Jared I really enjoyed meeting you and speaking during lunch! I appreciate your insight😊 I will say that my daughter is not an active member, I joined when she was 16 and I’ve let her make her own decisions but I do make it a point to let her that God loves her unconditionally and so do I (I do wish she would slow down on the tats though 😂) but she is beautiful either way🩷 I hope to see you again soon. Don’t be a stranger 😊 Be blessed!
Latoya, it was SO wonderful meeting you and your husband. You both showed me an incredible amount of grace and hospitality, and I don’t take any of it lightly. Thank you for being a light in this church.
That text you received sums up my experience. Leaving was EXTREMELY difficult, and I grieved my decision for years. But ultimately, I had to be honest with myself about what the UHOP is. The reality is that both of your experiences are the real UHOP, and that’s what has kept so many people there. Many are afraid to leave because this is all they know.
Glad you made the decision you wanted to make and hope you're happy. I left Jehovah's Witnesses after being in for decades from birth and many of my new friends will never realise how impactful that decision was.
okay. let me break this down. i went to the house of prayer for several decades. first-- the local smaller house will change the service to be less offensive to visitors. one thing they do is mention daddy less often when there are visitors. larger houses and when daddy is in service do not make any such changes unless it is an event that is deliberately meant to interface with the public at large. an example is the charlotte shout. it is meant to be an event where people of all faiths come and have a worship experience at the house of prayer. the name "daddy" is not used. the term "bishop" is used instead and very sparingly. however, during convocation, everything is "daddy." the very same people you met at the local house go to the convocation house where it's all about daddy. the emphasis is on making a good impression within the context of the organization--not the world. that is why you were treated with more hospitality at the local house and not the larger one. at the larger one they are handling business and do not have time to evangelize. therefore it falls to the local house to be the ones to be the nice guys. but i would say that the local house is where you find the true house of prayer.
I grew up in this church. My family is four generations in. I left at age 22 and often find myself wanting to return because it's really all I know when it comes to spiritual grounding. I grieved for years after I left. I appreciate this video it helped me put some things into perspective. Also, I love that you mentioned that the associate pastor is still embracing his family. My family never abandoned me after leaving. They were disappointed but never turned their back on me.
Man, this channel deserves way more views than it is getting. I am a lifelong Protestant Christian, and in no way am I deconstructing. I just find myself debating Christians often about “acceptable” worship. I personally would rather see a large variety of churches where many can experience connection with God, than one option with little to no variation. Watching your videos has confirmed this for me. Many congregations seem to have unique strengths and weaknesses. Perhaps in this case (denomination or cult), hospitality is their strength. I have certainly been in my fair share of congregations that could have benefited from this example. It is also really awesome to see an atheist engage with these strengths and weaknesses in good faith. You approach this with more balance and care than most believers.
I hear what you're saying. I was raised Baptist and still consider myself to be. But, my wife and kids and I go to a non-denominational church now. It's not a typical non denom church - it used to be Church of Christ, but separated from them. It's a church I would have never gone into as a younger man. A place I would have said was no good, despite not knowing a thing about it. Then I learned something one day. It's one thing to have a preference for "style" of worship. But when you start beating down other preferences or styles, you're making worship about you. It's about God.
I'm a former JW who has a tattoo. I am an atheist but I share this passion for learning about other religions and their traditions and vibes. So far I have attended one Catholic mass. This video series has inspired me to go out and attend other religious services in my town. Not with the intent of joining one (although I will always strive to keep an open mind) but to learn about other people and their cultures and practices. It's almost like world travel for someone who can't afford to do that for real.
You're probably aware since you're on this channel but I'll say it always. Try visiting an Orthodox Church. If you're interested in cultural differences, you'll be in for a treat. Jared's video on it was great, but we say "come and see" because it's experienced. If the national thing is confusing, any nation name before it will be Eastern Orthodox (so Greek, Russian, Serbian, Antiochian, Romanian, etc.) with the exception of Armenian. Coptic Orthodox are not in communion with Eastern Orthodox and can be a bit different, though if you're interested in culture, you'll probably enjoy visiting each one, since we have "little t traditions" that are different between each. I go to Antiochian for example, and we have more kind of Arabic/byzantine hymns, I've been to a Serbian parish before and they had a bit more "westernized" musical style, just as one small difference that's easy to point out without experiencing it. I hope you check it out and enjoy.
Hello I’m a UHOP young member I would love to talk to you. I thank you for taking a second look and trying to get a better understanding of how we view things. We are for all people.
I’m an atheist and I play drums at my father’s church and I get the same experience. So glad for this type of vid because it shows that no matter the organization of a certain Christian denomination is that people ( not all but more than u would think) really wanna do right by all, even no matter what you believe. GREAT post J ❤️✊🏿!!!
Just discovered this channel and it’s exactly what I needed. Been watching a lot of content about the theological/organizational/historical differences between American denominations, but none of them cover the actual experiences like you do. Awesome work!
