  • In today's Adobe Photoshop tutorial I'll show you how to create a great looking retro text effect. It's made using a mix of layer styles and some clever Photoshop techniques, but the best part is it also makes use of Smart Objects to non-destructively create the effect, meaning the original type element can still be updated to change the wording.

    The best thing about this tutorial isn't that you showed me how to create a Retro Text Effect but more that you actually showed me so many new shortcuts and ways to work with Photoshop, thanks!

      Thanks TomLee! Right since college I've always wanted to learn 3D software but I never got far into it, so instead I've made use of whatever faux 3D effects in can in the software I do know!

    I find your tutorials complex and a little daunting, but I love them. Text interests me and your results, especially at Spoongraphic are spectacular. Thank you for sharing. Now your assignment is to make a Photoshop Action out of this and sell it to me...I'll be 80 in 26 months...take pity...grin. Seriously, I will be. Thanks again for all your inspiration. Be well and keep the ideas flowing.

    Excellent tutorial thanks! But to anyone else who got stuck about 5:00 in with the Duplicate and Transform - I had to look at another YOutube video to find out that the keyboard shortcut you need is (on Windows) CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+T to Duplicate and Transform (which he does say when doing the Shadow layers later). ALso, it needs to be a 16 or 32 bit document otherwise the 60 shadow layers create strange colour artefacts.

      I agree, need to slow down a lot. Around the 2:00 mark I had to rewind about 8 times to catch it all. Great art but if you are showing a tutorial make sure the viewers can follow along. Another tip for your tutorials I see you are using a Mac, when you call a shortcut give the same shortcut for Windows users.

      Whenever you have a difficulty in grasping any audio, use the caption button. And the best option RUclips has is to speed up or slow down the video playback. You must try. Caption option is 99% correct most of the time (like sometimes it might not interpret the audio properly but rest there are no issues). Also, it depends on the accent of the person speaking. The default caption language is English, you can select any other language too. For me personally, his speed is on point. I speed up most videos while watching to finish soon. Do try.

    • @noopurishere
      @noopurishere 6 лет назад

      I agree sometimes callout and notes in the videos can be useful but I think the speed was just alright. Do try the playback speed option, slow down the speed wherever required. And switch on the captions too.

    At 5:20 where you create a new layer, rasterize, then free transform, bump left and up, and confirm (enter)....when I hit Transform again (ctrl+Shift+T) it only does the bump left and up again. Is it supposed to duplicate the previous layer as well?

      @@gabymf4617 the way I did it is I dragged the layer to the new layer button at the bottom of the layer window and hit the hot key for "transform again". It's a bit tedious since you do it 40 and then 60 more times, but it's not too bad.
