To me making this argument is comparable to going to one guy who lives sustainably and see they can't afford much and go to another house who has a completely unsustainable lifestyle and then conclude the second guy is the one to be like. If it's not sustainable then its not worth advocating for, and a system where the population can only maintain their standard of living by relying on people who are generally homophobic, antisemitic and just generally sexist seems to me to be a tad ridiculous. No one I've talked to really disagrees with that description of what's going on besides saying its a bit "unfair" without actually making a specific criticism, but most go out of their way to ignore what the outcome of this will be over a long enough timeline which to me seems obvious.

@@hape3862 Then you should have an obvious argument against one of the following:
      1. Birth rate among native born citizens will continue to be below replacement in every country.
      2. Immigration will continue to be primarily from the nearest countries with a growing population which in Europe's case are going to be the Middle East and North Africa.
      3. You still need a minimum ratio of workers to retired to make these policies work.
      4. Immigrants from the Middle East and North Africa are going to continue to be illiberal due to Islam.
That's all you really need to believe that what's going on in Europe is inevitable and the degree to which you people are unable to handle such a simple and straightforward conclusion from a small number of points that are very unlikely to change. I don't think you do actually have anything and are just hoping I'm deranged because you don't like the conclusion.

As a person with a Chinese lineage living in Japan, learning about Europe and how its countries and regions have overcome various barriers/borders to form a unified yet highly diverse identity has planted an idea of a single East Asian identity deep inside me.
I can talk about how envious I am of Europeans for hours. In Asia (and I'm sure also pretty much all of the world except for Europe and its colony nations such as the US), ever since we came under the pressure to modernize at around 19-20th century, when we studied foreign books or ideas, that "foreign" only meant European. Despite the heavy geographical and historical connections between different East Asian countries, I feel like we've become so fixated on this idea of catching up the West that we've forgotten to properly look at each other, and now the biggest thing characterizing East Asian international sentiment is mutual hate.
It's not all bad though, if it was I wouldn't be able to hold this identity for too long. Past several decades of successive economic miracles and liberalizations, first in South Korea (1980s), then in Taiwan (1990s), and finally in China (2000s), have completely transformed economic and cultural dynamics of this region. Where it used to be only Japan and HongKong that had any international significance here until 1980s, now we have KPOP, Korean and Taiwanese electronics, and a Chinese economic domination in every sector. I vividly dream of a day when the remnants of Japanese colonialism, communist illiberal political systems, isolated bilateral dependence on the US can all be put in our museums and replaced by post-colonial, liberal democratic, multilateral alliances, and we can finally appreciate how similar yet wonderfully different we are.
I'm sure we'll get there some day. Happy Europe Day from East Asia!

@@santostv. So I remember when I was in England in 2016 right after they voted to leave, and was surprised when the students I talked to said the UK wasn't a nation (or maybe a country? don't quite remember) but instead 4 nations which shared one government.
Now I recognize that there is a definition of nation being used here, but for most people it absolutely does not matter. If the EU becomes like the UK then it also would not matter to anyone outside of the EU, what would ultimately matter is who do you contact if you are a foreign government trying to engage in foreign policy, who holds the reigns of power?
It's absolutely true that currently that power is with the heads of state of the various countries. But what is weird to me is that it is incredibly obvious that the people running the EU want to make it one country, that they have been since the 90s, and that anyone outside the EU was both aware of this and completely unsurprised the direction it has gone than people who live within it.

The EU is an insanely cool project. Thank you for highlighting it. Europe has historically been such a war torn region so the fact that all the people here could come together to work for the common good while maintaining their sovereignty gives me hope for a future where all of the world can follow Europe's example. The fact that people in countries outside the EU speak about wanting to join the EU is also pretty cool when you think about it. Russia and China need to mobilise their militaries to force people to join them yet Europe is so attractive that people voluntarily want to join us.

The saddest part about seeing our continent decline is that most people areound us seem completely oblivious to what is happening. Just right now, the EU pushed their decision on EV import duties from China behind the date for the European election. But, while Germany's most important industry is about to be completely smashed by technologically superior Chinese competition, this hardly registers in the media or the consciousness of our German politicians. I sometimes feel that 90% of this country consists of small town boomers who have not yet realised how far europe has fallen behind the rest of the world and what that means for us. Maybe it us because the boomers always grew up in safety and comfort, unlike the Chinese, so they don't know what is done to those nations that fall behind in the race for technology and geopolitical power. Standing at the top of the global hierarchy for 400 years has made us inward looking, backwards, and complacent. We do not notice how the world is changing, and that we are about to be swept away by vigorous, young, and ambitious powers, like China was in the 19th century. Well, we will learn what this world does to the weak soon enough, and that would propably count as an instance of cosmic justice in the grand scheme of things, when going by the things we have done while still in power 😂

Outside of the EU we'd be the same, but instead of wishing France to view us favourable it would be the US, but they've not even given us visas yet, but we accepted American Black Sites in our capital and had to pay ECHR because of the Americans torturing people in there.

I would recommend Postwar from Tony Judt. It's ( surprise) about the postwar era and shows how the European project develops out of a time of despair. He does a pretty good job in my opinion.

It is a good continent for long term colonization. It has built cities, roads, and energy sector. Since the occupants are aging and will be gone soon it’s a good land for colonization. If the Dar Al Islam is kept out then this continent that has so much potential can finally be of some use.