I’m so happy, I watched part 2 and that you had the courage to do another video about them. It seems to me, they have their pros and cons and that they are doing many good works with the money. Maybe people like you and me have a lack of knowledge about their history and culture that is needed to understand what is really going on. But thank you again for the update. I hope, to hear more about them in the future as well as other denominations.
These are some fantastic videos… love watching them. I live in Greensboro, NC, sounds like a lot of the churches you’ve visited are not too far from where I am. Anyways keep up the videos man, you have a natural talent making them.
my wife sent this link to me. she and i both are members of the UHOP, since birth. i do t attend as often as i should but i still claim membership. i'm appreciative of the fact that you did your due diligence in investigating my church! and i'm overjoyed that you met one of our EDUCATED & ARTICULATE pastors who had the gift of imparting and explaining the UHOP doctrine to you! stay blessed and thank you for an objective and honest assessment of the UHOP!
Hey man. I'm actually very familar with UHOP. I also have a doctorate in ministry. One of the things I think you should consider is UHOP's origins (started in the 1920s), the role of Black Christians in America, and UHOPs social impact. Three Points: Structually, it's similar to the Catholic church (Bishop/Daddy = Pope), Oneness Theology was another express of Trinitarianism but many Blacks didn't have that language in the early 1900s. Their social impact (Fodd Pantry, affordable housing, influence within Black communities and HBCUs). I grew up in the UHOP, family is still deeply connected, but I definitely have a unique perspective and can appreciate what they do. Let's just say, they do far more for the Black community, needy, and poor than most evangelical churches in America. People don't demonize the Catholic Church, but are quick to demonize Black institutions who had to learn from afar organizational structures?
The money argument you're making, what you're missing is that much of that money goes back into their affordable housing initiatives, food pantry, employing congregants who do not have four-year degrees. But happy to have a conversation! I thought this video was great.
Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Dr. Sanchez! I would love to talk. Shoot me an email (in the description) and let's hop on a phone call. I'd love to pick your brain.
Love this series, and love the purpose of your channel. Keep up the good work!! Additionally, glad that you are willing to go back and look at places. I’m still very uncomfortable with a lot of things about this denomination, but I’m really glad to have more of a complete and accurate picture of this denomination. One church doesn’t give the full picture of a denomination for the good or the bad. Thank you for the reminder!
I'm so glad you covered this church its not talked about enough! I had a coworker who went to that church so decided to go because of all the stuff I heard about it(my mom said never go in there but i did). I went when the head bishop was there and I was amazed at how much emphasis they put on him. The signing about him, him being surrounded by bodyguards, his throne, him only touching the money, them talking about who gave the most, the virgins fanning him (my friend is one but she's not lol), and him blessing the children and the fruit. I grew up Pentecostal but not like this and I say it is a cult (not always a "bad" thing) (don't fight me in the comments) but hey I think all religions are but carry on we'll all see in the end lol
Cults tell you things that vibe with normal christianity to new comers until you are pulled in far enough for them to switch it up on you, I wouldn't trust them, they treat this man as God showing up in this bishop character...
I hope this wakes up a lot of people from the HOP. Genuinely. This video is EXTREMELY important in a lot of different aspect. This is coming from a guy born into it and family is well known in this church. I pray every last member watched this.
@@HeliocentricOfficialI’m also a former member and maid in the House of prayer I’m more than willing to offer some insight and understanding, if you need!!!
Sir, the place is still in fact a cult and a problematic one at that. My family has roots in this church since the 40s. Unfortunately it’s nothing against the members but leadership since it has been established has been brainwashing its members. I definitely don’t want to out my family secrets but honestly it’s rather sad and I mourn for them and anyone who’s been a literal victim of this cult
@@marinalina6348 that's offensive, I used to go there, and I genuinely kinda hate it and it is a cult. But they still are very kind people it's rude to say they would threaten to sue like they're some monsters. They're people, weird people, but people nonetheless.
I would be grateful if someone could explain the difference to me between Catholicism and Orthodox Catholicism (or “Orthodox Christianity?)...thank you. ❤
I was born and raised in this church... still have family members that still attend... Once I got later in my years and read the bible from front to back, many things began to unveil. It is 100 percent a cult... unfortunately, the members will never know because they've been trained to love the music and the showmanship of the preachers and bishops... they lack bible knowledge. This church goes deep with much symbolism... The very thing the members love is the very thing holding them back from obtaining the true essence that lives within them.
the bible thing is one of the main reasons i left the house of prayer. i remember during sunday school, elder roberts got so exhausted at me for asking questions about the different aspects of the resurrection of jesus. he said, "look. we're just trying to get to 11 o'clock service." i slowly began to realize that it was not in the house of prayer's best interest for their members to have a real knowledge of the bible. so i just resolved to read the whole bible from cover to cover. let's just say it did not lead me back into the loving arms of daddy.
