Bro in NJ we're allowed 600 pots. I'd come drop all 600 on your head and make you look stupid. Why you wasting so much gas driving away from the crabs? Get your gear in one spot and learn to pick.
Old video, limit here is 400 small mesh for soft shells or no limit hex and square mesh traps but I think 5$ each after 100 traps (residential). I'm no longer a blue crab deck hand but I can still go out and make videos of any videos I've put out there I never burn a bridge if I can help it, These days i'm a elver eel fisherman, thanks for watching more videos coming soon.
I don't particularly care for tearing a crab apart while its still living. I understand the need for cleaning and such, but cant they wait till its dead, or in a frozen sleep before the start ripping if apart.
Just curious are y'all having any trouble selling your crabs I haven't had any trouble I've had a buyer that's been buying my crabs for years but I was wondering how things were further up the coast Where You Are
@@EmpathVB chicken on a string works well and a dip net or a crab trap (x2) set on a 24 hour soak, this time of year crabs are in more fresher waters usually up near brackish but make sure crabbing is permitted and below the freshwater line because I think it's illegal to go above that boundary, hope this helps!
Look like you could afford a new crab tote and a new filler! That's the commonist set up for a cull boy I've ever seen!! You might wanna shorten you distance in between pots!! Codbag rig!!!
Hey question for you I just see him throwing all the crabs. 99 percent of the crabs into the basket and once in a while he'll throw one out what is no limit to how big they have to be before you can keep them
The wooden baskets are called a bushel and they generally hold around 35 lbs of crab. They've been used in crabbing for so long that the oldest crabbers probably don't know the exact answer to that question.
Hey I was just wondering where do you guys crab at in South Carolina I live in South Carolina. I am a commercial fisherman myself a crab in the Beaufort South Carolina area it's good to see you guys making videos so you can explain to these folks who've never done this before exactly what it is you do and how to do it keep up the good videos I really enjoy watching them too
Did you sell these or eat them? If you sold them, how much did you make and split between you both? Is this your permanent job? And where are you in this?
I'm the camera man/creator , I do various activities on the waterways and record that are somewhat exclusive or just cool, thanks for watching I'll try to get more videos in the near future!
Tim Ward got a few things in mind, money can be an issue just really trying I'd love a night vision camera and a editor but I'm trying, I really thank you all for being there and watching!
Arab Locs crabbing from land is difficult due to people stealing or vandalizing your traps and so on, if using a trap I recommend tieing it to something just below the low tide mark and use a hook to grab it but certain laws may apply due to marking the bouy but doubtful a ticket would be even issued as long as you have a SC salt fishing license, hope this helps!
Magic 1911 This information really does help. I'll look into getting proper licenses and go from there. Thanks once again and Happy Holidays. Great videos by the way
+Robert DuBois I agree but when people have to make a living they and it's legal people catch, but limits are getting more and some species are fluctuating but blue crab seem to always make a come back but I know what you're saying you don't see them at the beach or as plentiful as before I was born but I think it's pollution/chemical waste and not over fishing and or man made obstructions like dams and man made rediversions.
We quit commercial crabbing in the 90s because it got to territorial Mexicans were smashing pots and stealing we are thinking about getting back into it. Is it still a war out there ?
Yes it's still dog eat dog in the river, too many farmers in one field is the saying and oystering is even worse, all the laws and stipulations make making a living not possible... it's a dieing industry due to pollution and habitat loss, but some years are better than others but people that have been in the industry 30 years will tell you it's not the same, fortunately I moved on to a different fishery that's more peaceful.
Tim Ward long story short every year a new law is passed that makes the workday harder or not even possible, not just the commercial industry but the recreational fishery also.
where can I take my bass boat in Charleston with a friend to drop some crab baskets over the side? I was thinking up in the marshes somewhere but you boys are out there in what looks like deep water. Any help would be appreciated.
That seems like someone that just started crabbing and haven't gotten everything dialed in yet to move faster and better. Like a rake for corks, or table for grading crabs. I been a crabber in South Louisiana on and off my whole life and that a low end set up. But we all start like that. Best of luck to these guys. It's hard work
Its not the crabbers fault but man they need to limit the females. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out where the crabs have gone the last 5 years
@@Gr8videos I hope your right. I'm up around the gunpowder. They haven't made it up here yet. I would love to find a spot farther south close enough to run to in the morning..
Speaking as a commercial crabber/shrimper the video makes everything seem so easy and smooth great video
there is over one hundred and fifty traps a day and use three bushels of Bait, thank you for watching hope people really enjoy my videos!
I run 200 here in Georgia.
Another joke,,I'd used one bushel one fish per trap catch the same and use that same bait two days in a row
almost 10k views thank you everyone for making this possible, please subscribe more videos still to come!

Yes on that day I was sorting the crab and being a deck hand, thanks for watching will try to get some newer and more interesting videos asap!

