I have this same bandsaw (RIKON). I’ve been using it for a few years off and on without any instruction. I was going to actually pay someone familiar with this bandsaw to come to my house and show me how to properly set up the bandsaw and use it. An employee at Woodcraft suggested this video. This was exactly what I needed. After correctly setting up my bandsaw, I’ve come to the realization that the problem was me, so off I go to bandsaw school!
i must say that watching this tutorial was an absolute pleasure, it is so nice to see a video delivered by someone that actually knows what he is talking about, so often these tutorials are delivered by some slick "actor" who was only briefed on the subject an hour before, and that quickly becomes obvious, although i have no need to watch a video on bandsaw practice I so enjoyed this one I watched it right through, the subject of the video, the bandsaw also looks very nice, and I will be looking into buying one, if I can get it delivered to me in France! Very many thanks for posting this! Chris B.

This master class was most helpful. It gave solutions to some of the problems I countered. I enjoyed his precise presentation and concentration on detail. His serious comments are taken to heart. The included warnings about working methods that could make work go wrong are greatly appreciated. Among the most important things I learned was why the blades did not cut straight after certain kinds of use in producing turning bullets. I hope to see more of Alan's presentations.
Alan I've had a RecordPower Bandsaw for many years and had exceptional help on the phone when ever I've needed it - but if you are new to wood turning look at the different types of bandsaws RecordPower offer some are for everyday all day use... and some for small jobs - you get what you pay... but RecordPower I might add are exceptional as they are so confident to offer a 5 Year Warranty
I agree with tour 5 year warranty comment. If a company put that length of warranty on their products then they are either an excellent machine or a really good company who value their customers or both.
Well I watched this again after watching when purchased the bandsaw. I was having trouble getting my bs350s to cut straight even with new blade. Well I did a full set up as per your advice and well I have to say what a difference. The table was not parallel to the blade nor was the fence. Thank you for your advice.

Hi great tutorial ... I will just go trough the first setup of the BS350S shortly and the first thing that came to my mind when I was attaching cast iron table was how to make miter guide fence rails on the cast iron table parallel to the blade, because there is movement before tightening the bolts of the table. Before you tighten the table bolts you can slightly rotate the table left or right around the blade so parallelity is not instant. Hope you understand what I mean. As i see this setting is not covered in the tutorial. Thank you for the comment what could be the best way.
Hello, thank you for your comment. If you fit the widest blade you have and then offer a straight edge up to the blade remembering to avoid the set on the blade, you can then use the straight edge as alignment to square the table up to the blade using the mitre slot as your calibration. Hopefully this is of some use to you, if require further assistance please contact out Technical team either over the phone on 01246571020 or email technical@recordpower.co.uk. Best Wishes, Record Power.
Maybe I missed it, but I did not see where you checked the alignment of the back of the blade to the table to ensure the blade was perpendicular to the table in the other axis. My Record Power BS350S was off by quite a bit and there is nothing in the manual that came with it to show how to properly align the table in this axis. It was only after several email exchanges and a phone call to Record Power that I was told about the undocumented, and difficult to reach, grub screws on the trunion base to adjust the tilt of the table in the other axis.
What an excellent tutorial, I now feel like an expert. I have been debated for a while whether to get a bandsaw or table saw for my wee workshop. You’ve answered all my concerns and queries. A bandsaw it is. Many thanks.
Great class Alan, with one exception. I don't know how this got started but the fence should be adjusted to be parallel to the miter slot so you can use the miter gauge for cross cuts like tenon shoulders. The table mounting bolts should be loosened and the entire table should be twisted to match the blade. The trunnions on my 18'' Jet are so sloppy I can just twist the table and re tighten the trunnion knobs to match the blade. On my new 14'' Jet I just loosen the two bolts holding the entire table and match the blade to the fence. I don't bother with my 14'' Powermatic, since I keep a 1/8'' scrolling blade with only a Carter blade stabilizer for scrolling.