The reason for the change in preachers is how they fundamentally train them. You go into training for 2 weeks and then sent out. It takes WAYYYY more than 2 weeks. And that is what you saw. My father has been a preacher since he was 16. A lot of the issue is the training.
I have no insight into this church in particular, but I love how you see people for who they are. The kind of care and compassion you show towards these people you have barely met is just the thing we need on all sides of all these conversations about faith.
As a former member. I wish a lot more of the congregations were like this one. Because depending on the congregation you go to will determine your experience. 100%.
I’m a 5th generation member and when I saw your first documentary, I was seeing red. You never said anything untrue, but the way you presented it was very much in the favor of your opinion. The UHOP is not just a church, it’s a lifestyle and a commitment. I’m glad you have a better understanding but realize that two services and a 1hr conversation with a pastor doesn’t mean you fully understand it. Please keep coming back if you need more clarification.
Sadly this is a gospel other than the one preached in Scripture Galatians (1:6-9). 1 Corinthians (15:1-8) is salvation! 2 Corinthians (11:4), 2 Corinthians (10:3-5).
I am a member of the United House of Prayer!!! My parents and grandparents, my family in general!!! The just of the matter is just like everything else in life, things will be revealed in due time!!! As people you need to be able to lay your burden down, give your problems & prayers over to the Lord, God, Jesus Christ!!! I know for a fact, he won't let you down. Giving God the glory, in Jesus name, Amen,!!!
Hey Jared. I'm curious if you have a video where you explain more about who you are and what you believe (or not believe anymore and why). I'm new to your channel and I've watched some of your videos but haven't come across this information. Thanks man! You're cool
Your nuance is why you're probably my favorite atheist channel. Often atheists have a black and white view of religion and religious people, and this shows there's so much gray even within a single organization or even a cult.
I grew up in the house of prayer and not gone lie, I enjoyed this video and the first one. I watched with an open mind to receive your thoughts as someone who’s never been to one. I also can confirm every house of prayer is completely different almost which sucks! The one closest to me is more cultish than others… Next time you go if you really want more of how things are set up ask to read an “are you aware book” “truth and facts book” and some also have “new membership” papers! And I understand exactly what the former member was saying about the house of prayer being hard to leave… the more I read my Bible I disagree and see the thin line of the idolatry of the bishop” and some houses of prayers don’t know how to simply have respect and honor someone without praise and some does. It’s tricky! I Wholeheartedly agree with your entire conclusion at the end. I been thinking about writing a formal letter to the bishop letting him know my concerns and how the impact of the community could be better with transparent utilization of the money and hands on outreach also to let everyone know that he’s just a man. But he would need a meeting with all the head apostles of each house of prayer and everyone needs to get on one accord along with having them go back to seminary school or something so that each house of prayer can be the same across the states
Being an Atheist, and still going into the sanctuary, indicates that you’re in search of something. In my experience, I’ve found that if you search for something diligently, you will eventually find what you’re looking for, and more. I pray that you will eventually find Christ as the scripture says “ Seek and you shall find”
I grew up in a Pentecostal church that was not entirely dissimilar from UHOP. It wasn't uncommon that social atmosphere, worship style and teaching varied greatly from congregation to congregation because there was no central liturgy/liturgical calendar or branding, associated seminaries and the theology was generally conservative but fairly loose other than on a few specific issues. Which may sound like a nightmare to people associated with more historical denominations. However, the truth is could be a very positive experience on the congregational level if you had a pastor with some level of education and curiosity because they were given a range to teach and be creative with service formats that most pastors do not have.
I have to say I respect your opinion…I’m a LIFELONG MEMBER…and I can honestly say to me you didn’t say anything wrong…glad you got to attend for the second time and actually enjoy it…my late grandfather always said It’s FOR ALL PEOPLE…and that it is…
You need to turn away from this heretical gospel and turn to Christ alone for salvation! Worship of a heretical man is idolatry a d the wrath of God abides on those practicing it. Salvation comes by faith in Christ alone not by association with a church or group John (14:6). You need to embrace the message of the cross to gain salvation 1Corinthians (15:1-8)! Modalism is a false god not the God of the Bible Luke (3:22) all 3 persons of the Godhead act in unison! Christ prays to the Father, Christ is lead by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness, Christ is God John (1:1), John (1:14), Philippians (2:5-8)... doctrines you are presently following are anathema and so are those following them.
First let me say, cults don’t last for a 100 plus years. Because we are for All people, unfortunately experiences may be different. I can assure you we are not taken advantage of. The House of Prayer is free will, no one is held hostage. But I appreciate you perspective.
I can’t speak for the Roman Catholic Church, but if they are holding ppl against their will then maybe so. But the House of Prayer doors swing both ways.
@@TwoForFlinchin1 Wow Please can I use this Indoctrination because I am so sick of hearing them say the House of Prayer is a free will offering there's nothing free about the Strong arm tactics and ...Fake curses they put upon the people
I would say cults can last over 100 years. Research Jehovah’s Witnesses. I was in it for 25 years and I’ve been out of it for 30 years. No doubt in my mind.
