The IronBorne in Game of thrones were the exact representation of vikings, and in the books they did a lot of very fucked up shit. Which is why i say sometimes that maybe game of thrones should have been an animated show
Maybe I'm late but from my pov that readhead girl felt 'elated' because she never lived her life freely and felt happiness, the father was telling how ppl will go to hell if they don't pray & stay true to themselves. And by her damaged fingers you can easily tell she's overworking to that extent besides her family is big so she has to work more hence she doesn't get a bit of relief or things to rely or feel happy about so when she stole the ring she was keeping it hidden in case her family abondon her or things like that. Nothing special but I like to inspect details. And I'm so happy about this anime because as a English literature student it feels like those words from my text books forming a visual treat (◡ ω ◡)
My pov is that she realized that such evil people exist and that she was worried that she was going to go to hell after stealing the ring. And after she witnessed the cruelty of Askelad and his men, she feels relieved that her crime of stealing the rings pales in comparison to their crime. Thus she feels elated and free from gods punishment since her crime is much smaller than the many evil people in the world.
First a bit of my perspective Roshi. What truly hurts is seeing Thorfinn being there and not caring AT ALL about what's happening. He's just blinded by his revenge. He's been participating in the pillaging/murdering for god knows how long. His dad would be so disappointed. He been doing exactly what Thors didn't want him to... Second, when Anne said that she's elated, she meant that her sin is nothing compared to Askeladd and his men's. She's elated because there are people with much worse sins than her sin of stealing, so she has a chance to go to Heaven. BTW. I love Lupasan, but he needs to chill with his jokes, 'cause sometimes they break the mood of really serious scenes. No harsh feelings towards him, just tough love. Fun fact, aurora Anne was looking towards looked like the dragon head of a viking ship, symbolizing what happened to her village. :(
Exactly! A powerful reminder that our main characters, including Thorfinn, are NOT good people although they are fantastically written characters. Plus a great look at the perspective of two very different religions clearly highlighting that what one culture might deem evil another might not. Can't think of another anime that delves into religion so deeply.
It makes sense, Thorfinn is still stuck on revenge. All great tv shows use all their characters to the fullest extent and never focus on just one. One of the best manga and anime I’ve ever seen
What she was trying to say at the end was she feels relieved that compared to the ring she stole what her sins are nothing compared to other people sins and laughs and feels relieved that it's nothing compared to it
Lupasan saying that Roshi would be great back then because he'd take peoples stuff like "Hey, nice shoes you got there" and then just rob them reminded me of them just walking into the house and taking their food lol.
Well I couldn't believe you guys just realized what a piece of shit askelad was in the earlier episodes when they masacred every village they pillaged. That's how pirates are in real life this ain't 1pc. That's how exactly how they portray pirates at earlier times. Rape, murder, pillaging and betrayal is their specialties. Its a dark episode but its true...
He has literally been shown doing this multiple times before, it's nothing new. I don't get people who liked Askeladd UNTIL this episode and start acting like he suddenly became a bad person.
It always a constant reminder yet many people still get shocked for someone's actions. It very interesting to say the least. Nice Pic from dude from Golden Kamuy
I think its because we were pretty removed from it up until now. The worst we got after they got paid to assassinate Thors was when Thorfinn burned the house to signal the crew to come in and he watched the old mother cry for him and what he did. Other than that we see the aftermath of ransacked villages. It was always implied, but to see one of the many ways it happens up close and raw like that is really shocking.
I really like stories that involve a country girl stealing a ring. Perhaps the religious beliefs and isolated lifestyle of her hometown make her feel trapped. When she sees the pirates’ behavior in contrast to her own theft, she might begin to realize the possibility of a whole new way of life. She no longer has to worry about going to hell for stealing something. It's a good start for her current situation, but no one knows whether this realization will lead her life in a better direction or a worse one.
This episode was legitimately hard to watch. The show kinda glosses over the fucked up shit they do and does things to make us like Askeladd. Then drops this episode on us.
It was tham or villagers and since villagers couldnt fight tham he decided to kill tham cause they would eventually starve to death. So he did technically "saved tham."
Ok I wasn’t expecting that to happen in 14 like I mean they been doing that the whole series so far but I was expecting some people to escape I really wasn’t expecting them to take out kids and babies shit but man this show has been really good so far can’t wait for y’all to see the next two episodes boi thorkell comes back with a vengeance
He still top 1 though in my opinion, such a well layered character, especially in the last sections of this arc. I have a feeling your opinion might just switch again by the end, I know that happened for a lot of people.
