I already know how to wrap bar tape, but I just really enjoy watching these. You guys are fun.
Best one yet. Syd is getting more comfortable and confident. It helps that she is already expert on this one. Great video!
Looked your video up to re-watch specifically before replacing my bar tape today. Thanks for everything on this channel - it's both entertaining *and* informative, and has enabled me to tackle several jobs on my bike I wouldn't otherwise have known how to do, even though I'm a pure roadie who hasn't owned a MTB since about 20 years ago!
Remembered this video so when I changed my gravel bars and had to rewrap them I used your video as a guide. Thanks came out perfect, very happy. Love all you videos on both channels, you guys are my favourite RUclipsrs!
Who would of thought so much would go into handlebar tape. Very nice informational video. Love the color. Another one for my bike folder. Take care and stay safe, AL
I have started finishing my bar tape early on the top as i got white bars and want them to show more. It is also handy for summer as the bars are cool and keep my hands cooler too if needed. You bike looks so good, the oil slick theme is a great idea.
Thanks for doing the one I suggested. I just got some bar tape a few days ago.
good helpful video thanks. Love your cycle's colours and the pedals.
Great, simple, and with example! LOVE it!
perfect just what i need to learn :) got new tape for my kona sutra.
Perfect timing. Was just looking at bar tape on my gravel bike today, thinking I need to replace it. As a mountain biker, new to gravel I realised I had no idea where to start on it 😂
Oil slick will never go out in style plus is bling for u bike. Good job syd loving your content
Very true before you wrap the bars ya watch the videos. Your to me. The last one minute review was key to all bar tape videos. Quick review this video helped me a lot more. Thanks.
Nice job... Love new bar tape.👍
Outstanding explanation! The recap at the end was a great idea, too!
Great 👍 I do love the bartape and your bicycle too !
Some great tips, especially regarding the direction of wrapping the tape! I have wrapped quite a few handlebars, but this was really good additional knowledge. I have seen videos (but never tried it) of a wrapping technique starting near the stem and wrapping down to the drops. The benefit would be that you don’t need finishing tape, or only one wrap of finishing tape, near the stem. Also, to make the last wrap of bar tape near the stem (if you start at the bar end) as flush as possible it helps to cut the tape at a diagonal (“on the bias”) so it lays flat before applying the finishing tape. I guess if you started the wrapping near the stem, the same diagonal cut would work as well. :). Oh, and if you have larger hands or want a softer feel of the handlebars (nice for gravel riding), a double layer of bar tape is nice.
Nice one. Interesting to see your change of direction idea.
The little cover strip for the lever clamp makes a neat job; I could never understand why ppl would do the bulky figure 8 thing.
Perfect timing! After I tottaly failed applying my new bar tape a few weeks ago it totally came loose earlier today...
Hello, Syd!! i love you and your videos...
That last part that you said in the video is the one that helped me out the most. The one where the hoods fit onto the tape I wondered what to do with that. Not one video talks about it.
I do believe that this is the first channel that I've subscribed to after watching exactly one video. It was the gravity break bleed video and I don't even have hydraulic breaks but who knows maybe some day. I would love to see a custom assembly series, I would watch the episodes over and over to try and replicate.
Welcome! We will definitely be doing a custom build series, so stay tuned!
love your vids ya should definitely make a video on how to install a remote lockout on fox fork and shock!
I'm an oil slick fan myself. I have a pair of Crank Bros. oil slick Candy pedals and get tons of compliments on them from all types of riders. Its no secret, theyre available to everyone. I love purple metal parts and tire stems as well.
Just rewrapped my bars for the first time thanks. Idk what the wizards at the factory are doing but they taped my bars with no gaps without that extra piece of tape. I had to re wrap a few times and never could get it perfect but definitely serviceable.
THANK YOU! I wrapped my first bars after watching this and while they aren't perfect, they are pretty darn good and I didn't spend all day watching how-to videos first. The only issue I had was my tape wasn't overly sticky so the pieces that I put over the shift lever clamps didn't hold the greatest. Next time I might add some adhesive on them.
That's fairly common. Usually we just let the rest of the tape hold those pieces in place 😁
I don't even have a road bike anymore and not really interested in gravel riding. Just goes to show you how much I enjoy the channel. Just watched 10 mins. of content I have no intention of using :-)
The only thing missing was cutting the taper before finishing the wrap. The tape looks awesome!
Saved in Favorites :)
"we behaved like we couldn't have predicted this" hahahaha
Thanks guys. Just did my first road bars.