An idea for a video series: evaluating sermons by well-known preachers. It would be interesting for you to evaluate the sermons of John Piper, John MacArthur, Steven Lawson, Francis Chan, Ben Stuart, etc. Oh, and also music, comment on the lyrics of modern worship songs.
I’m a former JW (feels weird to always intro comments like these with cult credentials), and I think your observation on the (for lack of a better term) de-radicalization of individual congregations based on their membership and leadership is enormously apt. I live in Sweden, a country with an very secular baseline, and the application of policy and instruction from the American headquarters is inevitably filtered through people shaped by Swedish culture, BUT, how much varies to a large extent. When I was on my way out, and explaining to people why I thought the literature and direction given by headquarters was, at best irresponsible, and at worst harmful and dangerous, I would be referred to how SOME elders, SOME congregations had a better take, and that should be standard by which I evaluate the organisation as a whole. I’m glad there are healthier pockets of the JW religion, and I hope it will one be be comprised entirely of that sort of thinking, but I have no reason to believe that will be any time soon.
This is an interesting video, its fascinating how wildly different this UHOP church was from the last one you visited.. The way they revere "Daddy" and see themselves as the only true church that offers salvation reminds me of the medieval Roman Catholic church, and yet their doctrine has evolved over the years, to the point where Protestants and Catholics (most of the time) now see themselves as brothers and sisters in Christ. I think the same is definitely happening with UHOP. I share your hope and prayer that this denomination becomes more united with other churches.
I found this very interesting. I am a member of The UHOP. My grandfather was a national evangelist. I love that you allowed yourself to have an alternate perspective, but you still have some haziness in regard to why we say Daddy. It’s completely biblical, and it is certainly not the flesh. The money situation is something people have taken issue with since Daddy Grace established this great kingdom in America. They accused him of being a charlatan and crook, and sadly even some followers became disillusioned. Daddy Grace prophesied to them in the early 1900s that he would put us in mansions. Now, look at the beautiful edifices we have. We were also warned that there’s going to come a time where we’re going to have to be reliant on these sacrifices we’ve made. The UHOP is a well oiled , self sustaining machine that takes the efforts of all involved. We have affordable housing programs, scholarship programs, outreach ministries, auxiliaries that occupy the children and keep them from the streets, while simultaneously providing them with life skills. I encourage you to keep visiting. There’s a spiritual side and a natural side to The UHOP. Two visits and talking to disgruntled former members will leave you scratching your head.
I was reading a comment about this church on another channel. A member said that Bishop Mr. Grace didn’t ask to be called Daddy and that because he had been like a natural father to some of his followers they asked if it was okay to call him by that nickname. Then you stated that Daddy is biblical. I’ve heard several different explanations of “Daddy” and it is overwhelming to understand. I guess my question is what does money have to do with salvation?
The story that member shared may be true; I don’t know. You have to realize that The House of Prayer is a collection of people from diverse backgrounds and religious affiliations. Everyone who attends The House of Prayer, doesn’t understand The House of Prayer. Daddy is the Abba spirit that dwells within the man. It is the spirit of Christ that remains here, while Jesus is away preparing a place for us. Jesus told his disciples he was going to send another comforter. The Holy Ghost had already come down in the upper room. This is where the Christ Spirit being in a man comes into play. Paul was the first to have it. (Read the entire book of Acts.) He wrote letters to his “children,” who were clearly his disciples. He was given the power by Jesus directly to bind or loose people spiritually. When we say Daddy, it is the English word for Abba, which is Aramaic for that term. Romans 8:15 comes to mind. By calling on that name, we have been accepted into God’s family. Jesus only came for the Jews, but he died for us all…… Go speak to a pastor directly. It’s far too much to attempt to swipe text on this phone.
So where in the scriptures does Mose.. David. John ..12 tribes of Israel Matthew or Paul refer that God as Daddy or other Apostle reference each other as Daddy or Savior... Please, put Book chapter and verse and don't take 1 Corinthians 4-13 14 out of contacts .. Scholarships no one have received any money since the pandemic and before then the scholarship was only a one time $500 what can a college student do with a one time $500 That don't even pay for book ..when the Church Connect millions...Stop putting false information out ..Please
@@ericcurry9515 I couldn’t deduce what you were trying to say due to the rampant litany of spelling errors and grammatical inconsistencies. Although, I’m not entirely sure, I’m surmising that you disagree with the doctrines of The House of Prayer. If that is the case, it is completely okay with me. I don’t wish to argue with you. I am satisfied where I am, I can only hope that you are as well, even though you have found yourself seeking a quarrel. I would never sojourn on this internet to even allow myself to inquire about how you worship……When your soul is satisfied, you have neither the desire nor the motivation to harass others; you are too busy basking in the righteousness and bounty that the master has blessed you with. I'm glad that you mentioned the Jehovas Witnessses point because (as an ex-jw) they would have definitely had some issues with that tattoo! I'm glad that I'm out and can see the hypocrisy, but more glad that some christian families see it as it is; just a choice that in no way demeans the individual performing said action. I love your videos man, keep up the great work and very positive attitude! It's refreshing to see on this platform.