If you really think Askeladd is evil because he did what every viking had to do to survive then I don't know fam, maybe this show isn't for you... I know that killing people is bad, but life in the middle ages was far different from what we have today... and to be fair, everything Askeladd is doing right now is to change things.
No one is excusing mass murder, learn the difference between fiction and reality you moralist idiot. Askeladd is a great and complex character, who is far superior than any of the 'good natured' 1 dimensional and generic shounen protagonists you think are 'cool'.
@StickManVS well... you're putting yourself on a corner there since Vinland Saga characters are based on actual historical figures from norse history (except for Askeladd whose character is inspired in the askeladden from norwegian folk).
I mean, it was cut out of the Anime but Askeladd's men are also Rapists sooo, even if you excuse him butchering a whole innocent village, it's like, ummm.
As much as Askeladd is an ass, reading the manga I never really felt like he was the same as the rest of the vikings, like he was kind of detached from everything.
Yall realize he been killing like this the entire show but this time they put u in the shoes of ppl he killed. He always been an asshole since killing Thors. He has things you like in him as his survival and leadership. But as a person you question everything and dislike many. I like his character and will miss him when he is dead. i mean i won't be sad when he go but i won't be happy i will just be like shrug and then hope Thorkell last pretty long on the show. All Askeladds moves is about survival not honor or love or even friendship. This is ppl in our society now except they can't do as cruelly as him do to laws and technology. He is good at making ppl learn the rough way of the world like a father that will only guide u in tough love. he is also good at reading ppl so Askeladd is a great character to me. So many ups and downs no try too hard to be good he meets this weird grey area. He was never liked because he is good you like him cause of his charisma even though he is a asshole lmaoooo. Askeladd is someone you don't have a drink with or sleep around he is someone you do business with very far away and if you meet u have to think why but a conversation can always be interesting yet scary at the same time. All his kills always been about his own survival and his team is part of that as well. You will see why he kill certain ppl off even more so you will end up back to that middle ground of liking him but not loving him so much. Technically Thorfinn is like them he been aiding these guys and following what ever but ppl look past it because his tragic past. I wonder will they let murders in our time escape prison because of tragic past. I don't think Askeladd evilness is worse then SJWs that push Feminist agenda's through movies and games and have awful conversations in real life. Askeladd on a scale from being evil Askeladd 5 Feminist 100 Thats my person thought on the matter.
Love this comment, very true. This has been going ok the whole time however the genius of the show putting us in the shoes of the victim shows how bad it truly is
Just a reminder to everyone just because askerladd is cool character who is deep doesnt mean that you should defend him by trying to justify his action. What he did deserve him to be put on death row multiple time and that is fact.
Was this Wales or England? ..then again even it it was England the people on the borders of Wales were descendants of the Native Britons .. so it's the same either way
See this the reason why I can never like Askeladd. The guy is charismatic to the max, lucky and humorous but he does shit like this. Even before they showed this episode, I still hated him to the core, him and his crew. I can never understand why people would say they like him even after all of this. He ruined so many lives of people and even if it's fiction, that's just something that I can't forgive. He didn't have any redemption like Thors, he's just a shit of human being.
As for God, well- God sent them the priest, a kind prince, his conscientious guardian, and even the chance to be merciful. He sat in Heaven, and watched his children make bad decisions, and maybe God took those peasants because they were likely innocent already; and the wicked men who murdered them were allowed to live out of God's mercy that they be given a chance to change their ways and die clean like those peasants.
@@lordrimuru2003 He's not saying its right. Just how they operate, its all grey for them. And that people shouldn't really be surprised that Askeladd would do something like this.

In a way i don't feel right judging them. We sit from such a privileged way of life (in comparison to people in the past). It's easy to paint things as right or wrong from our perspective, but in that culture/society it was just the way things were. I feel bad applying my own logic to think of askeladd as a bad person per-say
You guys missed out on so much of this episode bummer ppl aren't open minded & aware of how reality plays out. Every country in history has a dark past & is willing to do anything for gain. That just shows how much human nature is ugly but it's a reality of life. Sigh... sure he's a bad guy but also a good guy in many ways. No way am I trying justified his actions but he did it for his country & btw he's done far many more things like this. But like I said this just shows reality of war. No one is good or bad everyone is fighting for different reasons. White knights are literally ppl who don't have the attention spand enough to think about actions.
