Excellent video. I'm going to change out my valve covers this weekend due to some oil leaks. My laptop will be in the garage with me tuned to your video!! Keep up the great work.
The project went very well except for the part where I didn't mark the rear coils correctly. I had to take the intake off again but no big deal. No more oil leak and she runs great with the new plugs. Thanks for the help!!
This whole series rocked. Did it to my 2007 Quest. Didn't do spark plugs because they were relatively new. Took about 7 hours, but I am definitely an amateur.
Hey it took me 2 days bc i kept getting aggravated as hell at the stuck valve cover so dont feel bad but we bout to pull outta the drive now to see if all the issues stopped!!
Love your videos. Detailed how to. I wish you had one for replacing the timing chain on the Quest. Used your videos to get the valve cover off so I can check TDC.
By far the best video I have seen on how to do the job thanks thankyou so much for all the info... I fallow step by step and everything came out great thanks!!!
thank you. one thing i think you should add is i believe you are supposed to LOOSEN the valve cover bolts in a special order also. Two of my rear valve cover bolts broke off when i was just trying to LOOSEN them!! I found out later that maybe you are supposed to go in a certain order. It took me days to drill out the broken bolts, and it doesn't look pretty either. I replaced the 2 broken ones with nuts and bolts from the hardware store.
+Tom H The Nissan service manual do have a sequence to remove the bolts, and I did not follow it because the engine was cold and the valve cover was to be replaced. With your situation, not sure if it was replaced before by someone else and perhaps it was over tightened before. The torque spec for them should not have broken the bolts.
+dial2fast i thought it was weird to break while loosening. bad luck. You're video was the by far the best, thank you. I hope to have quicker success on my dodge ram valve covers soon.
I really just wanted to replace the spark plugs, but can't seem to find to find much on the net about it... And I can't even figure out where they are! Lol! After seeing your video, I was hoping that I wouldn't have to disassemble the entire window cowl, wiper motors, etc ... Thanks for your quick reply!
SOME TIPS: 1. the gasket around the plugs was very snug in my Apex-branded valve covers such that they wouldn't seat; I wiped the gaskets with a little clean motor oil and they slid right now. 2. the valve cover gasket itself tended to fall out of the groove in the cover, especially on the side that was the last to go in. Using a trick I learned on my Saab, I put a small (2-3mm) dap of RTV in the channel at the corners and near the bolt holes, then pushed the gasket into the RTV. Held just fine.
First of all, thank you so much for doing this… You are an incredibly patient and generous person! I just had a quick question… I have a 2001 Infiniti QX -4 with the 3.5 V6 engine… Is this the same basic process? Thanks again! - Jeff in Charleston, SC
From what I can find on the net, your 01 QX4 has a different engine layout. The steps will not be the same. Maybe someone else on youtube have a video on it. Good luck!
Good videos. It would have been optimum if you showed us the backside of that intake plenum (just for perspective of where things went). Thanks for posting.
I am in the midst of doing this job on an '06 quest with 184k. The Nissan valve covers are no longer $40...they're closer to $200. I purchased the Apex brand from rockauto, and at least the front cover went on just fine.
shoot, I thought the 2007 Nissan Altima valve cover replacement was bad(removing bracket to engine mount) this takes the cake. Kia Spectra 2000 was just as simple as removing the all the bolts from uptop, no obstructions whatsoever. Seems like the newer the car the worse it gets...
I just cant get enough of your videos, thanks for publishing them. I have an 05 murano and from the work i have done on it it looks like the same engine and set up. Im curious on how you diagnosed posterior valve cover to be the source of the leak. My car is loosing oil and i dont have blue smoke or any smoke nor do i have a visible drip anywhere. Thank you in advance
+Marsel Cuka I found out my rear valve cover is leaking because of the oil burning smell as the oil drips on the rear header exhaust pipe. There weren't any smoke but just burning smell.
Hi my husband wants to know if there's anyway to replace the rings of the spark plugs tubs? He said if is necessary to buy the whole thing, we will apreciate your help thanks
The few hours i spent on the net looking for replacement spark plug oring came up empty handed. Since this job is so involved and for a peace of mind so i dont need to worry about premature leaks, just get the oem valve cover and you are good for the next 100k. Also i spoke to a Nissan mechanic and he said at the dealer, they don't service the valve cover. They replace the whole thing also. One more thing, the new one comes with a new PCV valve with new o ring.
Valve cover was replaced because of the gasket leaking due to age. Common problem on this engine. Also the valve cover has these sealed spark plug oring which you can't replace, so the whole cover needs to be replaced.
