What's YOUR favorite Shakespeare movie? Let us know in the comments!
I loved She’s The Man and Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride as well as West Side Story!
Lion King for sure
Please make a part 2
I remember studying "Hamlet" in school, and our teacher having us watch "The Lion King" to notice the parallels between the stories. Needless to say, it made English class all the more fun!
Your teacher made a wise decision.
We had to watch Twilight: New Moon in English because apparently it was similar to Romeo and Juliette
@@HopeGardner3amed That sounds painful. West Side Story would be better.
it's funny a semester of college i had to take a introduction o Shakespeare class and when we read hamlet i was instantly reminded of the lion king
@@HopeGardner3amed now i can understand some movies being like romeo and juliet but twilight now sure that's a good comparison jane L. is right west side story would of been better
Basically everything is inspired by Shakespeare. His entire catalogue covers all of human emotion.
very true after spending a college semester in a Shakespeare class we covered a lot of stories and you can take something as cheesy as lion king to something as big as star wars he covered a lot in all his plays with many different tragedies in stories
Here is the list:
10) Deliver us from Eva (2003)
9) Motocrossed (2001)
8) Get over it (2001)
7) O (2001)
6) Warm Bodies (2013)
5) The lion King (1994) (all time Disney classic)
4) She's the Man (2006)
3) Kiss me Kate ( 1953)
2) West side Story (1961)
1) 10 things I hate about you (1999) (all time favourite!!)
Here is the list people man this took while
Thanks ✌️
Shame My Own Private Idaho wasn't on the list
What about Clueless?
@@jjaraos4195 that’s Jane Austen
I had a feeling that Warm Body was inspired by Romeo and Juliet. I mean the girl’s name is Julie and the zombie is simply named R.
Precisely, apparently, Teresa Palmer, who played Julie, didn't realise that it was a modern retelling until halfway through shooting.
@@trinaq 😂😂😂 that’s funny!
If you didn’t know Warm Bodies was Romeo and Juliet you probably didn’t see it, the balcony scene made me realize it was. Then I realized they barely changed the characters names.
R-Romeo, Boyfriend
Julie-Juliet, Girlfriend
M (later Marcus)-Mercutio, Boyfriend’s best friend
Perry-Paris, Girlfriend’s ex/suitor, killed by Boyfriend
Nora-Juliet’s Nurse, Nora was/became a Nurse, Juliet’s Nurse was never given a name
I knew The Lion King is based on Hamlet. She’s the Man is a great movie, never knew Kiss Me Kate is based on Taming of the Shrew. But I knew all along West Side Story (1961) is based on Romeo and Juliet and another Taming of the Shrew references is of course 10 Things I Hate About You is the best.
The only way you can claim you didn't know these movies were based off of Shakespeare's plays is if you were too young to have learned who he even was upon first viewing of these movies. However, once you're familiar with his work, you can start to pick out how these movies were based off their respective plays.
How did a man from an ordinary background become highly educated, have an unusually large vocabulary & know a lot about royalty & the aristocracy?
Don't underestimate the education in those days. Plus, as an actor, Shakespeare had lot of contacts with experts (the watering holes of the law profession were popular places for theatrical performances for example). We can also spot Shakespeare's limits. E.g. he used a particular French textbook for two scenes in Henry V and misquoted it (so he did not speak French actively). Whether he knew Latin is not 100% sure (although it is likely that he knew the basics from school). His borrowings from Ovid are mainly from those parts that were available in translation at the time as is true for other stuff he took from antiquity. Some other stuff had already been adapted for the stage by others, so he could 'steal' from that. He was not an isolated genius but obviously functioned like a sponge taking in everything he came in contact with. Another reason not to believe in the strawman theory is that there is a clear progress along the line of the plays that can be reliably dated as far as the complexities you mention go. Had he been just a strawman for someone else (e.g. an aristocrat), we would not see that. In that case the numerous geographical blunders would also be absent (the multiple anachronisms in his Greek and Roman plays are less clearcut since those could have been partially deliberate).
Totally amazing video of great movies that in inspired by Shakespeare, fantastic job ms mojo.
10 things I hate about you deserves to be number 1💯🤗💝
Disappointed not to see Strange Brew (1983) on the list. It is the most disguised version of Hamlet I've ever seen.
James Cameron's pitch for Titanic: "This ship, Romeo and Juliet."
I remember motocrossed I watched that movie when I was a kid 🙂
Same! I didn't know it was inspired by Twelth Night at the time, but I had never heard of the play until I was older. I can see the similarities looking back now.
I definitely knew that she's the man was based on a Shakespearean play
Twelfth night. I hope it's on this list.
Next up “Top 10 Games You Didn’t Know Were Inspired by Shakespeare”. Super Paper Mario would definitely be number 1 on that list. Since it’s basically just a Mario Adaptation of the tragedy of “Romeo & Juliet”, but in a more colourful Mario style (even though this game also gets very dark at times). 💖 And to top it off, with a happy ending for the characters, Count Bleck/Blumière and Tippi/Lady Timpany. 💞
I absolutely love Kiss Me Kate... my grandma and mom raised us on old time musicals!
I love Shes the Man.
Love lion king💗
I knew. Mostly because I've read (and know) Shakespeare, and his themes. If I've seen the movie, I knew if it was a "take" on Shakespeare. That happens when one is, or has been, "well read".
My personal favourite Shakesperean-inspired film was Forbidden Planet from 1956. It was based upon The Tempest.
