I LOVE your attitude matey!!! Wish more HAMS had our likemindedness.... Radio comms is radio comms. That's what HAM radio is all about ===> Fun and experimentation with communications.
I have been on amateur radio since 1995. I started off on a 27MHz radio to communicate with a mate and the rest is history. So yes I started there also. I had not been on CB for many years now, but recently picked up a Uniden AX144 as it was available and also a good radio. Yesterday I just purchased a grant just like yours. I bought it knowing it has no TX audio as I have wanted a project to do some work on. I know the grant is a classic CB radio and are getting hard to come by. I am looking forward to getting this one going. I have used one in the past back in the day and have always loved the sound and quality of the grant you talk about. Thanks for posting this. Looking forward to getting mine and restoring it. 73's.
That was me on the radio ol mate Charlie Tango 01 (Rugrat) Ian waving to you from Darwin !!!!! great video mate !! good to see that you remember where you came from !!!
I have one of these in mint condition which is unmodified, like yours. I was able to obtain it new old stock a few years back. Like you, I don't use it much being a ham radio operator. However, I retired recently and moved to a semi remote island off the north end of Vancouver Island. A ham radio friend of mine who lives a few miles away across the water has a CB radio he likes to play with so I told him I'd dig this one out of my packing boxes and give it a try. I'll have to put together a dipole or something for that band. I really like the styling of this radio over the newer Grants. As I recall, the performance was excellent with super sensitive receive...Ivan VE7IVN
Yes, a superb radio. Where they ever sold as a President in VK land?! Agreed one the Galaxy range, had one and the receiver was soo harsh, dragged in all the noise of the day..
It supper radio I have lots of this set and different grants yer Don't do mods just leave it as it is nice to keep it as original. Keep away from Facebook and twitter and spend more time on CB and Ham. Happy New year 73s 🇬🇧
I used to own a Grant with an external Digiscan. I got out all over the place just using a 4 foot Francis whip on the hatchback of my 1985 Mustang GT. One of the best radios I ever had. I don't like the looks on the newer Uniden Grants. 73's from 225 Western North Carolina USA and Happy New Year.
What I do when the idiots get too much on 35 is go to 16. I'm in VK3 and the Eastern states can get very rowdy on 35 but on 16 there's (of course) less people but better people and I usually end up having a good contact there. 35 is best in the morning with less people. I have a few CB's and 2 ham radio's (FT 817nd and a Qmac). My go to CB is my Hornet 2. I'm an F call ham VK3FIMD and CB call, AC 548.
Nice vid mate. I’ve just score a Grant President that I’m looking forward to hooking up for a home cb. With the 3 power plug pins do I just use the outer pos and neg two to power it up? Cheers mate
Nice Grant Man, i still have one that sound's great, more important which Antenna you running, i guessing a Mk1 Station Masrer 5/8 Shockwave from Peter (shockwave thomastown) in Vic is really good or the Imax2000 over a Yagi is great
Can you pls tell where to adjust my old president grant cause I’m a bit off frequency on sideband during transmit. Mine has mb8719 pll same as yours. Thanks 🙂
Do you guys always hang out on 35 SsB? We have some really good solar conditions and would love to get you guys one night or day whatever works. I have the second generation grant XL from the Philippines. It rocks on ssb..I have a 3 element beam and (3) 3-500zs that goes 10-160m with a yeasu FT102 behind it. I am a ham also de w1cjf.
My favourite CB radio as well!...

My first radio was a TRC handheld 40cb AM walkie talkie from Tandy Electronics... Back in mid 1980's.
