  • What do you think is wrong with it? In today's episode I go off the road in my piece of crap truck with loaded snowmobile trailer attached, after finding the 1995 Polaris Indy Trail 500 snowmobile in a barn near my home. I take it for a ride and realize something is not right. I load it back up on the trailer and head over to Valhalla Mike's sled repair/carburetor tune up shop and we have a grand old time letting carb clean fumes enter our nostrils as we try to diagnose the machine. We get all the parts back together on the snowmobile and are out for another sled ride when we realize nothing has changed and the sled most likely needs seals/ gaskets/some amount of motor work. Pretty cool barn find for $300 though. We will get it running right!

    It is a clutch bog. Check rollers in the primary as well as the spring. Put new belt on and make sure deflection is set at about 1 1/4" or a hair tighter. Those piston port motors will run like that if clutching is off.

      Came to say the same thing the issue might be from the filters an old snowmobile mechanic told me they’re meant to have an air box if they wanted to use filters they would put them on from factory

    • @MrRecall200
      @MrRecall200 Год назад

      @@Speedfreak542those "lake filters" are the most cursed garbage anyone can do to a sled. Nothing but problems. Even if you actually tune the sled for them they end up wet and restricted. No matter what you do they will figure out how to create a problem. And why put them on in the first place? Not like it's going to make more power. At least on a factory sled. They spent ages figuring out how to get the most out of these motors at the factory. Those air boxes are tuned pretty perfectly to the stock motor.

    That air box delete mod is robbing your low end power which is a very small amount on the 500s anyways. Seems like it's running to lean from too much airflow. Also check that the primary clutch spring isn't broke. Those 500s gotta rev up pretty high in rpms before engagement or else they will bog like that.

    I finally got a good deal on a sled last year. 97 trail with extra 10 and studs! It had a melted piston when I got it but I paid $200! Another 200 in parts I guess to do the top end and fuel lines but it's a nice and comfortable ride! The tank was full of five year old gas that smelled like varnish. I kept clogging fuel filters and getting air in the lines so this summer I took the tank off and washed it out and put a new seat cover on and a new fuel pump. Cant wait to ride! STUDS make such a big improvement!! The reason mine was blown up from previous owner was because a mouse made a giant nest inside the fan shroud and it wasn't getting the airflow needed to cool it.

    Fuel filter? Crank seal leaking? Sounds starved for gas. How is the compression? I have a ditch pickle that would start and idle just fine, and bog down as soon as you hit the throttle. It was the filter. Another time, it was sediment stuck in the reeds of the fuel pump. Only mentioning these because they weren’t in the video. Is the pulse working for the pump? Lastly, how about the intake reeds? If they are worn or leaking, you have another world of problems.

    My landlord had an old Indy 500 that was given to him by his neighbor. The sled sat for around 13 years after that, untouched. He and I decided to wrench on it last year and got the sled running perfectly within 30 minutes. My hypothesis is that the sleds with the enclosed air-box setup last longer because the rodents can't get in and destroy the carbs/cylinders.

    If its got compression then has to be bad coil or the sparkplug caps are loose. Or just find the problem
