I was 15 in 1980 when I heard this song for the first time on the Making Movies album. The beauty and simplicity of this song touched my heart. I still cry when I hear it all these years later. Thank you Mark for making music that has had such an impact on me! ❤🎵🎸🎼🥰

This song still makes me cry over a lost/missed love. We were great friends, but there was always the sense it could be more. One night when I was at his place he put this song on and sat close behind me. The atmosphere was heavy with unexpressed emotion. It WAS that the time was wrong - we missed our chance. He died a few years later.

I saw Dire Straits at Woburn Abbey on the most glorious day in June 1992. It remains one of the most wonderful days of my life, and im now 65 and still loving Mark's music. My son was born the year after that concert, and now he plays guitar too, and his father plays saxophone and flute in a Dire Straits tribute band! Thank you, Mark, for all the wonderful music. Makes you think back to that someone we all keep locked away in our hearts, the love of our youth. Hundreds of years after Shakespeares writing of it we still read and watch it to this day. I hope this brilliant piece of music along with its author is given the same respect.

The irony of Mark Knopfler writing the perfect love song containing the words "I can't write a love song the way it's meant to be"!. I'm sure many of us have our own Juliet (or Romeo or Jenny) that we can't do anything but love and miss and kiss through the bars of a rhyme, till we die, and this song perfectly encapsultes those emotions. Personally, I prefer the version from the "All The Roadrunning" live recording, with the superb piano intro and the electric guitar outro, but any versin of this that Mark sings brings a tear to my eye. Juliet, I miss you.

The resonator hits hard. Every time I hear this song my heart starts to fly and I can feel tears forming. Legends live forever
I'm a fan of the arts but for the most part it's a nice to have not an essential. But this man's music has been an essential for many years. I can't imagine life without the pleasure of listening to decades of his wonderful compositions, each of them stirring up memories of the time. This tune coincides with a very sad period of my life, but I still welcome and love listening to it. Thank you Mark.

Mark Knopfler made me buy a house in Scotland in the early 90's, after I watched 'Local Hero'. Being English, I expected a rough reception in the Highlands. The most welcoming, warm people I have ever met and the most tranquil time of my life. Don't always believe what you read. Never been sadder to leave somewhare. My telephone number had three digits and I felt transported to a more innocent time.