Thanks. I am amazed by the amount of work. I appreciate you posting the videos and at least now I don't have to figure it out when it comes down to it. I also appreciate that you mentioned the tools required and where you got them. If my gasket doesn't leak, then I'd be tempted to find find o-rings for rear valve cover (instead of removing and replacing the whole thing)....hopefully same o-ring as front valve cover. I am more than willing to modify my vehicles for future maintenance (or hot rodding for that matter:), but I don't see much where I would swap a bolt for a stud, or a stud for a bolt, or cut and weld a different bracket. I would be tempted to lengthen a few of those wiring leads though. Great job! Good thing these plugs last 100K miles.
hey man, my valve cover is leaking, but can I just replace the gasket or do I have to replace the valve cover as well. The valve cover here costs about 200 bucks. Thanks again for your videos.
how do you get the valve cover separated from the breather tube without breaking the plastic nipple everytime I try to remove these hoses they break off. This is the breather tube that goes from valve cover develop cover
If you are doing the spark plug service, then most likely your engine has 90,000+ miles and the gasket on the valve cover is old and possibly starting to crack. So it's best you replace it or else you might have engine oil leak.
Hello, another question. Do you have any recommendations for cheaper, inexpensive torque wrenches for this job? I have found Harbor Freight(Pittsburgh), Tekton, and Tacklife torque wrenches in my budget. However, I have not ready many good reviews especially for the purpose of using 12-18 ft-lbs
It's probably a small leak from the spark plug tube seal that's on the valve cover. You should replace the valve cover which comes with the rubber seal molded into it.
Thank you for a great 3 part video! Awesome!!! I am about to embark on a spark plug change on my 2004 3.5 maxima. I noticed in some videos people are no taking off the back part of the plenum. Is that the case? There less I have to do on this the better! :)
My iniitial approach was also to take as little off as possible, but what you saw in my video is what I had to take off to get to it. The throttle body also has coolant lines running to it making it hard not to separate the the pieces. If you do remove the coolant lines, then it might be possible to remove it as one piece, but you will have to bleed your coolant system afterwards.
Well, I was able to get a new head cover and gasket on. Was tightening everything down and broke a bolt!! Err! Am I screwed? Can I leave it and still hope for no leaks? All the other bolts are good! Thanks!
Hi what is the part number for the valve cover? is it 13264-7Y010 (front) or 13264-7Y000 (rear) I assume it is the rear but just to make sure before i make a order
13264-7Y000 (Cover Assy-Valve) is for the back one by the firewall, and that's the one I changed in the video. I will assume your other part number is for the front as I did not buy that one.
VVSH07E I have not changed the front one and because the front one is so easy to get to, I will change it if needed. The back one is first to go because of more heat with so much cramped at the back. The gasket that I pulled out on that back gasket was really hard and rubbery anymore. I also spoke to a Nissan mechanic and he said the back one is the one they always replace.
dial2fast thank you so much for all this info! I couldn't do this by my self or would have took me forever to educate myself from internet and forums to do this at home. Again thank you for the video and reply!
VVSH07E I appreciate the fact that you truly understand how much research involved to do such a job and then video record the procedure. It's viewers like you that motivate me to do more videos. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this knowledge with the rest of us. i have a 2005 Quest with over 140k miles and it still has the original spark plugs. i was contemplating doing this job myself because of my lack of trust dealing with the dealerships service dept. (i have heard that they sometimes only change out the front three because of the amount of work involved). I have purchased NGK LFR5AIX-11 #4469 Iridium-ix. This are different from what you recommended. Can you advice me if i should be concerned. Thank you
The 05 Quest also comes from the factory with NGK Platinum PLFR5A-11 plugs. I am not sure what is the difference with the one you got but it's best to stick with what the manufacturer use.
A word to the wise. I'm still wrestling with this 05 quest and trying to torque the valve covers down now. I'm on my second (this one was brand new) AZ loaner torque wrench trying to do 17" inch pounds with the fear of breaking the bolt head off....i'm just gonna go by "that should be tight enough" now...There is no way i could go 4X that much. In hindsight i would pay 12 million Dollars to have someone else do the repairs and when they finished and when they finish Gift them the Vehicle as a tip...
Smooth Operator this I think I’m a pay someone to do lol but the bank 1 o2 sensor is less complicated I found a good video here on RUclips I recently replaced bank 1 and bank 2 took me about a hour
Excellent video. I'm going to change out my valve covers this weekend due to some oil leaks. My laptop will be in the garage with me tuned to your video!! Keep up the great work.
Hope everything goes well for you. Leave a comment on how it turns out. Thanks!