If you need answers biblically I can provide them for you. This shows that people have room to grow. I get that in the past people have shown up to church’s and done some things but Jesus lead with love and so should we. I’m glad you had a better experience. But I tell everyone it’s for ALL people . Not everyone will go to heaven just being a member of the house. God has qualifications to make it to heaven and he expects us to hold to them. Jesus is coming back looking for a “church” without spot or wrinkle not the house itself. Paul also tells us WE are the temple. Which means God has to be in us as well . And everything we should be doing in our lives so reflect how God expects us to live, including loving one another Paul said without charity we have nothing! Note: Throughout the whole Bible, Jerusalem and temples were burnt down taking down, etc., and even in our time some of our churches have been burnt down. But if the church is in you meaning being born again but then born of God 1 John 3:9. Which means a portion of Christ . Not just the Holy Ghost. And in reference to the man of God: Daddy = Christ like you said elder young explained. Daddy also means abba father .. in Aramaic abba father is understood - “Father I will obey” We believe he’s the modern day prophet God/Jesus sent to remind us of his words and expectations. Paul expressed this Galatians 1:15 - 16 that he “ a man” was reveal Christ in him. But the difference between us and Christ Cunningham. God said Amos 3:7 . When Cornelius pray to Jesus, did Jesus himself come or did he Send someone ? The one he left in charge? Research it for yourself :-). Note: We talk about offerings etc but didn’t David give sooo much to help the temple be built in his day? David wanted to build a temple, but because he had blood on his hands he couldn’t. So the profit Nathan told him that Solomon would. His son. But David decided to contribute doing that day. What will be considered so much money in this day. These are just a few points. None of this is from the defensive point of view. It’s providing knowledge in hopes it brings understanding. The Bible says with all thy getting, get understanding!!! But this is just the beginning of the scope. There so much more. Please research everything I’ve said here for yourself .. but you’ll find the truth in everything I’ve said. That’s all I have to offer (truth). I love you my brother .
I thank you for many people now you experience at HOP I was born and raised in this church how was treated at this location is how I felt all my life at this church. I love the UHOP
Edit: Tons of edits. 😅 I really appreciated how you touched on the subject on how it begins as a cult - not neccary harmful but its something that guides them. And its absolutely a case of the "genre" doesnt make the congregation - the pastor does. A charismatic person in "power" can absolutely change how people interact with the church., and likewise someone that beliefs in the message will be more laid back. Havnt studied theology but from the bible version I got Jesus hung with "non-desirables" and said that giving $1 out of 100 was worth way more than $10 out of 1000 due to pocket depth and desire, as to how it wasnt the amount of money but rather the importance of said money. I guess in a way thats how some UHOP misconstrued that into "the biggest giver will get heaven" as a way to milk. Also fun fact: With some googling I just figured out I went to a Pentecostal church, not Baptist. Hard to know what you dont know.
You should come to a service when Dad is present. Imma member and I can tell you I have my own freewill to do what ever I want to do, as far as money. The House Of Prayer is a spiritual kingdom. Daddy is the Knowledge and Power of God. Cunningham is the vessel in which that Christ Spirit resides. The wheel in the middle of the wheel
The danger in this organization is replacing Jesus Christ with Daddy/bishop…Jesus never called himself daddy.. In Philippians, 2:9-10 Paul says that the name that God exalted above all names is JESUS.. we should be aware of twisting God‘s word to fit an organizational culture and customs.. #JesusIS-King #Diary of a Confused Christian (Amazon 😊)
The Spirit is "ALL" We are not being taken advantage of, we are professionals, laymen, & in-between. We are not a cult, but without the Holy Ghost, you will not be able to understand, you have to know who Daddy is, beyond the Holy man servant of GOD. GOD is a mystery, when not in the understanding of him, how can you learn of him without his Holy Spirit, you can not.
Looks like the cult church was able to cover up their lies and fool you. You should read the word to get more understanding and the truth. The lord saids you should have no image of the lord, yet you see one.
big pimpin in that church. Instead of them talking about the Virgin Mary they probably talked about how to get that Mary Jane. If you know what I mean.