Great presentation, very clear and precise. Thank you. Just one point you might consider in future videos is to tell users to unplug the power before venturing into the machine. Safety first. Thanks
Excellent video. Could I ask… when planking a log, would it be worth fixing the log to a piece of sacrificial 1/4” plywood to make the first cut with the plywood edge running with the bandsaw guide. That way, the first cut of the log should be completely flat?
You checked the blade if it's parallel with the table and the table guides, using the right angle and it was spot on. What if the blade was not parallel to the table guides? How do you fix that. You showed how to adjust the parallel guard with the 2 screws, but you didn't say how to adjust the blade if it's not parallel with the table and table guides. Could you please explain how to fix this?
@@RecordPowerTV I recently bought a TS250C 10" table saw. The manual is less than forthcoming with detailed information. It presumes that everything is factory perfect and you will never touch the saw after you have assembled it.

I've just bought a record bandsaw and my blade is rubbing against one side of the table opening (plastic insert). The guides shouldn't be touching blade so how do I adjust it over. Even if I do try to push the blade over with the guides they don't push far enough. Any suggestions?
Hi Michael, thank you for getting in touch with us. The trunnion that holds the table in place is fastened to the frame of the machine at the back under the table. Hello, thank you for your comment. All our bandsaw machines are suitable for cutting logs. The size of the timber however does need to be taken into consideration, as the machine and blade size would need increase depending on the work. For further information, please contact our sales team on 01246 571 020 or email sales@recordpower.co.uk. Best Wishes, Record Power.
Thank you for all the good information. Would it be possible to make a tutorial on "how to replace the drive belt." The instructions for the machine do not explain this. Thanks to you.
Hello, thank you for your comment. Please visit the following link to our video explaining how to replace the drive belt: ruclips.net/video/UXpAfh4IwfI/видео.html. Best Wishes, Record Power.
I recently purchased a BS33E and always found it hard to adjust the tension of the blade so I had a 1/4" play on the blade. After few times the lugs on the plastic tensioning knob bent. Why was this the case and why not have a metal adjuster.
good afternoon Derek, i believe the bandsaw is the BS300E ? if so i can honestly say that if your having trouble tensioning to the correct load it may be that the thread needs cleaning or lubrication to help with the tension, you may find also that as you use wider blades the material thickness increases so slight more load required if a metal handle was used as you mention you could easily overload the tension mechanism causing the thread to strip
Thank you for your comments Record Power, the problem I have mentioned has been a problem from the start, I have checked the threads on the adjusting bolt and they are clean, I didn't oil them as I thought it would attract wood dust. To tension to the 1/4" play seems to be at full compression of the spring. Could it be that the tension unit is set to low !!!
Hi Alan I recently bought a sabre 350 second hand bandsaw. The drive belt had to be replaced which I was able to do quite easily. I notice that the belt is produding out in front of the drive wheel about 4mm and not sitting in its tracks as it should be. Any suggestion would be much appreciated. Frank nally .
@@derekbalmforth249 Hi Derek, thank you for your comment. You can adjust the tension rod to give more scope by adjusting the two nuts on the rod itself, please give the technical team a call to discuss further on 01246571020 or email technical@recordpower.co.uk. Best Wishes, Record Power.
@@franknally4684 Hi Frank, the belt is a poly v drive. On the pulley and the lower main wheel, the grooves need cleaning out so the poly v belt will sit in the grooves correctly. If that has not been done before a new belt has been fitted, it can tear the v grooves and may never sit right, so basically remove and clean the grooves before refitting and you may need another belt if the v on the belt is torn. For further information, please give the technical team a call on 01246571020 or email technical@recordpower.co.uk. Best Wises, Record Power.
Agree. I bought a big Record bandsaw which I love (BS400); but the stock blades are awful. Swapping it out for a better one without making any other adjustments made a huge difference to blade drift.
Hi Alan, You mention in this video about a bandsaw box you made, do you have the link for it ? I have just invested in a bandsaw and this video is very good for me as i can now set mine up properly .