RD Bennett Very good to hear that you got it fixed and able to save some money instead of taking it to a shop.

Here you go, it's same as Pathfinder: www.nicoclub.com/archives/how-to-replace-spark-plugs-vq35de-pathfinder-qx4.html
Coil/ valve cover O rings are available from rock auto

Crazy tight spaces! …but thank you so much for the guidance!
Did you not have to use a new EGR gasket during the repair? Great video and thank you for taking the time to video it.
Good videos. It would have been optimum if you showed us the backside of that intake plenum (just for perspective of where things went). Thanks for posting.
Yes, I agree. Thanks for your comment!
Please tell how did you separate the front & the rear half of the intake manifold after removing the 4 -12 mm bolts?
im doing this same exact car have majority of it off tomorrow ill be tackling the intake, ill post a video as well.
corolla customz where is your video?
Did the video and went to post it every file was corrupted 😔

It’s unfortunate timing that now you can get these grommets on amazon
Thanks for the wonderful videos. Why was the valve cover replaced? Did I miss something along the way?
Valve cover was replaced because of the gasket leaking due to age. Common problem on this engine. Also the valve cover has these sealed spark plug oring which you can't replace, so the whole cover needs to be replaced.

@@silvernblackattach great info..I need to remember that.
Hey Brother i love your educational videos. Do you also have a shop to work on customer vehicles?
What happens if u just replaced the gasket for the valve cover. Will it hold
hey man, my valve cover is leaking, but can I just replace the gasket or do I have to replace the valve cover as well. The valve cover here costs about 200 bucks. Thanks again for your videos.
If my spark plugs are that old can I reuse them or would I need to buy some new ones??
how do you get the valve cover separated from the breather tube without breaking the plastic nipple everytime I try to remove these hoses they break off. This is the breather tube that goes from valve cover develop cover

can you please tell me which one is spark plugs number 5?
standing in front of the vehicle from back left to right 1,3,5 front left to right 2,4,6
Could you change the plugs without removing the intake manifold
only the ones in the front, when i go the back ones i need to removed the intake because its on top of the coils
Spark plug replacement only, how many hours does the job call for?
Do it yourself, set aside 5-6 hours is it's your first time.
Hello, is their a specific foot-pound for the spark plugs or by hand is good?
For brand new NGK plugs, it's 18 ft-lbs (no anti-seize compound on thread). The torque is different for plugs that were removed and reinstall.
dial2fast ok. Thank you, again.

Hey dial, what if there is a little bit of oil next to the coil pack? Is that an indication of a bad coil pack?
It's probably a small leak from the spark plug tube seal that's on the valve cover. You should replace the valve cover which comes with the rubber seal molded into it.
