Great video! I just started playing iRacing this week with this car and track combo. Sub 1:40 seemed impossible when I started but I got down to low 1:38. It was really fun and I also got my first win on my way out of rookies. :D
low 1:38 in your first week is actually insanely impressive, i still cant get out of the 38s. That last second and a half is worth thousands of irating
@@louisnguyen6038 it feels tough to get quicker for sure, my optimal is 1:37.5 so I have a sub 1.38 in me but I started focusing on this week's GT4 track once I got out of rookies. Hopefully I'm gonna get some good races there this week.
Great stuff! Not enjoyable combo but always the hard ones teach more than the ones that come more naturally. I participated in alien split where P1 qualified 1.36.07 and ran 1.36.2-4 all race with another alien. How is this possible is beyond my understanding 😂
I seriously don’t know why this car is even the rookie car it’s so touchy, I mean it definitely teaches you how to feel the car but I’m sure it discourages a lot of people. Thing can be a death machine especially somewhere like laguna
lol, my oldest iracing video is 4 years old, mx5 on laguna and my last race in rookies. Just watched it now and it was horrible! My fastest was 1.43.6 and I couldn't heel-toe, didn't use engine braking, didn't hit apex, to slow on throttle and so on. Watching your video it's not even comparable 🤣
Been fun watching you run tracks that I raced on for real with everything from production cars to F1 1984 March 821 tunnel car. Laguna especially since my first races there were on the old track which went straight down the hill from the start to where turn 5 is and I was able to get a 1.001.1 official, when under a minute was pretty rare. So for Sim racing it seems like the turn 2/3 complex seems to run different than real life. A wider entry, not a full car width, into 2 would give you a better entry into 3 with a faster exit. Remember if someone is catching you there you braked to soon. Holding the late entry at turn 4 is correct but really hard to do. I think because you don’t seem to get rubber buildup traction in Sim racing . The earlier entry in real life is probably faster due to more buildup traction in real life. Any way hope to get a chance to run with you soon.
Nice race, as always! You're always so smooth... Impressive! Btw, I think you were talking with Crew Cheif but we weren't able to listen anything from it. Maybe some configuration on OBS that had failed.
Hi Dave. Out of interest, what do you have your in car field of view set to? I know it will be different dependant on monitor etc but curious what you have it set at? I think I am a bit zoomed in personally as I only see like half the digital dash. Still learning the ropes and I know it's down to preference but just interested :) Keep up the great videos, love watching your content!
Hey dave you got a track guide for this one :) i did my first ever race and did a 1:43 and cant seem to get the corkscrew i want to get into the thirties
Hi, I'm a new sim racer and already big fan of your channel and track guides. @davecamm May I ask why you (and also other famous sim racers) use the paddles with the MX-5 being a sequential shifter car? You are a seasoned sim racer so clearly it is not a skill issue.
@@davecamyt thought as much haha. If you do have anything else with being local I might be interested. Getting back into rim racing after a few years away
@@ArraisLF What do you think you're doing differently now that you're in the 38s? I feel like I'm trail braking and using the rotation and what fine. I suppose the game's racing line is misleading. I should watch a proper track guide
@@davecamyt Awesome dude yeah that sounds like what I was thinking of just didn't have the right terms. Not at all familiar with streaming setup but yours is top notch! Thanks again for all the excellent race footage!
It was an honour racing you Dave, cheers❤ (Ahmet)
Great racing mate 😁
that was masterclass racing from the 3 of you guys!!! keeping it clean for 9 laps and hard racing... that's the stuff, bravo!!!!

I started at Laguna seca as well. My favorite track.
One of my favorites and one if the hardest for me to get that last 1 second for a push lap.
Great to see top split's average lap time is faster than my best. 🤣 Great drive!
Mx5 are still so fun to race. Slow racing is just nice sometimes.
Other than the fact that they can be a death machine lol
Wooo. First. I don’t love the combo either! Thanks for the content Dave. Really enjoy all the videos/tips. Cheers.
My local track! One of my favorite combos! TCR here is amazing btw. Great race!

Nice drive. I’m just getting into iracing and this is also my first race 😁 see you in 7 years m8
You had two back to back off tracks on lap 1 where all four wheels were off the track but ended up with a 1x.
Yes the second one was a short time after the first so it just counts one 👍
Thats exactly what I started with, Mazda at Laguna Seca. One difference though I didn't get DQ'd in my first race :)

nice looking wheel there
We missed being able to hear your biggest fan, Jim!
It'd be great to see you do a series with a brand new account. Mastering certain cars.

Man, I need to find that old layout on RUclips. I bet that was insane!

Audio issues meant I had to grab the audio from the replay file 🫤
I'm just glad you were already aware of it.
Nice video nonetheless!
Love your work!

I'm on a single and pretty much set at 82 👍
@@davecamyt Ah, good to know thank you Dave. Just got a 49 inch curved and getting used to the FoV settings!
Hi Dave, great video.. I was wondering what overlay that is for the names and rating bottom right..
Its the Racelab overlay. You'll find a link to it in the description 😁
@davecamm great, thankyou mate 🤝
Hey dave you got a track guide for this one :) i did my first ever race and did a 1:43 and cant seem to get the corkscrew i want to get into the thirties
That was clearly a block by the white car before and after contact with wall
personally i'd be lucky to get into the top 10 at laguna seca
Cant beat a bit of MX5
Did you give "Jimbo" a day off? Barely heard from your Crewchief
Audio issues. Had to grab the engine audio from the replay 👍
@@davecamyt still a great battle without CC 👍
I think this was my first experience in actual race too. Not a good combo for a total noob. We couldn’t hear crew chief btw.