By the way, I took a picture on Instagram and tagged you guys. You can tell me how I did 😄
Great video, my mechanic has converted me to tape from top to bottom. This works if you have screw in plugs and looks more smooth on top of the handlebars.
That won't work. The way you rotate your hands especially on the tops will eventually cause the bartape to unwrap itself.
Taping from top to bottom would work fine if you wrap in the same direction of rotation around the bars as when you tape from bottom to top.
Yeah, I've done top to bottom for ever.
This is at least better than Seth wrapping bartape. That was a trip. I love wrapping bartape. It's a zen moment for me and it's the perfect way to finish of a bike build
Sorry the lighting isn't as good as usual in this video. Daylight savings time snuck up on us 😂😂 But here's the link to my super sparkly bar tape: bit.ly/35aAr8p
but for real, where did you get those pedals

@@sydfixesbikes Thanks! These videos are great
Awesome Channel Syd.
I am just switching my channel over to cycling.
Looking for more RAD women channels to follow
Thank you for posting this.
Nice thanks!
Love it.
You helped me over my phobia!
How is you Injury Syd? Mackey riding is cool but I miss you riding. I hope you are getting better soon. I decimated my back tire yesterday and had to replace it with my dad today. actually quite is easy.
I know this is an older video but just wanted to say "Thank You" as the method you showed in your video saved me from questioning some of my life choices.
I need a diagram/slo-mo/arrows for that around the clamps change direction deal 😂
I wish this came out last week 😂. I just tried doing it
How'd it go?
As always, awesome tutorial , im not a road biker hahaha
Is 1 role of bar tape needed for 1 side of the bars or does it cover both sides? Thank you.
When you purchase bar tape, it includes enough to tape both sides (2 rolls).
♥ SID SID WE LOVE SID! ♥
I'm about to change bar tape on my touring bike and I'm a bit scared of the process. My bar tape doesn't have the sticky strip on the underside, but I'm assuming that's not a deal breaker.
Nope, you'll just need to make sure it's wrapped tight so it holds itself in place and then tape off the end well so it doesn't unravel.
Nice Outerbike bottle on the work bench...Looks like a different lid tho...
Yeah, we mix and match 😉
Can you do a video on -"how to grease shifter/derailluer cables"
Just use Rock N Roll Cable Magic lubricant for troubled cables/housing and that’s assuming your routing isn’t fully housed. Not much else to it.
In general, if you feel like your cables need to be greased, they probably need to be replaced.
@@sydfixesbikes Thanks,SYD.
@@setransou thanks for your opinion
Great video. Two suggestions. Start with the tape tucked inside the bar and you can get a cleaner edge when you insert your bar plug. Cut your bar tape at an angle to get a cleaner/flatter edge where you use your finishing tape.
You actually need to do a 8-shaped wrap around the hood and the method you shared only applies to modern hoods with large gummy covers.
Dang. Wish I had waited a week, before retaping my gravel bike.
Yoooo dat colour is sliiiick.
Better to cut the bar tape at an angle on the tops when finishing off
Hello show
"I like bottom better", Well, they do make the world go round....
Ow noo now I want oil slick bar tape :(
That tape looks boss. Is it slippery when your hands get sweaty/wet though?
Also remember that there’s many ways to wrap bar tape, but the only wrong way is the way you demonstrate doing it in a video you post on the internet. That’s always the wrong way.
Haven't tested it in the wet yet, but it's MUCH stickier than it looks. It's actually quite grippy!
@@sydfixesbikes yeah it really looks like it’ll be grippy when dry.
hi
I like your videos becoz u r cute...
As long as you don’t pull a Seth Bike Hacks and start at the top and end at the bottom...
That bar plug end was far from a nice tidy look
The finish is wrong. You need to cut the tape at an angle.
The videos you watched must have been crap. Park will show you how.
Yo, i clicked on this vid to not watch or listen to some mansplaning.
You should watch our channel trailer (ruclips.net/video/yizxxFW7-Qg/видео.html), it explains that the idea behind this channel is that Macky is teaching me to work on bikes. He has a lot more experience working on bikes and until recently did all the bike work for both of us. That's why he's providing advice, suggestions, and teaching me while I actually do the work so I can learn.
very unsetteling to see someone cut the ends of the tape square and not tapred
Go back and listen to the beginning of the video where she said there are many ways to do this.
Point still stands. Plus: why are you answering 2 year old comments?
