Gigacasting front and rear units make for a very solid car. My wife's MY is quiet with no rattles. We met someone with a 2021 MYLR that was astounded with how much improvement in ride and lack of rattle. Have a great trip!
Are the Fremont builds all single piece casting front AND back? I don’t believe so … also everyone who drives the Austin ones that are with the structural battery pack say they can’t feel or tell any diff between that and the Fremont ones. Thoughts?
@@raheeb1 Ours is from Austin with the 4680 structural battery pack. I haven't driven a Fremont version, but can only convey the comment that ours is rattle free and feels "tighter" than the pre gigacast models. This could certainly make for an interesting video comparison.
@@raheeb1 From what I've heard, about any time that the airbags deploy, the vehicle is totaled, regardless of whether it's electric, gas or diesel. I'm more concerned with the safety of my wife and the Model Y 5 star crash rating is much better than her older SUV.
I was all excited to show my wife South of The Border, a staple of my childhood trips to Florida from Long Island. She thought I was nuts when I was reading all the billboard signs along the way and when we finally got there, she had the same reaction as Kathy! We never even got out of the car.
I've had a Model Y Dual Motor Long Range with 19" wheels now for 7 months. I've gotten similar impressive efficiency and range numbers on road trips. And no creeks or rattles, not even any uneven panel gaps. I couldn't be more pleased. The Supercharger network is spectacular!
Love out of spec, Kathy, she keeps Dave leveled out well maybe. I love the dig you gave Kyle about to clean windshield. I often commented on Kyle’s videos about his lack of a clean windshield. L O L.😂
True Out-of-Spec-style. Enjoyable, and it is obvious where Kyle got his talent from - and where he still could learn from. And BTW: „Pay by the half-hour“ made my day. 😍
I’ve had to replace my spoiler twice. The part cost $800. I’ve scratched it twice with my garage door. It’s starting to come off again and will be replaced under warranty but still. If I were you, I would just buy the acceleration boost and be done with it. You do not need a spoiler.
Always fun to watch you road trip. You made a good call on the Laurel stop. Although Abington is near shopping and Starbucks, once you exit I-95 you have about a 10 minute drive to go the final ~1 mile because of the traffic lights. Yeah… if you’re south of DC in the Dumfries area, it has forever, inexplicably, been solid jam traffic there.
I took delivery of my 2023 MYP in late March. I changed my order from the LR in order to get my car sooner. I agree with your discussion regarding the differences in these two variants. The MYP is a beast that in my opinion, is well worth the $4k up charge. If a rear-end carbon spoiler increases your passion for the car and you're okay with the $800 price tag, then go for it. In essence, you're validating one of the reasons why I'm so happy with my MYP.
That 20% or lower limitation on Dog mode, only applies while not charging, it should work while charging, I believe that is what I experienced with my 2023 Tesla model Y long Range AWD on my last 3500km road trip.
Dave, totally agree with you. They improved the suspension and ride. I used to have a 2021 MY 19” and the 2023 model is better. I originally bought with 20” wheels and ended replacing to 19”. Much quieter and better ride IMHO.
Dave, From West Hartford CT.we have a new Y we picked up in May. Have a Tesla charger on the side of our house. Traveled to Cape NJ and had no problems charging. We're retired so we have lots of time and small bladders so stopping to recharge is not an issue. Recently went to Hamonasset state park in CT. Happy to see they have several free chargers. We enjoyed the lovely beach and soaked up lots of free electricity. Appreciate your explanation about calculating range. One thing is the Tesla navagation is not as good as Google maps. For example along CT route 9 Tesla has not updated to the renumbering of exits. Last week I volunteered to take veterans fly fishing. One vet had walking issues. I drove down some slippery rough dirt roads. The 4 wheel drive was great. Thanks
Glad to see your new Y is doing super well. Hopefully I am picking up my new Model X today in Schaumburgh. I've had a 3 and a Y and want some new adventures with the X. Always enjoy your videos. Regards.
Great video, I got the MYP a month ago and it's a lot of fun. It looks amazing with the bigger wheels and red calipers. The ride quality is excellent too. I rarely see another performance model but I see long ranges everywhere so the extra $4k is definitely worth it imo. I'm getting 250-260 real world range on my MYP with a wh/mi of 275.
@13:25 I love my 2022 Model Y long range with 19" wheels, but the suspension for me is borderline awful. I drive in NYC and can feel every bump as compared to my 2000 Lexus RX300 that I rode for 20+ years before buying the Tesla. It's not so much the up and down bumps actually that is the problem but the jerking that just thrashes myself and my passengers from side to side on city streets. The Model Y is great on the highway but for local roads - not so much. I would upgrade to air-suspension in a heartbeat if Tesla offered it. I know there are 3rd party suspensions out there but I don't want to void my warranty and/or use something that has some unintended consequence like a hit to range unless it was designed by Tesla engineers.
Your hitting the same stops we had on our recent trip to Sarasota Florida and back from NJ. The route we took was, after the Delaware bridge, we went south on Rt 1/301 all the way down to the Richmond beltway, bypassing all the traffic (and tolls) of Baltimore and Washington. Much more relaxing than sitting in stopped traffic and the high tolls for the express lanes. We got the same 280w/mi over the 2500 mile trip with the same spec Model Y.
I thought it was cute how your wife reacted, when you pulled into " South of the Border ". That place looks fun from 95, but when you pull into the parking lot, you're like, " Oh, my ". If you're traveling at night, the Pedro tower looks awesome, all lit up.
watching the car shake as you hit bumps is all I needed to see, thanks. even in the view from the rear you can see the seats shaking, though maybe that is the camera without hypersmooth turned on.
I have the MW03 18" Martial Wheels on my 2021 Tesla Model Y Performance. My efficiency improved by like 10-15% and the ride quality is significantly better. I love my model Y performance! You don't see them very often so it is nice having that line below the dual motor and the carbon fiber spoiler as something to differentiate mine from the rest!
THANK YOU for sharing this trip on YT; it has given me lots of food for thought and encourages me that a long trip in the Tesla should be a good experience, even were my wife and I to decide to take our three cats. I'll just need to get a big cage to fit in the back of the model Y (one should never drive with cats loose in the car).
I take Butterfly, my 50’ RottieDor, everywhere, even twice from SoCal to Austin/Starbase in my Mar’22 M3P & Sep’22 MYLR. She loves napping & sightseeing in her soft kennel in the right rear. It has zippered mesh top & sides, so your 3 cats sb fine in it. Enjoy your road trips!
Love your videos as well. You guys are fun to watch and love to learn about your MY long range. We are waiting for our MY LR to come in so it’s great learning about your experiences! Keep it up!
Love the road trip videos! My fiance (and baby) did a portion of this trip a few weeks back (NYC to Atlanta to Charleston and back) in our 2020 Model 3 Long Range, that car's last road trip before we picked up our 23 Model Y LR. Great stuff!
Dave, great video. Your ideal SC location is similar to ours. Right off the Interstate, fast food and/or snacks, restrooms nearby,, and most important - a dog area for our two Westies to stretch their legs!
Heard forward collision warnings at around 49:00 twice. Avoiding it will help you get a better safety score & lower premiums. Not if you live in California like me :( .. I keep 99-100
I updated a spoiler and the pedals on my 2023 model Y. I didn’t want the performance due to I park off road. Custom features allows you to find your car in the parking garage.
Dang, just loved this session, was excited to watch this trip, thoroughly enjoyed part 1 half way there, drive safely and enjoy life. Wife said she would allow me getting a Tesla if we got a dog, this is the beginning of my part 1.

