Thanks! I watched 3 videos before finding you. When I followed them, I had uncovered spots. Your directions worked. I was so impressed that I am making my first you tube comment & made small donation. Keep up good work!
It's still the best video on Chrome application today! I'm so glad that I found this lovely lady.. She's so passionate about her art & helping others to get it right ❤
That’s exactly the little bubbles and imperfections is exactly what I get on the nails when I’m trying to do chrome. I thought it was the product. I thought it was lint. I just couldn’t figure it out but now I watched a video and I’m understanding.👍
I double my gel topcoat every time I do my nails (every 2 to 3 weeks). My nails don't chip, peal, lift, or break. I've successfully done this for 3 years.

Thanks very much! I'm doing chrome for the first time tomorrow and I've never heard the trick of using base coat under the top coat before 😉 I'm going to try it out
I just got my first chrome powders that came with a clear builder gel I bought to do 3-D designs and I’ve not used em yet cuz I was scared I would mess it up and I am so glad I came across your channel and saw this video now I can’t wait to try them out!
Kristy! Thank you so much for this video! I absolutely love chrome and ive been struggling to get that beautiful finish. This is the best explanation I've seen! Thank you🥰
I love your videos. I learn something new every time. I started doing doing nails as more of an art project while COVID had us shut-in. I got hooked on your channel. Much love to you from California.
Thank you so much for your wonderful teaching skills! The way you explain the how and why makes it much easier to understand the reason why we must take certain steps. I appreciate it so much! I tried this technique because my Chrome always chips, and I haven’t had a single spot chip off. I do my own nails and work in a restaurant so usually by a couple hours I have multiple spots chipping off of my chrome. It’s been a few days and I am still blown away that they are perfectly perfect! Thank you, thank you thank you thank you! You are amazing and much appreciated!🥰🥰🥰 I can’t express that enough!!!!! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!! I've followed you since the previous channel (and I thought you disappeared but I found you again some months ago, fortunately!) and I started learning with your tips and watching you working. I've never commented before but now I want to really thank you so much for your hard work and precious tips!!! Also thanks to Adam and Jay!!! Much love from Italy ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Very, very helpful! I did some chrome nails on a cliente and just used two coats of top coat. The chrome started to come of the next day. I'm definitly going to try your method. Thanks ❤
I did a Chrome set a few days ago. I clean just under the free edge with a few swipes of a 240 grit to encapsulate the Chrome then cover with a regular tacky layer top coat running my finger lightly down the sides before curing and then again with a no wipe top coat and they last for 2 to 3 weeks.
This was great to watch, I've never done nails but just bought some supplies and started watching videos! Am really enjoying your style! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us❣️❣️ 💙💛
You're amazing love everything you do.. thanks so much for all the informative videos you do for us.. I'm loving this one bc "you" Kirsty made me fall in love with ALL of the different pigment powders from neon to chameleon to chrome.. with beyond AMAZING crackle technique with the neon pigments on the stamper 🥰.. since then I've been addicted to all powders.. but I haven't played with them enough and this is perfect thank you so much.. and I wish you all the best 💞
Kirsty, Thank you for this video... I think?? I'm not quite sure if you just solved my problem. I'll tell you, and then maybe, you can tell me... lol When I use chrome or chameleon powder, sometimes foils too, getting the top coat to go on, is impossible. It won't stay in place, it retreats back the center of the nail, kind of how water and oil react to each other. Of course there is no oil, my guess is it's to shiny and well buffed from my burnishing. So, is this the same as you were talking about?? Now I have always under cured my no wipe for chrome as the time they said should work, is - as you had it, a struggle.. What i didn't do was put it back in the light after chroming - now if I were to do that, and then do a layer of base coat, I should be able to top coat - yes?? Is my problem solved?? But how would you solve the problem over foils? We have glue that you dont cure. I mean, i know there is curable glue but it should work with the normal stuff too. That stuff is so shiney, that trying to get my topcoat over it, doesn't work. And I've tried then all. Hard gel, no wipe, shiney in a bottle, they all pool back in spots over the nail. Trying Tack from L.E and Protein Bond from Y.N, just dulls and mutes your beautiful shiney finish - that top coat doesn't bring back. Sorry for this being long, I just realized as you fixed the chrome problem, I'm still stuck with the foil problem. Which might also be a nail wrap problem, but I don't use them, so I don't know. You might need to do another video... lmao 😄 If you dont mind... it would help so much. Thank you for this though, so helpful. You the best!! 😇
Great video, I am just starting out doing nails and love the Chrome look but didn't know how to properly apply it, This really has helped me so Thank you.I 👍
Heyyyyy!! Thank god for you I SWEAR!!! Questions: if you are wanting to apply chrome to detailed nail art, say flames for instance. Would you draw the design out in black gel, cure, then go over the design carefully with top coat? Or can you mix black gel n top coat to save time? Love you and you videos Lots of love Shite nail tech from Glasgow 💕
So true what you say about mistakes have already been made and unforgivable ones at that. It reminds me of a situation, a situation I’ll never be forgiving and karma will show them people that their a disgrace and shame on them for their disgusting false accusations. Their mistakes are to much to forgive. And that’s all I have to say on the matter. Also You’re a amazing nail artist and love your work you do on nail’s 💅🏻❤.
Thank you for your helpful explanation and tips, it worked really well but for the gold chrome powder there is a little bit of black in it , like not pure gold finish ,it is not strong as the silver one came out. I don’t know why.
There's no universal answer to this, the ideal thing would be to test different timings and pick the shortest time you can get away with that doesn't dull out the chromr
Hi Kirsty! Did you wipe off the sticky layer after applying the base gel to the chrome before you applied the last top coat? Thank you for this awesome video! I always learn so much from you.
How much is a full cure and an 'under cure' in seconds for this particular case? And what kind of cure is a 20 sec cure compared to the under and full cure? I need that info 😢
I've heard that several times (Chrome looks best applied over black) but if your nails aren't black, should I use a uv gel gloss black finish first and then apply a uv gel chrome after it is fully cured?
some years ago I also did the base coat trick after applying the chrome but it also chipped off after a few days. All it was left was the color underneath idk why. I have tried so many thing but it always get chipped off
I'm confused. I just watched another video saying that crome only sticks to buffed nails or matte coat. I'm so lost. The nail tech was doing designs, if that makes a difference.
So i wanted to try the base + top coat to cover my chrome, but mt base coat kinda floats on the chrome. Like water on glass(?). Is it the basecoat or is it normal and im just not quick enough in spreading the product??
I love how she casually splits the nail precisely in half lengthwise freehand with a foam applicator...
Everything she does seems effortless! Her talent is unmatched.

