    I want you to know you saved my bacon 🥓 the explination of the 3/4/5 i needed to think it through but had a slab poored that needed some math to get the framing right. This video was exactly what i needed to work with my brain fog. Thank you

    You are absolutely correct bro. This is what I do before I snap a house out an detail it. Only thing I did different was I'd have the labor burn my tape 1' just because I never liked using the end of my tape to square a slab. But ya, snap the longest wall off your crows foot and the carpet guys are happy, floor tile guys, and if you can read a level when you plum & line whoever roofs the house will be happy . Gotta be square. Good video homie.

    The dimensions of a building should always be face of framing to face of framing- not finish. You want your framing to be flush with foundation. OSB or plywood substrate should extend beyond foundation 7/16 or whichever thickness to keep water away from foundation and sill plate. Many ways of doing it- but I prefer this way!

    your a genius I just ran into this problem I wish I would of saw this video earlier believe me one of my measurement came out by 1 in off and I had a wavy wall for an add on and when I put the subfloor on I had to cut and fit every board over I was a long 2 days off work but we finished it this is a better idea love it will try this the next time I run into this

    Hi Kody. Thanks so much for the wisdom in the video. I am building a house on a heavy duty trailer. The subfloor frame I built to put the floor sheathing on is not a perfect square. Should I make the AdvanTech sheathing square with the trailer or square with the deck I built on top of the trailer?

    • @uptokode
      @uptokode  3 года назад

      I would make the frame for the subfloor (the long sides) parallel with the trailer frame. Then I would make the sheeting square on top of that so your walls and roof are nice and square. Does that help?

    Aight cool man. I just had to make sure I was thinkin right. I actually frame been doin it ten years. I'm just gonna pull down nine ft. Make some kinda mark square mark. And where ever my 15 ft from the 9/12/15 intersect I pop my line through and make all my numbers the same? Or should I pop my wall then check and adjust?

  • @Richardson501
    @Richardson501 4 года назад +1

    I've got a problem in that my numbers aren't working. My carport is 22 x 20 and when I check square, it's off by 3 to 9 inches. So I went 22 x 22 and times one side by 1.414. This gave me 31.14 so my square is 31 x 31. Re measured and it was off by 5 inches. I don't have any more hair to pull out.

    • @uptokode
      @uptokode  4 года назад

      Sounds frustrating! I have other videos on using the 3-4-5 method. You could check to see what corner is sqaure. That will tell you what other ones are out.

    • @tiffanywall4178
      @tiffanywall4178 Год назад

      Always pull you numbers from the inside of the building, not the outside corners. Never try an square up something by pulling off the outside corner.

    Just had a garage pad with stem wall poured. It's supposed to be 24*28. Ended up 24*27'11"*24'*28 3/4. Measures perfect diagonally. Almost a parallelogram. Struggling with squaring it up

    • @uptokode
      @uptokode  4 года назад

      I had that happen once! It took a few hours to get it right. You need to “happy medium” the building on the foundation. Meaning some walls will overhang the foundation and others might be in from it. That’s in order to get proper dimensions and to make sure it’s square to the world!

  • @ThorsgaardFoundry
    @ThorsgaardFoundry 5 лет назад

    I'm not dissing your video, but half way through, before you brought the Pythagorean theorem into your video, I was saying to myself, "what if the contractors doing the pad made a nice parallelogram for your base? The 3-4-5 method is fricking foolproof! Nice video though, I would have never thought to use a chalk line as an absolutely accurate way to start!

    and after it that the square is in the right place not moved

    How would you square it if your foundation was on concrete walls that were at different elevations?

    • @uptokode
      @uptokode  10 лет назад +4

      For different elevations I would do the 3-4-5 method in at least 2 of the corners. If those are square and all your dimensions are correct you should be good. Sometimes a guy has to use a level to plumb up or down and possibly the use of string lines. Hope that helps.

  • @OneGrainYT
    @OneGrainYT 3 года назад +1

    The 3,4,5 don't work on a complete square okay. You will always get it wrong

    • @uptokode
      @uptokode  3 года назад

      If you start with 1 square corner and measure everything parallel from the 2 walls that make that corner..then you will have a square building. But it’s always best to verify the 4 wall dimensions and THEN do a diagonal measurement for verification.

    • @OneGrainYT
      @OneGrainYT 3 года назад

      @@uptokode you will still be off. 3,4,5 format is like breathing. Squaring a building is different. You run a line in the middle first, and one across in the middle. Like a + plus. Then you use 6,8,10 to square. Try for yourself and see how easier squaring is.

    • @OneGrainYT
      @OneGrainYT 3 года назад

      Masons rather breathing a building because it takes less time. But you have to start from the middle my friend.