I dont think Askeladd is a bad guy, He was just looking out for his own(or his own goals). To me thats how it was back then and honestly i would have done the same thing
You people should finally realize this is an anime about medieval ages, with vikings and christian crusaders. This is pretty much the normie thing to, even in our reality, this would happen 100% They are not "bad guys", they are not "good guys", they are guys raised in violence. Medieval ages were pretty much the definition of Survival of the fittest. The villagers were weakling, it makes sense that they killed them :P
Based on ur title I can tell, please don't put ur shonen values on seinen characters and story. There isn't a good person here not even the MC thorfinn. Askeladd is by far the best character even though he's an evil man.
But we live in a completely different era now in heavy religious moralism influenced societies so what Askeladd chose to do was only morally wrong because its the way people who have been religiously indoctrinated today perceive such things. In actual fact morals mean nothing because of the way science and the natural order of things work, when a predator kills some prey it does not take a minute to consider how morally correct the kill is. The same applies to humans killing other humans, the only difference is that we have minds that are capable of succumbing to illogical thoughts such as empathy and sympathy. Christianity, Judaism and Islam all teach very similar morals because they all stem from Judaism and Judaiac moralism has therefore indoctrinated most people on Earth into thinking that certain things are off limits and we should think of certain things as morally wrong and other things as morally correct. Who gets to decide what is right or wrong? God of course, there you have the ten commandments along with many other morals that are indoctrinated through the religious propaganda ridden holy books. This is the reason so many people today have a diluted and shallow moral compass, the type of people that will happily stand on a spider but preach about stopping murders simply because murdering a human means murdering an organism with the mental capacity for emotion, emotion does not make a difference it is only a by-product of intelligent thinking. Humans are animals, a fact that religious institutes try to shy away from in their teachings. This was a lesson in critical moral thinking.
@@bravesirrobinn I definitely read it and it reminds me of the rambling I hear on the bottom floor of the hospital I work at, where the mental ward is.
@@LunaBirbosa You know the human mind is extremely malleable. It is unbelievably easy to coerce and indoctrinate into certain lines of thought. People only a couple of hundreds years ago were called "witches" and "satanists" because they delved in the "occult", which was really science, they were experimenting in science and yet the church deemed them occult and therefore evil. So the church had them all killed and 99% of the public were fine with it, they encouraged it because they were all indoctrinated into a particular line of thought by the church's religious propaganda and the mental control that the church had over people at that time made it easy as piss. What one person thinks is "crazy talk" is insightful talk to others. I didn't say you didn't read it, I said you didn't listen and understand it. Just goes to show that there are neither heroes (Thors being the exception) or villains in Vinland Saga. Only men, and their goals.
Thors most likely did similar things.
@@arrocoda3590 when he was younger
@@arrocoda3590 He definitely did, he only changed after he married Helga and had children.
@@confusedkys6090 doesnt justify his action tho.
Also i would say that all men that has been fighting so far by today standard would all be put on death row even thor.
Im manga she said: God didn't killed me because of my sins I can't go in heaven with my friends and family something like that.
Because she stole the ring.
I like the anime's interpretation of this better. She was just "elated" that someone else is more evil than her and her stealing the ring.
This anime is closest to anime Game of thrones we have !!!
The IronBorne in Game of thrones were the exact representation of vikings, and in the books they did a lot of very fucked up shit. Which is why i say sometimes that maybe game of thrones should have been an animated show
Legend of the Galactic hero’s is closest to Game of Thrones
Lets hope it don't have a final season like Game Of Thrones then.
Arslan senki
Berserk
This episode is the reason I fall in love with the outro
Askeladd is maybe the deepest character ever made for any show. And this 1st season will teach us more about him slowly...so slowly =)
"Askeladd is maybe the deepest character ever made for any show" lol this is such a dramatic statement. But to each their own
Im glad he died he got what he deserves
Lol let them hate the guy he deserves it
I used to sum up Vinland Saga as: "Thorfinn's Terrible Life Choices." Or "I Should Have Listened to My Dad": The Manga/The Anime.