The most helpful tutorial !!
Brilliant tutorial! Learned something new today and for that I appreciate your time and effort to make this video.
This was very educational. I was hanging on your lips as you tell the different technics. I learned a lot from it. Thanks for this tutorial
Kristy! Thank you so much for this video! I absolutely love chrome and ive been struggling to get that beautiful finish. This is the best explanation I've seen! Thank you🥰
I love her videos. I had the same convo with the tech about the chrome and under curing the top coat and chrome.

Amazing tips, thank you! Have never been able to get chrome right but will definitely be having another go with these tips 😊
Thanks Kristy! Going to give your technique a try as I struggle with consistently using Chrome.
Thank you so much!!!

Thank you so much for teaching me this. I just got Chrome ❤️
Glad I could help! 🥰
I always use Light Elegance Power Bond over my chrome then top coat. Works a treat!
Do you use power bond all over the nail then cure it before top coat??😊
what top coat do you finish the chrome off with after the powerbond?
Thank you for that, got chrome nails that I could seethe particles on all nails wanted the mirror effect.
That sucks.. Seems like there's lots of nail techs that don't do chrome correctly and can't do cat eye gels either 🤷🏼♀️
Do you wipe off the tacky layer before the final top coat? 🤔
@@WENDDEAD No. I use the tacky layer to adhere the no wipe top coat
I'm going to have to try this.. thank you for sharing ❤
Would you mind explaining to me what "running my finger lightly down the sides before curing" means?
@@heatherw5793 I want to know, too.

