This guy knows what he is doing- followed the directions for a 2010 Tacoma to swap in a refurbished stock radio unit, as the Toyota Tacomas of these years have notoriously crappy sound systems. If you are replacing with a stock radio/stereo, you only have to remove one mounting bracket to pop out the lower assembly that has the emergency lights and clock. Great video!!
Thank you for this detailed walk through. I was nervous about doing this myself but I feel much more confident now. I am sure I will be watching this step by step as I do this myself.
Thank you so much, i followed your video and installed my stereo without any problems, learned a lot just by watching your instructions and your video. Thanks again....
Thank you so very much for posting this video, I just finished installing a new pioneer mph-x370bt in a second hand 2007 Tacoma that I just bought. Thanks to you and Crutchfield it only took me 3 hours to complete and that's good! It helped that I could pause the video, do the install and and go on to the next step. I cannot thank you enough!
Gotta say thanks brother… I wouldn’t have known where to start. Had to file on my mounts (they were set low), but it was a beautiful install for my first! Never thought I could manage that. Still a little confused by the backup camera so gotta do a little more research before I tackle that… thanks again
So behind, thanks for this video. I'll be workin on my truck when the stuff comes in. First time for my Tacoma to have a new stereo in it! The one currently in it has been going bad. Lol
Thanks for the video! Good tutorial. Did not need to pull my weather stripping as "A" pillar popped off easy enough with a wiggle. Much appreciated on saving me time. Highly recommend!
Brother great video as I’m about to pull mine out to add hdmi and parking brake bypass. I have to ask where can I find the long plastic flexible piece to snake the wires and tape to them ? Thanks again.
May I ask - that connector you didn't plug in at the end, does that go to the steering wheel controls and require another harness sold seperately from sony? I'm trying to figure out what exactly it goes to and how to get steering wheel controls to work.
Did you ever figure it out without buying one of those adapters? I have no sex and I was for videos and does it also look like he didn’t connect or plug-in to the big plugs and that’s where I get confused because when you look for them online it will say 16 or 20 pin And I believe he plugs it into a 16 but the big one he left unplugged was a 20 I have the same and it’s hooked up, but I don’t know if I should plug it in or not and I’m gonna bypass the brake by grounding the wire and I hear some people do that or cap it off the ground itmakes sense and from what I heard works out better and safer
I saw someone commented that the harness in the description did not fit the factory connections, how do I find out if my speakers are jbl or not? And also do I just need the harness, and the dash kit? And my own radio and I’m good to go right?
If you disconnect the clock and airbag indicator bar with the battery still connected wont you get an air bag warning light in the dash that only the dealer can reset?
What size driver did you use to remove the hex nuts from the console? The internet keeps telling me 3/8 in but that doesn’t fit. Thank you for the video.
I wish you had went more in depth with the wires we didn’t need to hook back up. I had to search around the internet for those. Other than that, good video. Thanks!
dial2fast I just successfully installed my new Pioneer stereo using your video. Very helpful. The wiring diagrams for Pioneer are not as helpful as the Sony one you used, but it each wire used the same color on the other side, so I got lucky. Thanks again!
+Evandre Molina You will not have steering wheel control after this install. I believe there are aftermarket interface parts that will allow it. You will need to research it.
Did you ever hook up that gen 3 Bluetooth stereo into your 2008 Tacoma?? I’ve got a 2010 Tacoma 6Disc CD am/Fm radio that I need to upgrade to a Bluetooth set up to use my iPhone Xs...hoping it’s not to much work and expense.
i am trying to isntall a mini ipad on my tacoma but also want the stereo do you know if their is enough room for me to push the stereo back so i can can make the mini ipad fit?
A couple years late but did he not connect the two connection because they were only used for the Toyota amp? Have mine all together then saw 4 plugs but same 2 connect on mine
can someone help me, i am thinking in getting a kenwood double din, and it says that it fits on silver dash tacomas. Which mine is black but in the pictures it seems to be the exact same thing, any suggestions?
You need to install another steering wheel interface module to control the aftermarket radio. I am not sure the exact part, but you can check with your local stereo shops for details.
so i tried to use the same wiring harness that was listed in the bio and it didn’t fit my factory stereo harness... only thing i can think of is that i have a jbl factory stereo so maybe the connections are different?? if anyone else has this problem or anything lmk
Great video! Did you know how to take it apart before you started the job or did this completely blind aka just using your general knowledge of installing stereos in many other vehicles?
greetings dial2fast; i was wondering if there is any concern of the toyota's security system being triggered by doing this? i have a 2007 toyota tacoma and i would much rather not get "locked out" of it. thank you in advance for your timely response. also, thank you for this great and clean how-to video :) P.S. when you were attaching the wires together what were those orange looking tubes?
lordofh3 For this install, we had no problem with any of the factory system. The connection I made on the wiring harness is using butt connectors, and a crimper tool. But those connectors are just called butt connectors. You learn more on this video: ruclips.net/video/uaYdCRjDr4A/видео.html