The Protoevaggelion of James has nothing to do with James of course and it contradicts the Gospels. If he was a Christian, he would definitely know enough not to use it. -Some or all of the basic characteristics found in cults are: *lustful leaders *rich leaders at the expense of the people *praising leaders *leaders becoming rich *sexual misconduct that is excused and hidden *lack of love for family members that belong to another denomination or are atheist *they threaten to kill you or/and do so if you attempt to disassociate with them *drug use *distortion of Biblical doctrines ---In Christian cults, there are genuine believers there that are completely deceived; I cannot say they are not genuine believers of God. The fact that they revere, actually idolize a bishop (??) is mindboggling and the fact that the scoundrel bishop allows it contrary to every teaching and example in Scripture is demonic. The fact they call the disgusting specimen of a human "daddy" when even Jesus taught not to call anyone (spiritual) father on earth, since we are all children of the One Heavenly father, say a lot about him and the brainwashing of his followers. If I were you I would try to persuade that pastor to get up, leave with the believers that are sound minded and start another gathering. Why on earth would I want anyone to be under such thieves and who knows what else they are accused of. -Make a video interviewing all those that have left from this club of thieves, bring it to light.
Just because a book isn’t in scripture doesn’t make it wrong. Go to a Christian bookstore. The Church has many memories of the Savior, His Blessed Mother and the Apostles. Some are reflected in other books, but that’s not where they “came from,” anymore than the stories of Churchill came *from* Manchester’s bio.
@@traceyedson9652 What was that all about? I clearly said: "The Protoevaggelion of James has nothing to do with James of course and it contradicts the Gospels." And you made that to be that I said that any book outside Scripture shouldn't be read???? How do you communicate with people if what you "hear" them say is something else than what they said?
I have just discovered this channel and am loving it. I wish he would explore some non-Christian faiths. Sikhism, Islam, Judaism- maybe Bahai. Or weirder Christian groups (like Swedenborgianism or Mormonism)

Hello. I'm familiar with UHOP in fact I visited in Spartanburg SC awhile ago when Daddy McCullough was leading. I have many relatives with the movement & concerned as well. I'm glad to hear that all are not in the same mindset. Thank you for confirming what I received when Daddy Cunningham became leader after Daddy Bailey's Transition. I am a servant/follower of God first. This is a blessing. Thank you.
Bowing toward something is veneration, not worship. Worship properly speaking is offering. Paying respect is being reverent toward what is holy and who is in authority. I’m but UHOP, but of what you describe, they are trying to practice ancient customs that Protestants lost. That said, Oneness is not orthodoxy, and sweet daddy isn’t the successor of the apostles.
@ericcurry9515 (I Agree all members don't understand.) Well, it's written that the world will not understand what is going on. Written in John 14:17, the world doesn't know the Spirit of Truth is Daddy.

So, why did you leave? Is it because of the other denomination's behavior? The grinny, money hungry ones?
I’m definitely addicted to these videos. It’s pretty refreshing to see an atheist that isn’t hostile towards religion.
Likewise lol
Same
That text you received sums up my experience. Leaving was EXTREMELY difficult, and I grieved my decision for years. But ultimately, I had to be honest with myself about what the UHOP is. The reality is that both of your experiences are the real UHOP, and that’s what has kept so many people there. Many are afraid to leave because this is all they know.
I grieved when I left too. I miss it at times, my family is so desperate to bring me back.
Glad you made the decision you wanted to make and hope you're happy. I left Jehovah's Witnesses after being in for decades from birth and many of my new friends will never realise how impactful that decision was.
That’s the case for a lot of religions. It’s hard to leave because for a lot of us, our entire lives are centered around the religion.
okay. let me break this down. i went to the house of prayer for several decades. first-- the local smaller house will change the service to be less offensive to visitors. one thing they do is mention daddy less often when there are visitors. larger houses and when daddy is in service do not make any such changes unless it is an event that is deliberately meant to interface with the public at large. an example is the charlotte shout. it is meant to be an event where people of all faiths come and have a worship experience at the house of prayer. the name "daddy" is not used. the term "bishop" is used instead and very sparingly. however, during convocation, everything is "daddy." the very same people you met at the local house go to the convocation house where it's all about daddy. the emphasis is on making a good impression within the context of the organization--not the world. that is why you were treated with more hospitality at the local house and not the larger one. at the larger one they are handling business and do not have time to evangelize. therefore it falls to the local house to be the ones to be the nice guys. but i would say that the local house is where you find the true house of prayer.
Then they’re nicer than Jehovah’s Witnesses! ❤
Thank you Apostle YOUNG for representing the UHOP in a way of clear and loving understanding without the hype!
Beware of love bombing

17:55, "now you know why it was so hard to leave" noooooooo, I felt that i my soul, ouch
Definitely brought tears out my eyes. Whew.
Maybe they just wanted to leave. Ones opinion is just that.
Sometimes not believing (whatever “belief” is) is an act of faith in itself. Got that from an Orthodox priest’s teaching.
💯💯
Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Dr. Sanchez!
I would love to talk. Shoot me an email (in the description) and let's hop on a phone call. I'd love to pick your brain.
Give me a break 😭😭😭
People demonize the Catholic Church all the time.
The fact that it's a good sign for a church doesn't disown their daughter over tattoos is saying a lot
A cult has truth mixed on with lies so it's hard to tell
DATS MOOODALISM PAAATRICK!