Use to live in Beaufort in the 70s now on the west coast. Miss fishing, crabbing and shrimping. Great video
nursetomrn great oysters out there in Beaufort, thanks for watching!
Me too. The Marine Corps had me there for a couple of years in the 60's. Loved it.
Hey cat :) thanks for watching, share with your friends
Nice catch

So how is the crab business in Charleston brother are you guys making the cut or is it getting harder as anyone new moving in on your fishing grounds
Just curious are y'all having any trouble selling your crabs I haven't had any trouble I've had a buyer that's been buying my crabs for years but I was wondering how things were further up the coast Where You Are
+Tim Ward it's a dieing industry due to scdnr and other reasons
where i can buy from you ? didi you have web ?
What type of bait do you use and where are you crabbing at? Thanks
Manohadin I think is how you spell the bait fish name
That looks good. All big crabs. Sweet!
.
Hey brother about how many crab pots were y'all fishing.
I assume that those baskets hold one bushel each?
what are your prices for nr one size blues per bushel?
Is that regular uncoated chicken wire traps?
Don't think so, it's reinforced coated wire and braced
. I'm in Maryland and crabbing here has been way down ever since the mid 90s. Love the She Crab soup in SC!
Do you make a living crabbing?
It's always nice to be on the water...Even though you guys work incredibly hard I envy you...
I believe this,,but Don't envy,,copy
Do you catch for Marvin's Seafood? Welch's? H&J? H&L?
I used to, I moved into a different fishing profession that was more profitable.

Them stone crabs your breaking the claws off of?
Yes
Does your boat have a leak or did some water spill in? How much was the boat, it’s nice.
It's made that way its self draining, it's a Carolina skiff they can be cut in half and not sink

5 inches point to point is the size limit and females are usually over 5 inches, thanks for watching.
@2:00 that male didn't want out of that hex mesh.
What Boat Are You Using?
Carolina skiff 21 foot
magic 1911 can you please tell me why those wooden buckets are so popular in crabbing to
Marion Sauer I'm guessing because they're cheaply produced and allow the crabs to get air flow, in the farming industry they use a similar basket
The wooden baskets are called a bushel and they generally hold around 35 lbs of crab. They've been used in crabbing for so long that the oldest crabbers probably don't know the exact answer to that question.
what is the name of the white crate you use in this video looking for a lid for mine
I'm not sure, they were discontinued we were told or something. . . I could be wrong.
+Magic 1911 maby so
They're called lugs and you can still get them. Fishermen here in Louisiana use them.
Love buying a bushel straight from the watermen off the Chesapeake here in Maryland.
wow so many crabs
.now that's crabbing cuz.

Man that's getting down right there bro on the blue crab
iS THIS THE EAST COAST OR WHAT. I UNDERSTAND THAT BLUE CRAB ARE EAST COAST CRAB, WHILE DUNGENESS IS WEST COAST.
East coast
Don’t u have size limit some look really small
Terry Lusk the size limit is 5 inches point to point.
Do you all think it's possible to crab or shrimp without a boat in SC?
Arab Locs yes, but not commercially but if it's a private dock/location then also yes.
Thanks so much. I am beginner and looking for locations to begin shrimping and crabbing.

Country Living thank you!
What do yo think your total haul in pounds was for this video?
Keith Tucker not really sure, we usually go by the bushel not the poundage, thanks for watching more videos coming soon!
You ever try using a trotline?
No, but wouldn't mind trying it someday
how big is your boat?
21 foot Carolina skiff with 150 Yamaha four stroke
An here in Florida on the Gulf side blue crabs are being taken to extinction.
Here too, pollution and too many licenses and peelers I think affect the species.
I love this video. Best one I seen & I support u fuys catching female n all. Bitches are the best😂😂
Love blue crabs more than anything,,,Can,t get live ones up here in Maine
+Gary Coulombe dang, how about elver eel?
We have plenty of them a little north of me, I,v never tried them
+Gary Coulombe cool there's a fishery here also, about to head out blue crabbing today things are slow they are about to egg and soft shell
great
good luck
Yes, the price varies.
I like the video , but I really wish you guys would throw the females back. Blue crab populations are dropping and that's not a good thing.

yes, it's allowed by law here.

water too deep for a rake plus they get paid way more than us lol they dont have to run 800 a day
they catch 20 bushels on the east coast they making good money you catch 20 bushels here you in the hole
i wanna experience that
That whole operation is some janky shit goddamn
You hiring?
No sorry, I mostly film and document
Magic 1911
I appreciate the response 🙏🏻
Think how good you would have done if you had clean pots.
Travis B the traps are clean now, we high pressure washed them all
Don't like using bleach it's highly toxic to shellfish, but in the past was effective we prefer straight high pressure salt water pressure washer
And yes Evan this is cat or mangle
Whatever salt river/boat landing is closest to your location.
thanks!

It is here too, I just named the video that like a dummy :)
who cares
@@edbernard2513 people who care
taken to much of the female 5 to1 thats not good
there is no limit here, soft shell crabs are majority female also
Since when is it legal to keep female crabs.
In South Carolina it was never illegal
It’s only illegal to keep females if they have eggs on em. At least in the state of Texas
Cull them crabs faster
Yer sinking and yer shit's falling apart
The boat is foam filled and isn't my boat, but thanks for the comment Gary.
It's unsinkable
Looks like Gary doesn't know about Carolina skiffs.
Bilge pump needed? Lol
Tried it bilge pumps fail due to debris, it's a self draining foam filled boat has 3 drain holes in bottom transom.
mostly females
That should be illegal to keep all those female crabs. No wonder crabs are harder to catch.
Then there wouldn't be a seafood industry, pollution and industrialization is the problem not the crabber, or Virginia crabs 3 inch limit.