I have a 2008 Tacoma and had bought a Sony Mex on ebay. Thanks to your video, I was able to install it without any trouble. I really appreciate it!!!
Great another project that requires a 10mm. Guess I'm running back to the store 😂
Hey thanks for video. Very helpful. Pretty cool a video you made 8 years ago is still helping people.
Thank you for this detailed walk through. I was nervous about doing this myself but I feel much more confident now.
I am sure I will be watching this step by step as I do this myself.
Great video! Just the right amount of information. Getting ready to install my Crutchfield kit into my 2006 Tacoma. Thanks!
Thank you so much, i followed your video and installed my stereo without any problems, learned a lot just by watching your instructions and your video. Thanks again....

Dude my stereo is coming in from Crutchfield so, glad I found this!!!!!
how did it work out?
Was it hard
I’m hard 😈
So behind, thanks for this video. I'll be workin on my truck when the stuff comes in. First time for my Tacoma to have a new stereo in it! The one currently in it has been going bad. Lol
Followed this exactly and it looks & works great. Thanks
Great video. I just received my new radio with bluetooth from Crutchfield to install in my 2006 Tacoma. Thank you.
Thanks for the video! Good tutorial. Did not need to pull my weather stripping as "A" pillar popped off easy enough with a wiggle. Much appreciated on saving me time. Highly recommend!
+Duke Ellington Thanks for your comment.
Well done. Very clean install and explained very well.
Great video...I’m a visual hands on learner so it was a great help. Thanks.
Thanks for your comment!
What about the dangling harness pieces coming from the truck that have nothing to hook up to?
Thank you for posting this, just bought a 2006 and it doesn't have Bluetooth! Now I don't have to blindly pull things apart
Thank you so much for the video , Man it was a lot of help... I appreciate you posting the video.
Thanks for your comment!
Will this kit work with any single din stereo? Or only Sony mex style stereos?
does the wiring usually connect to the same color wire if you dont know what they are?
can I just connect the same color together?
Great video.... and clear explanation.
Brother great video as I’m about to pull mine out to add hdmi and parking brake bypass. I have to ask where can I find the long plastic flexible piece to snake the wires and tape to them ? Thanks again.
I followed your steps in the video but the only problem I had was the dimmer didn't work. Got any ideas this is for a 2005.
What model stereo is that I know it’s a Sony but the description didn’t show
May I ask - that connector you didn't plug in at the end, does that go to the steering wheel controls and require another harness sold seperately from sony? I'm trying to figure out what exactly it goes to and how to get steering wheel controls to work.

This helped a lot. But why did you remove the metal side brackets from the factory unit when you didn’t reuse them on the new unit? Thanks.
Cuz it’s in the way of removing the clock, airbag indicator light and hazard light out from the bezel.
Always enjoy your videos , keep up the good work!
Thanks for your comment!
Where you get those connecters (from stereo to truck) 2 piece white terminals
Stereo wiring harness amzn.to/2gn3Z8G
Can I also put a touch screen deck in my Toyota my Toyota is a year older than yours where did you get your face plate
This wire harness doesn't work on my 2006 Tacoma. Any recommendations?
If you disconnect the clock and airbag indicator bar with the battery still connected wont you get an air bag warning light in the dash that only the dealer can reset?
I can use any head unit right doesn’t have to be this Sony ? I’m gonna use jvc
I liked what I saw thank you
What size driver did you use to remove the hex nuts from the console? The internet keeps telling me 3/8 in but that doesn’t fit. Thank you for the video.
I wish you had went more in depth with the wires we didn’t need to hook back up. I had to search around the internet for those. Other than that, good video. Thanks!
Great video Where are you located?i would like to update my radio on my Tacoma 2008 and I’m needing new headlights replaced the old ones are so dim
Thank you for the video.
What are all the parts you need to put that in your truck (please be specific) thank you
Fantastic content!! Great great job 👏🏼👍🏼
Awesome video! Thanks!
Thank you!

