Thank you so much for your review on some of the food box deliveries available. I found it most interesting and have often wondered what the various food quality, recipes & portions were like, too... It was also helpful hearing comments from other family members. Overall. the learnings as a result were the best!.. Having the whole family decide the weeks menu and the organisation of each meals ingredients separated in the frig in anticipation is a great time saving idea for busy working parents.
Change is good in any family especially when it comes to eating together and enjoying food!.......
Thank you so much for sharing, I enjoyed it and hope you will do more reviews.
I like that you didn't make this a hidden sponsored deal 😊
Here in the US I have been using Blue Apron for over three years. As a single-person household, I order three double-portion meals for $60.00 US so I cook three nights and use the leftovers as second meals. I enjoy cooking a lot and appreciate not having unneeded extra food that would usually spoil. Tip: when the box arrives I sort it into clear plastic boxes that go straight into the fridge .
Thank you for making this vlog. It was a pleasure to hear your discussion about the options available in New Zealand. We also have Hello Fresh in the U.S..
“Noah soaks in the bath like a tea bag for like literally a tea bag” 😂😂😂😂
Love your chat. I'm about to order one of these. I love the recipe cards. Glad you pointed out chicken eat early. Easy to over look the small prin. I like the portion sizes. Love your idea on baskets in the fridge. As I'm living alone it makes life easier to have a plan. It's hard to go from a heditic family life style to been alone. Having people call in during the weekends.
Hope you enjoy :)
So helpful...Helped me decide that I'm going to try My Food Bag first and Hello Fresh next...
Don't forget to use code JENSUB for Hello Fresh to get $50 off :) Enjoy!
I really like your idea of the baskets in the fridge, I'm going to try that too 😊
It's late Friday night and now I'm very hungry after watching this delicious foods. Lol. Loved this long video and seeing what you got and how these meal kits work. So much better to have the recipes inside with the ingredients box. It looks so much fun to make these meals. Thanks for sharing.
Really interesting. I think for us it would be too expensive and we are a bit more adventurous with flavours. I can see how it would be nice not to have to think about dinners. Kudos to you for also having so many substitutions every time and it is tough being the food preparer if you have such picky diners! I think making them choose is the way to go.
28:49 i'm more taken with your nail polish than with the recycling info! :D so lovely!
Thank you, they were Jamberry nail wraps.
This was great fun to watch! We have been using a meal service, Blue Apron, since late November. It's just my husband and I, and they send 3 meals with two portions each for $60 (so $10 each plate). We have enjoyed it because the ingredients and recipes are mostly stuff we would never normally make or order in a restaurant, so it has been cool to experience new recipes from lots of different cultures. We don't always get to all the recipes, though, so sometimes we end up with a backlog. We put the meats in the freezer right away unless we are going to make a meal the night it arrives, so often we could make a recipe the next week if the veggies were still okay (usually they were fine). I really like that they send just the right amount of stuff for each meal and it's all portioned out. We are thinking of trying some other services so this was kind of inspirational. Thanks!
That's a good idea to freeze the meal right away if you might not get to it for a while. One of the things I loved about the meal kits, however, was not having to remember to defrost meat ahead of time!
I really enjoyed that video. It was interesting to see all the different recipes and a lot of the food looked really appetising.
I've recently started a new meal planning system which is working very well for us. It goes like this
Mon - Asian, (something with rice or noodles)
Tues - Pasta night, spaghetti, lazagne etc
Wed - Mexican night, tacos, fajitas etc
Thurs - Irish night, Something involving potatoes
Friday - Takeaway
Sat - Something easy.
Sun - A traditional Sunday dinner, roast, veg etc.
It's working well. There is plenty of variety. I'm not really into cooking so I tend to stick to family favourite recipes that everyone will eat.
Theming the nights is definitely a help with meal planning. What do you do when you have lots of leftovers?
@@AThousandWords we'll use leftovers for lunches next day or I'll pop them in the freezer to use in the future.
Thank you so so so much for this! I also had never heard of the Kai box that you've put the link in for.
Wow! This was so helpful! Thank you! We've been thinking of getting a box, but I just did not know where to start or what to try. I was thinking of the Kai box because we tend to eat vegetarian when we're eating at home, but now I think we might try the hello fresh - it looks so convenient (we both don't have any dietary requirements). It's a bit of a bummer that they have so much packaging, but I will be sure to give them feedback about that!
It's so great that you post things about how stuff works in New Zealand. It is a tiny country (population-wise), but for us that do live here, these experiments are very helpful!
Don't forget to use JENSUBS for $50 off. I'm so glad you find these videos helpful! It was fun to make.
Thanks Jen! We’ve use Hello Fresh and enjoyed it. I’ve stopped my service for the summer since we travel so much.
It's good that you can hop on and off with no lock in. Have a great summer!
Loved this vlog!
I think thkse boxes are nice to try out some dishes that otherwise you wouldnt. Thx Jen your video was very long and detailed.
I have never been so hungry in my entire life while watching a video... lol... tfs 💜💜💜
Where did you get this strip between you stovetop and your benchtop? I’ve been searching for something like this as stuff falling in the gap drives me crazy. Great video :)
It was from one of those catalogues that they drop off, featuring household stuff and products for the elderly. I wouldn't rate them though, they bent and warped with the heat from the stove and we had to chuck them out.
......Noel doesn't like flavor...so funny when you said that! Awesome review Jen. I loved Hello Fresh and Bargain Box. I used to get them alot, however I found I was able to do my shopping for less, however that doesn't mean it wasn't great because it so was! Some of the meal cards I still make! I prefer Hello Fresh over Bargain Box though.
Interesting! Maybe it's to do with what's on the menu that week (I only tried one week of each).
Really it’s an interesting video! Congrats
In Bargain box... how many people can eat by box?. I watched a lot A LOT of food 😂
Loved this video!
Bargain box is under MFB
Hi, I don’t think you have the price correct for bargain box at 3.06. It’s $132.99 for 5 meals for 4 people. Plus $10 delivery
I'm so confused as to how that happened..?! I think you're right, at least that's what the website is saying now. No idea how I made that mistake but thanks for pointing it out.
A Thousand Words love your vids btw, the past few have been really interesting. The online shopping comparison was great, made my first online purchase with Pak n save after that- a good experience and so much cheaper! Thanks so much.
I just can't get over all the extra plastic, packaging, cold packs, all that extra waste, I just couldn't do it. :-(
Someone else who can't have stevia! It made me so crook :(
I used to subscribe to Hello Fresh when we lived in the UK and really loved it. But (as expected) it's just way too expensive in NZ. Their website says it works out at $15.83 per serving and I spend the same on an entire weeks lunch meal prep most weeks! Its a shame as I did enjoy the meals but can't justify it here.
It's a lot cheaper with the $50 discount using my code, if you wanted to give it a try.
@@AThousandWords Thank you!