Great information. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I so needed this exact video.
Thank God for base coat hack, ruined several top coats...thank you!
What base coat do you use?
Hiya Kirsty thank you for sharing this with us
Much love 🥰🥰
This is exactly what I needed to know. Thank you!
Glad the tutorial helped 😍 Thank you for watching
Omg I try it 😱 . I see 👀 the difference. Thanks.
Do u use base coar ? 😮
Thank you so much for your tip.
I love how you casually talk to the fake hand and apologize for the mess 😩😂
1:06 what do you mean when you say you base coated it because you don't want it to be sticky? Isn't the base coat sticky?

I have chrome nails done in the salon all the time, I'm hoping to learn how to do them myself so I can save some money
Thank you for the tips I really like them. Very helpful 22:54 Appreciate your time to teach me. ❤❤
Great info very helpful. J great advice. Thanks for sharing. 💖💖💖🤗
Thank you for your helpful explanation and tips, it worked really well but for the gold chrome powder there is a little bit of black in it , like not pure gold finish ,it is not strong as the silver one came out. I don’t know why.
So how long once you have cromed the nail do put it in the cure machine ? 😊
Thank you for this!😊
You rock kirsty ❤️
Could you use clear construction gel instead of base coat?
You confuze me😂😂😂😂 just show us the right way to do it and done ✅
Thank you so much for this information! ❤
Love chrome 😍
No wonder I got frustrated ! I didn’t play with it like this! I feel better now lol 😂❤
Hello, when you apply the chrome and put back to cure how long do you do this for? Also how long do you cure the base coat for please?
Now I know what I did wrong. Thanks Kirsty! btw. Madam Glam has chrome in a bottle. Do you have any experience with that? Thank you for the video ❤
R these all gel polishes ur using the black and top coat
If our top coat is a 60 second cure on the manufacturer label, do we cure for 40-50 seconds then chrome ? Or still do 20 seconds
Another great question, I wanna know this too. :)
There's no universal answer to this, the ideal thing would be to test different timings and pick the shortest time you can get away with that doesn't dull out the chromr
Love you’re video’s.
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it 🥰

Very good ❤❤❤❤❤
Can you finish with a 2 in 1 base and top coat instead of base then top? Or is your technique best for long lasting results.. thank you xxx
Can you use base/top in one?
So this needs to be done on gel not regular polish?
Awesome thanks
Does the top coat have to be a no wipe? Or can the tacky type top coat be used for chrome?
Hi Kirsty! Did you wipe off the sticky layer after applying the base gel to the chrome before you applied the last top coat? Thank you for this awesome video! I always learn so much from you.
Thats a good question, I'd like to know the answer too
Don’t need to.
No , that would defeat the purpose of using a base coat ( sticky ) before the top coat.
Fuzz!!! The struggle is real
Is this a non-wipe top coat you are using or a wipe top coat?
Its my non wipe Gloss topcoat 😀 www.kirstymeakin.com/product/kirsty-meakin-top-coat/
My nail technician made must special my chrome looked great and lasted to my next appointment
How long should the base coat be cured before top coat?

Same
Instead of base coat, can I use a wipe top coat?
Always use a base coat and Top coat 🥰
QUESTION for ANYONE: can you use mica powders that you use in resin? Thank you.
I keep going back but I can't find why the sprinkles of chrome on the basecoat brush is a problem. Help!
I've heard that several times (Chrome looks best applied over black) but if your nails aren't black, should I use a uv gel gloss black finish first and then apply a uv gel chrome after it is fully cured?
What do I do if the little applicator gets nail polish on it while I’m trying to apply the chrome?
I finally got my chrome down. My problem is when I put the top coat to “seal” it. It makes them a bit opaque. How to I fix this?😭
It it a very liquid top coat?
some years ago I also did the base coat trick after applying the chrome but it also chipped off after a few days. All it was left was the color underneath idk why. I have tried so many thing but it always get chipped off
Hiya Kirsty can you tell me why when I put black gel polish on my nails it's not taking properly, it's rippling even when iv put a thin layer on.
Mine gets dull once I apply the top coat .
I'm confused. I just watched another video saying that crome only sticks to buffed nails or matte coat. I'm so lost. The nail tech was doing designs, if that makes a difference.
I just want to cover my face in the rainbow chrome 😆
😂 I'm just picturing that 😂
@@KirstyMeakin it would stop my husband losing me in the supermarket 🙈