Thanks again!
Liz judkins great to hear you got the install done.
I just gotta match the wiring colors with one another right basically?
why did you put that metal frame ? you already have the brackets for the radio.
would these instructions be the same for a 2009 Tacoma truck that has controls in the steering wheel?
+Evandre Molina You will not have steering wheel control after this install. I believe there are aftermarket interface parts that will allow it. You will need to research it.
yeah i found it.. the aftermarket part is call maestro sw.
thanks for the video i have a tacoma to do tomorrow, wasn't sure if it was gonna be a pain but doesnt look to bad..
great video...we'll done. was there a link to the sony conversion stereo you installed?
Awesome video I’m gonna try that
Can you tell me if theres an Aux input in the back of the original Tacoma stereo ?
they have it
Awesome vid, thanks for the effort!
Question...By doing everything in this video, will the steering wheel control still work?
Jacob Wright No, you need a separate adapter
TrebuShade what other adapter do you need
Metra Axxess ASWC-1 Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface, Amazon.com
the harness that is not connected, the one that goes to the radio. What is it or what is it for?
will this procedure be similar on a 2012 model ?
Great video. I always enjoy buying and installing items from Crutchfield since they include detailed drawings and instructions.
Yes, with Crutchfield you pay a little more for the stereo, but they take the hassle out of figuring out all the installation parts you need.
This was helpful, thanks for posting.
Joe Holmes Glad my video was helpful!
Can I put a generation 3 Bluetooth stereo from another Tacoma into my 2008 generation 2? I like staying Factory
@@BushyHairedStranger no i was hoping someone would enlighten me
Thanks for the vid
What about the third plug from the original radio with 3 wires that you did not reconnect?
I’m curious about that as well.
i am trying to isntall a mini ipad on my tacoma but also want the stereo do you know if their is enough room for me to push the stereo back so i can can make the mini ipad fit?
Cobaltz Sorry, I am not sure on that.
great video thanks for that .
What type of baezo is that and where did you get it?
Hey dial2fast can I put a 2014 Toyota Tacoma radio into my 2008
FYI if you have an 05 Tacoma with the JBL sound system this wiring harness will not work. You need TYTO-01.
I just saw this video did u do on 05 Tacoma what part ls I should order ?
A couple years late but did he not connect the two connection because they were only used for the Toyota amp? Have mine all together then saw 4 plugs but same 2 connect on mine
can someone help me, i am thinking in getting a kenwood double din, and it says that it fits on silver dash tacomas. Which mine is black but in the pictures it seems to be the exact same thing, any suggestions?
Do you know if the controls on the steering wheel will work on non stock radios?
You need to install another steering wheel interface module to control the aftermarket radio. I am not sure the exact part, but you can check with your local stereo shops for details.
Will all this work if I use a Dual XR4120 stereo instead of the Sony Stereo?
Good stuff, thanks for the post!
Thanks for the great tutorial. I just put mine in and this video helped a lot, good job and thanks again.
Thank you
so i tried to use the same wiring harness that was listed in the bio and it didn’t fit my factory stereo harness... only thing i can think of is that i have a jbl factory stereo so maybe the connections are different?? if anyone else has this problem or anything lmk
13 minutes, you are good, it probably has been some time, how did the blue tooth work out, as advertised
My friend got the phone paired and the hands free calls are working great. He can also stream music to the stereo from the phone.
is there one that fits 2012 tacoma?
What wiring harness did you use? And is it for the JBL system?
Don't remember the part number, but they were Metra from Crutchfield. The truck is non JBL.
Where did you get the rest of the stuff? The wiring harness and the bezel.
***** The customer bought it from Crutchfield.com
Very good video
Great video! Did you know how to take it apart before you started the job or did this completely blind aka just using your general knowledge of installing stereos in many other vehicles?
This was the first time i installed it on the Tacoma.
I like you video bro !!!!
Thanks for your comment!
Will this work for a 13?
What's the stereo you installed in this video?
+Akoro _ Sony MEX-N6000BH
If you buy a double DIN receiver I'm assuming you don't need a new faceplate then?
just installed and its VERY staticy no matter what the volume is and i know i messed up something i just dont know what. could anybody please help?
did this toyota have the jbl system???
Sorry don't remember
+dial2fast noooooooo!!! owell thanks for the fast reply.
where attach the ground wire black
Where did you get the harness bezel?
I added links in the description where you can the parts for the Tacoma. Cheers!
Are you in Washington? Ill pay you to do this
Awesome 👏
greetings dial2fast;
i was wondering if there is any concern of the toyota's security system being triggered by doing this? i have a 2007 toyota tacoma and i would much rather not get "locked out" of it. thank you in advance for your timely response. also, thank you for this great and clean how-to video :)

Hey man, I have a 2010 Tacoma, do I order the bezel separately?
Or does it come with it?
If you order from Crutchfield they'll send you everything you need for the install except for the tools of course.
Don’t even own a Tacoma but still here
Has anyone had their airbag light come on with the install?
is it a 2008?
nice tacoma stereo bluetooth bluetoooth vehicle
Thanks!!
I wish I could just pay you to do this for my truck.
That’s a good song
I feel like I just had a kidney removed in the back of a Brazilian warehouse.
I asked how to remove a radio from a Toyota Tacoma but they all stop once the factory stereo is removed and that's it wth
Where can I get the plastic crowbar and what drill attachment did you use?
You can get a set of plastic pry bars similar to the one I have here: amzn.to/2iE8Bso
my deck is on the bottom and open space on the top WTF
