  • I'm not a fan of microtransactions in almost any form, but it makes me especially mad to see microtransactions in $70 games. DLC that adds meaningful content for the consumer is fine, but cosmetics and boosts for story-focused games are absolute trash.

    Since SBI,DEI, and BRIDGE is mostly involved with recent games, it has never been so easy to finally stop buying said games.
    A clear example being DC's SSKTJL. The game isn't just a steaming pile of do do, it's storyboard is written literally by people with a degree in gender studies.
    And going even further back, DC's Gotham Knights, which they also were involved in.
    The only games I currently own right now are from old systems, PC and Nintendo Switch. Used to be mainly an XBOX and Playstation guy but since they went down the drain, I dropped them.
    Not only I'm saving money big time by not buying their slop, also on the pointless online memberships.
    And now I can actually focus on growing my catalog for the aforementioned systems.

    I disagree. There should be 0 MTX in a full priced game. Especially if you're buying a bullshit deluxe edition or gold edition or butt monkey edition. The problem with "just cosmetics" is it exposes the haves and have nots in a game. There is a good video on Jimquisition, about how cosmetics can be predatory through peer pressure, there's also the whole FOMO aspect. Though if any, ANY, of the money actually went to devs, I could remotely support a little bit, but it just all goes into greedy shareholders and execs pockets. They don't want a successful game that gets them some money, they want a game that gets them ALL the money. Fuck triple cAAApitalism.

    games should never be 70 bucks if they dont improve on what was built off of lower-priced games. Elden Ring is really the only game I think deserved to be 70 bucks, and it actually was not, so my point still stands that high-budget gaming companies should either think of the players first or quit trying to make a product that ultimately will be met with less than stellar reviews. Truthfully if Indie devs had the resources to make AAA-like games, they could probably make the best games in the industry. But eh who cares here is the next Call of Duty at 70 bucks thats an unoptimized boring yearly released trash game with a deluxe version that is 120 dollars cuz why not?

    • @retroreviews_
      @retroreviews_  2 месяца назад +1

    We should just boycott all the games that push that nonsense of microtransactions. Hopefully that movement will gain traction with time as more and more people become sick of it. Better yet is to boycott most of the big corps creating games and support more of the smaller devs. Bigger corps can't come up with any decent stories anyway.
    Another aspect to take into consideration of microtransactions and why everyone is jumping on the band wagon is money laundering. You can launder large sums of money through microtransactions a lot easier than selling copies (Some of those whales are not real users) A lot of "interesting" things happen in microtransactions and mobile games. One mobile company you never heard of was called Playtika. It was sold for 4$ Billions. Was it worth it or what was really going on there. Anyway, great video as always!

    All I’m saying is, I’ve been pushed towards more creative means of accessing certain titles and their associated features should there be an obscene breach of decency/respect. And if unable, skip out entirely. Matter of principle. Lots of options out there, for now anyway. I’m sure if they had their way that wouldn’t be a possibility. Pretty sure I left a beefy remark about this on another video of yours, so I wont recycle that. Sad times, eh? On the bright side, I recently named my newborn RetroReviews.

    Honestly I never got it why people would buy a game for 70$ and then pay some more for skins, weapons, battle passes and etc. because I already paid for this product (or service), there's no way I'm paying for anything else. It happened with Payday 2 when DLCs became like updates and you had to pay 5-10$ every time new one dropped, it happened with Dead by Daylight when they release new UPDATE and all characters in it are locked up behind insane amounts of grind or paywall, Killing Floor 2 had the same issue with paid weapons. There's 0 excuse to the fact that I own the game and you ask me to pay for in-game thing that must be there in a first place. You're getting your money from sales and if you dare to add microtransactions I'm not buying this game at all.

    • @retroreviews_
      @retroreviews_  2 месяца назад +2

      It is so baffling. If you're buying a full priced game you should get all the content as part of the experience, not locked behind a paywall. It sucks worse when a game that was full priced at one point goes free-to- play so devs can justify heavy monetization. Rainbow Six Siege is a prime example - it feels like they're taking away features you used to have just to sell them back to the players in battle pass nonsense.

    This video is a fantastic snapshot in to why these horrible business practices exist.
    Americans cannot fathom that these things don't have to exist. For everything you criticise you make sure to add "I understand why they are there." Even to the point of arguing for AI input being featured in indie games. You do know that this will affect the workforce of a company regardless of the size of the project, don't you?
    Everything that you've criticised each represent a breadcrumb on the road to economic devistation. From microtransactions, to subscriptions, to AI creators, to AI companies being ran for a few people, solely on algorithmic policies. This is the future. At this point it's too late to focus on microtransactions because the American media failed to address them early enough.

    I avoid games with excessive DLC/MTX. If I see a game with Denuvo and/or always-online and on top of that it's also selling you dozens of DLCs, I am out. You can thank the mainstream consumer btw, for this shitshow. Games went entirely mainstream in the early 2010s due to evergrowing ad campaigns (including VGAs) and the rise of mobile gaming. The average consumer just doesn't care. The average consumer has no concept of time, quality or passion. It's all about "entertainment" and nothing more.
