no you can put it on over chips but not on the hood or fenders anything plastic like a bumper or mirrors are ok because they wont rust just make sure its perfect clean first
Excellent video, I did it, it came out really good, but what you do when you get water bubbles trapped on the middle?
If they are under 1/8", they will go away in time. Ideally, you will catch them while the material is still wet and you can pull the material up to where the bubbles are at, spray under the material again, and re squeegee it down.

would you use a hook blade utility knife to cut to keep sharp stuff away from hoood
randomrazr you certainly could use a hook blade, and that’s not a bad idea; however, we feel the Olfa knife is really the best utility knife to use-it’s just more versatile.
Can you apply the film onto the backs of side mirrors, or would you need something custom cut or shaped for that?

Could have made peeling the liner a lot easier if you just put the material on the hood liner side up, peeled it, and flipped it.
Why not use exacto knife instead of scissors to cut it like every vinyl wrappers?
It could certainly be cut with a razor blade. Scissors are a good option for individuals with less experience.

Shouldn't you clean the wax/polish off first?
Daved De Kiesby no, you do not want to do that. Among other things, the Alcohol and water solution actually helps remove Wax from the vehicle so that the paint protection film adheres properly
can you wrap all the hood with this PPF size or you should buy full size hood ppf ?
Not sure we completely understand your question. If you are asking if an 18" hood strip will stretch all the way up to the windshield, the answer is no. To cover the full hood, you would want a piece that is as big as your whole hood.
So you only do half the hood?
This is a hood strip. While more and more people are choosing to do the full hood, plenty still will just do a hood strip-- it is nearly invisible and covers the areas most prone to rock chips.
What if I wanted to add the clear protection wrap and then add a portion of the hood vinyl wrapped overtop od the area that was clear protected... Is this possible? Will it leave a large line or bump showing where the 3m protective coat is or would it be so small of a overlapping line? Thanks

If you cleaned the car thoroughly and then cleaned it again with the water and alchohol solution, you likely just need to wait for it to tack up a little more and try and squeegee it down again. A ceramic coating and wax can prevent the material for adhering. if you continue to have problems that might be the issue.
if there is a couple of little rock dings on the paint already would it effect putting a film like this on? The the paint have to be perfect to pull this off with no sort of chips.
paint chips should be cleaned with alcohol (as long as fresh chip, minimal rust) and touched up with touch up paint. If there's rust you need to sand it down and repaint. Before applying film.

What are the effects on the paint after being on a few years?
The Paint Protection Film WILL NOT damage your paint. You will be able to remove the film at any time and the paint will look just how it did before you installed it.

We used scissors because it is much more likely that people will have scissors at home over an exacto knife.

Do you have to wash and wax your car before you apply the PPF ? For example if my car is little dirty what steps should i take before applying the film ?