Hi Dave, the Hilton in Marco Island has Tesla’s destination chargers available for everyone, they don't show up in plugshare but I used them twice last week 👌
This video brought back memories of the old out of spec with Kyle and Alissa. The whole reason why I subscribed in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I love the new style of videos, but the old school road tripping is missed.
Dave great trip better than the last one you made. I grew up in Roanoke Rapids back in the 70’s and 80’s. I remember seeing the Pedro signs when I was young traveling south on I 95 and thought what a place it must be. Then I remember the first time I saw it when I was 20 years old and just had a big smile and laughed loudly as I drove by waving at Pedro.
hey dave we have 22 model s we have a home in Cape coral and in N.Y....FYI...go to Sharkys on the beach in Venice...free charging at the beach and no charge to park..plus great restaurant and bar with good food..great beach day we are headed back down next month..drive safe!
Took the rwd lfp Model 3 on a little road trip yesterday. Used 45% to go 110 miles with speeds between 60 and 80mph. Did have to use the juice to pass a few people. Didn't think that was bad with a car full of people and i was driving it like i'd drive a fossil.
I would drive by South of the Border everytime I drove down from NY. I couldn't believe at the amount of billboards they have posted as you get closer. I always thought the place was closed because I never saw anyone there. I guess I'll have to stop there...lol

No, you’re not a ‘poser’ with a spoiler on a non performance Y. The underline under the Dual Motor logo for a non performance Y would be a poser to me. Got MY in Feb so missed out on some more savings and hardware 4. But it’s a joy to drive every time.
You mentioned an even better reason for arriving with a buffer: dog or camp mode not working under 20%. Depending on how quickly you want to be able to walk away from the car with it having climate control or take a cool nap, you may want to time your arrival to coincide with your charge dipping down to around 20%. Also, your passengers' peace of mind should be considered especially if you don't want to risk getting a piece of their mind.
by the time you get the LR with the upgrade wheels and white interior you at the same price as the performance so you don,t have to spend money on the spoiler and metal pedals ETC
Love Kathy

Go get the carbon fiber spoiler.
I wish we were able to get closer to the posted range that Teslas has on their website, without having to drive less than 55 mph and the climate off.
by the time you get the LR with the upgrade wheels and white interior you at the same price as the performance so you don,t have to spend money on the spoiler and metal pedals ETC
I haven't finished the video but i hope you add in the cost of all the supercharger stops so we can compare was a fossil car would cost in comparison.
THANK YOU
love to see both of you... from Malaysia with Love
If you ran out of charge on the road , I hope there would be some way to gat a boost.
Surprised there is not an exception to enable Dog Mode once you are plugged in.
