  • Today our buddy Scott Seales is back on the show to discuss his bread and butter - hunting mature bucks on feed trees! Most of our past guests who talk about feed trees come from a big woods, riverbottom setting - but Scott has found success with this tactic in hilly pine country in central Alabama. This is a must-listen episode of you are wanting to target feed trees for mature bucks! Subjects include:
Why you NEED TO BE hunting mornings in early season
Feed trees in TIGHT SMZ's or very skinny hardwood bottoms
Finding THE feed tree that a mature buck is bedding close to
How Scott finds feed trees then runs his "circuit"
How positive and negative terrain are FLIPPED in early season
Finding low spots that COLLECT ACORNS and attract bucks
Using THICK pines to get in tight to bucks without being detected
Why early season feed trees are the best time to tag your target buck
What. buck sign Scott needs to see in conjunction with feed sign to get him excited
Do bucks prefer feed trees on STEEP slopes?
and TONS more. We know a lot of listener success stories will come from this episode! If you get something out of it, make sure you share it with a buddy.
Listen to more from Scott in episodes 428 and 435!

Omg I was in my summit one evening an kept falling asleep. I was scared I’d wake up at 10pm with a search party shining flashlights at me. I set my alarm for 2 minutes after shooting time. 😂

Just to let you guts know I was listening to your podcast and heard the "feed tree" advice. I went out looking for "feed trees' and found a few. One of them made a nice set up based on the wind and along came four bucks. Opening day Wisconsin no less.

I can see what Scott’s saying about the hardwood tops out there. You find high protein green briar is one of the few things that grow under it like little browse plots. Now I’m not totally against doing pine with fire in areas with some faster growing hardwoods like maple and sweetgum that shows up anyways. Just because the amount of phosphorous available from the regrowth. But cutting older growth forest these days just shouldn’t happen.

      Stream side management zone.
Logging operations cannot log too close to stream or water source.
The only mature trees that do not get cut.
