With the magnus vs kasparov debate. Do you think it makes a difference that magnus came later and has looked at kasparov's games and learned from his ideas and, more importantly, had the opportunity to study and prepare using extremely strong engines?

    • @JackMott

Magnus benefits from the entire world of chess knowledge, kasparaov, other greats, engines, etc. So comparing them is hard, you can compare relative performance but then you have the complication of more modern players competing against a bigger world of chess players. So even if say, Fischer had the best relative performance, he was competing against less total humans trying to get good at chess. Outliers in the past are going to be more common than now.

It could also be cool to see an AlphaZero vs. The World simultaneous event where anyone can play a game which will be used to train a version of the system to play against players of known ratings.