A true expert knows the limits of their own knowledge, therefore Experts would not be offended to watch basic videos because there is also knowledge to gain, basics to cement, insight to gained or validation of their own techniques. An expert is someone who knows enough to know they don't know enough.
@@jimbo2629 ,what does "trying to eliminate drift without adjusting the table instead of the fence..." Do you mean 'while' adjusting the table..? Spell Wreaker is sneaky.
Experts occasionally go back to basics, to maintain their foundation. And look and listen to most, enabling learning or fine tuning existing knowledge. Rick sir, this is the first turn. Winners enter it at 240 mph, then ease off the throttle.
Hi Record Power, I have an older model of the BS300 with a different design of rip fence - it is not as tall as the one shown, and locks with a lever instead of a wheel. Is there an upgrade path for me to get the extra height, please?
Richard Peers you can make your own resaw fence from 2 pieces (dimensions: your resaw height by the length of your saw’s table) of 3/4 Baltic birch plywood in a 90 degree L. Use two square pieces to make the L rigid. Search for it on RUclips. Then you clamp the shop made fence to the table.
Great video but on listening with headphones i heard a ghostly voice "take it away" @10:37 ...trivial but freaky if its been noticed and commented on b4 then i apologise in advance 👍
Love the demo but when i ordered one it was total disaster, every part of the machine was out of line, especially the blade guard which was catching on the casing. after a phone call to record power i was sent an email on how to repair it myself!!! unbelievable

Hello, thank you for your comment. Please visit the following link to our video explaining how to replace the drive belt: ruclips.net/video/UXpAfh4IwfI/видео.html. Best Wishes, Record Power.
@@RecordPowerTV Hello,
Thank you very much for your quick response. Congratulations for your great professionalism.
Thank you very much.
I recently purchased a BS33E and always found it hard to adjust the tension of the blade so I had a 1/4" play on the blade. After few times the lugs on the plastic tensioning knob bent. Why was this the case and why not have a metal adjuster.
good afternoon Derek, i believe the bandsaw is the BS300E ? if so i can honestly say that if your having trouble tensioning to the correct load it may be that the thread needs cleaning or lubrication to help with the tension, you may find also that as you use wider blades the material thickness increases so slight more load required
if a metal handle was used as you mention you could easily overload the tension mechanism causing the thread to strip
Frank nally

What about say Hardwoods? Usually that is a high tooth count, i use a 64 tooth blade on my mitre. Does the same apply on a bandsaw?
Thank you. Gerry . Ireland.
Very good vid!
Great masterclass, thanks. I’m thinking, though, why did my Record Power bandsaw come with a rubbish blade?
Agree. I bought a big Record bandsaw which I love (BS400); but the stock blades are awful. Swapping it out for a better one without making any other adjustments made a huge difference to blade drift.
Same. Replaced them after first cuts.
Hi Alan,
You mention in this video about a bandsaw box you made, do you have the link for it ?
I have just invested in a bandsaw and this video is very good for me as i can now set mine up properly .
super video mais une traduction en français serait top car il n'y a pas de videos en français, merci

All the comments from the experts. You'd wonder why they needed to watch the video!
Because they are frustrated trying to eliminate drift without adjusting the table instead of the fence when the new blade set is imperfect.
A true expert knows the limits of their own knowledge, therefore Experts would not be offended to watch basic videos because there is also knowledge to gain, basics to cement, insight to gained or validation of their own techniques. An expert is someone who knows enough to know they don't know enough.
@@jimbo2629 ,what does "trying to eliminate drift without adjusting the table instead of the fence..."
Do you mean 'while' adjusting the table..? Spell Wreaker is sneaky.
Experts occasionally go back to basics, to maintain their foundation. And look and listen to most, enabling learning or fine tuning existing knowledge. Rick sir, this is the first turn. Winners enter it at 240 mph, then ease off the throttle.
I have almost like this - Einhel, 1 hp. This is good machiine

Thank you.
Very informative video, but silicone on the table is a great way to spoil the finish on your wood.
Great video but on listening with headphones i heard a ghostly voice "take it away" @10:37 ...trivial but freaky if its been noticed and commented on b4 then i apologise in advance 👍
Published on 24 Nov 2017 and its 360p what ?Or is this just an old video ..

Love the demo but when i ordered one it was total disaster, every part of the machine was out of line, especially the blade guard which was catching on the casing. after a phone call to record power i was sent an email on how to repair it myself!!! unbelievable