Considering the modern vitrial leveled at The Taming of the Shrew, I am surpised how many modern adaptations there have been. No objections, just surprised. Great list!
I love all of these movies and re-watch them often!!!!!!!
Top 10 TV Shows You Didn't Know Were Inspired by other TV Shows
MOST OF THOSE ARE uk counterparts like
SANFORD AND SON IS BASED ON British sitcom Steptoe and Son
OR All in the Family IS Based on the British sitcom Till Death Us Do Part
NCIS (JAG).
There are apparently people that don't know that Young Sheldon is a spinoff of The Big Bang Theory.
@@joshuadesautels that because the show was marketed as a prequel and it didnt had a laugh track!
Also, how did I miss "0" I don't even remember it being released. *Adds to must watch list*
I was trying to find films based off of the work of Charles dickens to see if there were enough to make a list. I had no idea Dark Knight Rises is said to be inspired by A Tale of Two Cities….weird
I'm a simple woman I see "Warm Bodies" I click
Same! 🙌
My favorite Shakespeare movie, West Side Story.
Close second, The Lion King.
Is there any other Shakespeare's play which hadn't been adapted to the big screen?
Strictly spoken those that are not lost (we know about at least two of those) all have been filmed at least once as stage adaptations.
But I assume you mean 'inspired by' without explicitly mentioning Shakespeare. My bet is that all of them were. In some cases one cannot be sure since the inspiration could as well be the stuff Shakespeare himself got inspired by (like Greek tragedy, Ovid, Saxo Grammaticus etc.). In case of doubt search in Japan. Kurosawa did at least three and those are just the most famous.
I thought it was pretty obvious Warm Bodies was inspired by Romeo and Juliet? I mean, with the main characters are called R and Julie, so...
Exactly, not to mention the actual balcony scene 💁
I had actually already known that Warm Bodies and Lion King 2 were inspired by Romeo and Juliet. I always thought those two were really obvious! So it surprises me when I talk to people who legit don't even realize that those were both takes on the famous Shakespear story!
I love The Lion King
Top 10 Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Songs
YES, PLEASE!!!!!
@@luciadilazzaro2285 Surprised they haven't done this yet
I already knew that deliver us from eva was based on the taming of the shrew I love that film 💝🥰
Even Teresa Palmer didn't make the connection for Romeo & Juliet in Warm Bodies. Just look at the names of their characters: R, Julie, Marcus, Nora and Perry. I mean really!
I watched O when I was a senior in high school for my English class
Was hoping to see "Forbidden Planet" which is based on "The Tempest".
1 2 3&5 are my top favorites.
knew lion king for hamlet but too many for romeo and juliet also taming of the shrew in yet amanda bynes in anything like she's the man brings hilarity and fun to the role
it's funny a semester of college i had to take a introduction o Shakespeare class and when we read hamlet i was instantly reminded of the lion king
Warm bodies ❤️❤️
I thought everybody knew that West Side Story was inspired by Shakespeare😅
My favorite movie is clueless july. 19. 1995. Jane Austen's Emma. Acila silver stone and Paul Rudd really great movie performances play roles in. 90's rom coms.
Warm bodies was basically Romeo & Juliet.
I already knew it.
SHE'S THE Man...my favorite Shakespeare. Move very interesting plot line really great performance actress actor made me laugh and smile. Rom coms.
Watched warm bodies yesterday and actually thought this has a Shakespeare/ Romeo and Juliet vibe to it
West Side Story should have legit been number 1!!!
Deliver us from Eva is such a good movie
I didn't realize that Warm Bodies was a Romeo And Juliet story, Although the couple's names are R and Julie.
Hold on, why does Scar have a British accent but Mufasa doesn't?
Please my idea for top 5 new movie based on book
Love west side story from 2021 💗
was I expecting Strange Magic (2015) to be here?!
I didn't know the lion king was part of the Shakespeare genre actually I didn't even know those movies were part of it I guess that's something how can the lion king be part of it
I can't believe Romeo and Juliet is inspired by Shakespeare
There was a porno version of The Tragedy of Cymbeline done in 1979 called "Taste My Rear"
I like the Disney Zombies movies . I'm waiting for the third one .
Is there a movie based on Macbeth?
I didn’t see Valley Girl with Nicholas Cage (R+J).
I love 10 things I hate about you but it should not have been higher than West Side Story!
And what about Forbidden Planet???
A sci-fi version of "The Tempest"
Yeahhhhhhh a lot of these aren’t too hard to figure out lol
No 'Gnomeo and Juliet'?
What about strange brew a retelling of hamlet

West side story stomps all over 10 things, even though it’s a damn good film.
"You don't deserve to live."
Most meta line ever said in a kids' animated film.
10 things I hate about you. Heath Ledger's best rom com. Change my mind ☺️.
West side story
She’s the man
10 things I hate about you
Remember God loves you♥️
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
If you trust in Jesus Christ and repent, you will be saved🙏🙏.
He is coming back soon🤗.....
I would have added in the honrable mentions Clueless, My Fair Lady, Valley Girl and Shakespear in Love
Those are not Shakespeare. Clueless is based on Emma by Jane Austen. My Fair Lady is based on the play Pygmalion, Valley Girl is based on another book, and Shakespeare in love isn't based on anything.
Lion King 2 should have been an Honorable Mention!
Lion king is based in West African legend
Warm Bodies was garbage.
