Maverick, and Rybovich-amongst others. Front Runner has partnered with Mercury Marine to provide reliable, high-performing power solutions including configurations for several different models of Mercury Motors in twin, triple, and quad setups.

I worked for Proline years ago. Great quality vessels. In 1993 they were innovating and pumping soooooooo many boats out. And always innovating. Even though they are high production they're highest quality production boats I have built. We threw away 1 hull 2 liners and a molded stringer part. Ther liners prereleased. The manager messed up the very first one piece stringer using undied catalyst and if I remember correctly he ran out of catalyst half way thru chopping it.😆. If a hull/part prerelease ed it went into the trash.