You’re literally the first RUclipsr I’ve ever seen reference Lutheran Satire, and I watch a good deal of religious RUclips.
Cults tell you things that vibe with normal christianity to new comers until you are pulled in far enough for them to switch it up on you, I wouldn't trust them, they treat this man as God showing up in this bishop character...
Heyy please interview me about it. My uncle was the bishop of this church and I used to be heavily involved in it too!

He probably got in trouble, I bet they threatened to sue him
@@marinalina6348 that's offensive, I used to go there, and I genuinely kinda hate it and it is a cult. But they still are very kind people it's rude to say they would threaten to sue like they're some monsters. They're people, weird people, but people nonetheless.
They talked about Joaquin and Anna! That's awesome! They're included in our liturgies every week. (Orthodox)
They are important saints for Catholics and Orthodox, indeed.
I would be grateful if someone could explain the difference to me between Catholicism and Orthodox Catholicism (or “Orthodox Christianity?)...thank you. ❤
I was born and raised in this church... still have family members that still attend... Once I got later in my years and read the bible
from front to back, many things began to unveil.
@newbengraham4775 Same here brother... same here. 🎩

Thanks so much for being here.
You are in good hands with elder young.

There's nothing like the Sweet House Of Prayer. GREAT video btw 👍🏾
The reason for the change in preachers is how they fundamentally train them. You go into training for 2 weeks and then sent out. It takes WAYYYY more than 2 weeks. And that is what you saw. My father has been a preacher since he was 16. A lot of the issue is the training.
I grew up in this church. I could definitely spill some tea. I left when I was 16.( NJ)
If you haven't watched Alex O'Connor you would probably appreciate his channel as well, very balanced and respectful discussion about religion.
Love my UHOP, Born and Raised💯✝️
I grew up in the house of prayer and not gone lie, I enjoyed this video and the first one. I watched with an open mind to receive your thoughts as someone who’s never been to one. I also can confirm every house of prayer is completely different almost which sucks! The one closest to me is more cultish than others…
Next time you go if you really want more of how things are set up ask to read an “are you aware book” “truth and facts book” and some also have “new membership” papers!
And I understand exactly what the former member was saying about the house of prayer being hard to leave… the more I read my Bible I disagree and see the thin line of the idolatry of the bishop” and some houses of prayers don’t know how to simply have respect and honor someone without praise and some does. It’s tricky! I
Wholeheartedly agree with your entire conclusion at the end.
I pray that you will eventually find Christ as the scripture says
“ Seek and you shall find”
Amen
Amen
Yes... They do thousands of years .. The Roman Catholic Church
I can’t speak for the Roman Catholic Church, but if they are holding ppl against their will then maybe so. But the House of Prayer doors swing both ways.
Indoctrination doesn't require anyone to be held hostage

I'm glad that you mentioned the Jehovas Witnessses point because (as an ex-jw) they would have definitely had some issues with that tattoo! I love your videos man, keep up the great work and very positive attitude! It's refreshing to see on this platform.
This channel is informative because it focuses not on theology but the marketing and carnival elements of most organized religion. 🎉
Jesus is coming back
looking for a “church” without spot or wrinkle not the house itself.
Paul also tells us WE are the temple. Which means God has to be in us as well . And everything we should be doing in our lives so reflect how God expects us to live, including loving one another Paul said without charity we have nothing!
Note:
Throughout the whole Bible, Jerusalem and temples were burnt down taking down, etc., and even in our time some of our churches have been burnt down. But if the church is in you meaning being born again but then born of God 1 John 3:9. Which means a portion of Christ . Not just the Holy Ghost.
And in reference to the man of God:
Daddy = Christ like you said elder young explained. Daddy also means abba father .. in Aramaic abba father is understood - “Father I will obey”
We believe he’s the modern day prophet God/Jesus sent to remind us of his words and expectations.
Note:
We talk about offerings etc but didn’t David give sooo much to help the temple be built in his day?

I really appreciated how you touched on the subject on how it begins as a cult - not neccary harmful but its something that guides them.
And its absolutely a case of the "genre" doesnt make the congregation - the pastor does. A charismatic person in "power" can absolutely change how people interact with the church.,
and likewise someone that beliefs in the message will be more laid back.
That cut to Luthren Satire had me rolling.

Which city did you attend
This was really good, thanks. Please keep reporting on them for us
Just come and see for yourself and, be persuaded by your own mind ❤
Do you tell ppl you are atheist? When you visit
Your first visit probably was at the mother house, which usually hv a larger congregation..
Have you ever visited a Russian Orthodox Church? I would like to see that video if you have.
PART 2🙌
Most of the time the pastors or members take care of our guests🤷🏾♂️.
This is dope actually
@7:45. We don’t praise a man to begin with.
The Spirit is "ALL"
We are not being taken advantage of, we are professionals, laymen, & in-between. We are not a cult, but without the Holy Ghost, you will not be able to understand, you have to know who Daddy is, beyond the Holy man servant of GOD.