As a Jamaican, there’s not many things I love to see more than when foreign people use Bomboclaat in proper context 👌🏾👌🏾
Me n Lupa are Jamaican lol
YaBoyRoshi Holy crap 😂 🇯🇲 🇯🇲
"Oh SHIT! Dem niggas pulled up like Batman." Is the best shit I've ever heard in my life. 7:52 damn. Liked, favorited, and hopefully memed
Yeah he's an evil man but for some reason I don't hate him as much as some other villains in anime
Good writing
He doesn't feel guilt. He knows who he is.
It doesn't even feel like Thorfinn is the main character atm. Askeladd and Thorkell are running the show now
It makes sense, Thorfinn is still stuck on revenge. All great tv shows use all their characters to the fullest extent and never focus on just one. One of the best manga and anime I’ve ever seen
And the Priest.
Don't forget about Canute
because this arc is just the "prologue". after that, y'all in for some more bigger cause as the story proggress.
Y'all gonna have a video titled Askelaad is the best character someday 😌
Welcome to seinen anime.
What she was trying to say at the end was she feels relieved that compared to the ring she stole what her sins are nothing compared to other people sins and laughs and feels relieved that it's nothing compared to it
Yo this title really got me holding my chest like youre calling me true scum 😂😂
Bro I swear Lupa’s sound effects are on some other level lol
LMAO
First time I saw this family I knew everybody was getting slaughtered
The life of vikings
Shits rough rough
I think he is hypocritical by calling them barbarians when he killed a whole village for a army that he then immediately sacrifices to live.
Lupasan saying that Roshi would be great back then because he'd take peoples stuff like "Hey, nice shoes you got there" and then just rob them reminded me of them just walking into the house and taking their food lol.
To be honest I don't hate Askeladd in the slightest, I love his character and ruthless nature so much.
You hate him as a person tho…. right?
Glad they didn't hold back on the reality of viking raids, they put everyone to the sword.
Eating while watching this show makes it 10x better...you should try
They literally have done this kind of thinks to englands like for ten years dude...
This episode is so intense
Well I couldn't believe you guys just realized what a piece of shit askelad was in the earlier episodes when they masacred every village they pillaged. That's how pirates are in real life this ain't 1pc. That's how exactly how they portray pirates at earlier times. Rape, murder, pillaging and betrayal is their specialties. Its a dark episode but its true...
Lupa making jokes during serious parts cracks me up man 😂😂 never change
This story is actually a story of redemption and thats spoilers for all of you.
Yeaaahh, that was pretty rough.. 😬
Vikings: They're...pretty psycho.
It was tham or villagers and since villagers couldnt fight tham he decided to kill tham cause they would eventually starve to death.
So he did technically "saved tham."
Besttt crew Idc💯
Ok I wasn’t expecting that to happen in 14 like I mean they been doing that the whole series so far but I was expecting some people to escape I really wasn’t expecting them to take out kids and babies shit but man this show has been really good so far can’t wait for y’all to see the next two episodes boi thorkell comes back with a vengeance
He still top 1 though in my opinion, such a well layered character, especially in the last sections of this arc. I have a feeling your opinion might just switch again by the end, I know that happened for a lot of people.
You can enjoy a character, and be a fan, and still think they're a piece of shit.
askelaad gonna have a whole ass redemption arc at some point, probably
Pretty sure he is irredeemable at this point, but I would like to see how they try to do it.
Take a shot for every Askeladd stan tryna excuse mass murder.
Even if he is not good he is a great character
React to beaststars all 3 episodes it is going to be slow in the beginning but later on it is action after action 😉
As much as Askeladd is an ass, reading the manga I never really felt like he was the same as the rest of the vikings, like he was kind of detached from everything.
Ep 12 & 13 missing
Episode left me speechless🤐
Askeladd on a scale from being evil
Askeladd 5
Feminist 100
Thats my person thought on the matter.
Love this comment, very true. This has been going ok the whole time however the genius of the show putting us in the shoes of the victim shows how bad it truly is
@@YaBoyRoshi Yup such a great show too for putting it well together.
Just a reminder to everyone just because askerladd is cool character who is deep doesnt mean that you should defend him by trying to justify his action. What he did deserve him to be put on death row multiple time and that is fact.
12:25 what is the name of ost ?
