We found Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Hell House" location!

Two months ago during a trip to Jacksonville, FL. We thought to look for the site of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Hell House" A quick Google search lead us in the right direction, but once we arrived, it turns out the land is now part of a private, gated community.
We couldn't believe that we drove an extra hour out of our way and couldn't get to the actual site. It was just a few hundred yards beyond a gate that we couldn't get through.... We decided to wait by the gate for a resident to come home, and then follow them inside.
It only took about ten minutes, when we saw a work truck pull up and the gate began to open. I followed the truck closely through the gate, and found the site within a few minutes!

This really needs to be designated as a public historical park and used as such, with boat access only. One can understand why the community gate. You wouldn't want your neighborhood overrun by curious people, with some of them parking on your lawn, making noise, etc. There has to be some way to preserve this hallowed ground and have people be able to visit it. Boat access would work, and keep people from bothering the neighborhood. The property is for sale. We can only hope the right person or organization buys it and keeps fighting the homeowners association who is causing a lot of trouble.

Just read that the subdivision (whom owns NONE of the land the sign is on) is trying to get the sign taken down cuz they “dont want strangers driving thru their neighborhood” i dont understand how you could KNOW the history of a location, KNOW that its popular, and whine about it like a child…. HOA needs to be shut down all they do is stir up trouble

Looks like they ruined that wonderful farm. I liked it before they built all them houses. The band should of bought that property and kept hell house and made it a museum or recording studio. Now that gated community will not want fans going to the dock. It should be accessible to everyone. I saw a video of hell house right after the plane crash in 1977 the property and hell house were very neat and very well kept along with the dock. From the old news video hell house would be on that white houses property. It was almost diagonal to the dock. What a sad way too see it disappear, Just like the members of the band. The next thing they will do to stop people from coming is to destroy the dock! If i lived there and wasn't a fan and didn't want people trespassing all the time that is what I'd ask the community to do. I really hope they don't do that as I'm a huge fan, I'm sad as it is hell house is gone. Thank you for the video! It's really great to see how fast they built up the whole farm.