GOD is a mystery, when not in the understanding of him, how can you learn of him without his Holy Spirit, you can not.
What is religion or being religious???
Why do they have to call the bishop Daddy it just sounds so wrong
Exactly. And they even call him “Sweet Daddy”- which is way over-the-top. Sounds like a good name for a BBQ joint though: Sweet Daddy’s Ribs
The changes you see in this congregation accord with enlightenment seen generally in every sector in the world during these times.
-Some or all of the basic characteristics found in cults are:
*lustful leaders
*rich leaders at the expense of the people
*praising leaders
*leaders becoming rich
*sexual misconduct that is excused and hidden
*lack of love for family members that belong to another denomination or are atheist
*they threaten to kill you or/and do so if you attempt to disassociate with them
*drug use
*distortion of Biblical doctrines
---In Christian cults, there are genuine believers there that are completely deceived; I cannot say they are not genuine believers of God.
I clearly said:
"The Protoevaggelion of James has nothing to do with James of course and it contradicts the Gospels."
And you made that to be that I said that any book outside Scripture shouldn't be read????
How do you communicate with people if what you "hear" them say is something else than what they said?
I have just discovered this channel and am loving it. I wish he would explore some non-Christian faiths. Sikhism, Islam, Judaism- maybe Bahai. Or weirder Christian groups (like Swedenborgianism or Mormonism)
As a follower of Jesus, I'm loving your videos. I'm also from North Carolina, and I appreciate your search and your honest responses. It's ironic to me that, as an atheist, it truly seems that God's gifted you with discernment. If you ever want to check out a small "house church" just outside of Charlotte, let me know. We'd love to have you join us.
The united house of prayer for people are not a cult
I wouldn't say it isn't but I wouldn't say it is, some of the people worship daddy Cunningham more than the person that woke him up this morning, God
22:00 Hey, atheists can still pray, you know? :)
Thank you.
Have you read the elementary forms of the religious life by Emile Durkheim? You may really enjoy it. Seminal work in the sociology of religion.
My brother was involved in IHOP. My Catholic mother commented “they aren’t the brightest crayons in the box “
I was involved in IHOP too. GREAT hot cakes and sausages!
😂
Like I said, money makes the blind see and the cripple walk...
happy cult is still a cult
U remind me of Hugh Jackman 😂😂😂
Bowing toward something is veneration, not worship. Worship properly speaking is offering. Paying respect is being reverent toward what is holy and who is in authority. I’m but UHOP, but of what you describe, they are trying to practice ancient customs that Protestants lost. That said, Oneness is not orthodoxy, and sweet daddy isn’t the successor of the apostles.
Daddy is not Flesh and Blood. It's so much of a Mystery of God that the World can not understand.
It's not that the World can't understand it ..most of the members of UHOP don't understand it just use the Scripture (Bible)to supported it
@ericcurry9515 (I Agree all members don't understand.)
Well, it's written that the world will not understand what is going on. Written in John 14:17, the world doesn't know the Spirit of Truth is Daddy.
@@mr.robinson9817 Please Mr Robinson get you self a good study Bible and a Concordance here is a great tool to use Bible hub and read Cambridge or Barnes Commentary to get a better understanding of the scripture .....this Cambridge Commentary..John 14:16-17): the Advocate is with us for fellowship (meta); He abides by our side to defend us (para); He is in us as a source of power to each individually (en) you just need a little help with some scripture interpretation
I was born & raised in the UHOP & still attend but I encourage you to read the Bible for yourself and ask the Almighty God for understanding instead of receiving what is preached from the pulpit or mountain as the Gospel & infallible truth…
Matthew 23: 8-10 “But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
I Timothy 2:5 “ for there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” ** the bishop is not the mediator just a resource that should draw us closer to the teachings and principles of Jesus Christ
@@ericcurry9515 most of us in the hop, think we understand, but don’t. I encourage you to read your Bible for yourself and pray to God for understanding - a lot of the information presented to us is more rhetoric and molded to fit the purpose of the HOP instead of the principles of Christ
Man I was about to leave u bad comment lol a lot of ppl get a misconception bout the “uhop”
Seeing a man sitting on a throne would scare me. Too familiar to Jim Jones. -- imagine JWs Governing Body fighting over who gets to sit on the throne.
part 2? wow
Great video. My family is deeply connected and I’d love to have a conversation about UHOP.
You weren't wrong, they're a cult. Some cults have nice people. They're still a made-up spin-off.
I go to the united house of prayer
Sounds like people have been reading the Bible and seeing how some of their church’s dogma doesn’t line up and making corrections.
You just gotta experience it for yourself, Can’t go off of other peoples experiences. Everyone’s faith isn’t on the same level
This is the work of God. No matter how u feel about it. He (GOD)sent u there.. The bible says every knee shall bow and confess to God. Roman 14: 11. You may hv not confess yet, but u will in Jesus name 🙏🏽. Let the Saints of God. Say amen..