Was this Wales or England? ..then again even it it was England the people on the borders of Wales were descendants of the Native Britons .. so it's the same either way
See this the reason why I can never like Askeladd. The guy is charismatic to the max, lucky and humorous but he does shit like this. Even before they showed this episode, I still hated him to the core, him and his crew. I can never understand why people would say they like him even after all of this. He ruined so many lives of people and even if it's fiction, that's just something that I can't forgive. He didn't have any redemption like Thors, he's just a shit of human being.
i think dude on the right needs glasses lol, he looks like he squints a lot.
You gotta understand these guys are VIKINGS. Like killing is there thing. There are no morals for these guys. Dope reaction overall though.
That still doesn't make his actions right
@@lordrimuru2003 He's not saying its right. Just how they operate, its all grey for them. And that people shouldn't really be surprised that Askeladd would do something like this.
@@lordrimuru2003 I know that's why I said they have no morals. Plus it was a solid reminder to who Askeladds' crew are and what they do.
@@lordrimuru2003 even if his action aren't right that doesn't mean u have to dislike him....
Vikings weren't savages. Their motivations for raiding weren’t even evil, and fighting wasn’t seen as an act of hate. They killed men in raids and believed that they would be rewarded the same way their own warriors were. To die in combat was a blessing for anyone to their view. They didn't round people up and slaughter them in droves including women and children. People who murdered out of combat were considered dishonourable and more often than not they were outlawed and/or faced trial by combat.
Askeladd is definitely going to Helheim.
Please name the song, the end video

These villagers deserved it for being weak.
Well to be fair. Theyre vikings. Theyve been doing this since the beginning.
Fuck that, this niggas askuladd is a bitch
Same studio as attack on titan
You gotta remember, people was doing whatever they could to survive, wheather it seemed morally right or wrong.
Yall too soft hearted to watch this i feel yall dont really get it vikings do this to anyone they been doing this till now but when its angled towards innocent civilians yall get weak lol grow up and look at the full picture yall gonna love askelad by the end since yall so emotional lol

People dont know what elated means. Terrible choice of word from the translation team. Way better choices for ドキドキ
In a way i don't feel right judging them. We sit from such a privileged way of life (in comparison to people in the past). It's easy to paint things as right or wrong from our perspective, but in that culture/society it was just the way things were. I feel bad applying my own logic to think of askeladd as a bad person per-say
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Askelado
You guys missed out on so much of this episode bummer ppl aren't open minded & aware of how reality plays out. Every country in history has a dark past & is willing to do anything for gain. That just shows how much human nature is ugly but it's a reality of life. Sigh... sure he's a bad guy but also a good guy in many ways. No way am I trying justified his actions but he did it for his country & btw he's done far many more things like this. But like I said this just shows reality of war. No one is good or bad everyone is fighting for different reasons. White knights are literally ppl who don't have the attention spand enough to think about actions.
I literally think they made the kids ugly so we wouldn't feel too bad about them dying 😂
That's not even funny you sick prick
Sup
No she didn't try to kill herself. Ya'll need to look up what elated means.
Am i the only one Who thought of askeladd being the best chracter since his first appearence and through the whole series
I dont think Askeladd is a bad guy, He was just looking out for his own(or his own goals). To me thats how it was back then and honestly i would have done the same thing
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Feeling elated 😉
Nd u tell me people like dat guy?!
This was a lesson in critical moral thinking.
imagine writing a 272 word paragraph trying to excuse a dude for killing babies.
@@LunaBirbosa Imagine not listening and actually understanding.
I already knew you read it because you chose to pick an exact number "272" for the word count of what I wrote. If you didn't bother to read it then you wouldn't have bothered to choose an exact number like 272, you would have just estimated it at something like 250 or 300. Funny how you can't come up with any factual arguments against mine isn't it? It's almost like you're the church and I'm the "mental occult rambler".
To be fair, Askeladd didn't have any other choice and he clearly feels uncomfortable for having to kill welsh people... he really needed those supplies and he spared them any more suffering by killing them.
They were not Welsh, they were english anglo-saxons who Askeladd hates. They're in Mercia now, not Wales.
Oh, you're right... well, even so I don't think Askeladd enjoyed killing innocent civilians, not even Thorkell would like that shit.
But I don't think so about feeling uncomfortable
He clearly doesn't give a fuck about their lives...
@Hachiman Dz he wasn't smiling or feeling relaxed, he clearly looked at them with pity.
