Our washing machine broke during lockdown. We ordered a new one online and for 1 month I dragged incontinence pads and bedding to the laundry mat every day. It was stressful and I was good sport until the new washing machine showed up and it was broken! My husband went to the store. They said it would take another month for the same one so he asked for the one I really wanted but was out of our budget range. Got the more expensive one plus a discounted base for the same price we paid and it was delivered the next day. Now I always try to exercise my negotiation muscle but he was my hero that day.
I have never laughed 😂 as hard from a RUclips video as I have just now! Thanks for the laugh and for the gold mine on how to do negotiations. Definitely taking notes!
I’m wife but I also jump right in & haggle. My husband is super manly & all of the things, but I love to negotiate so I immediately start & he just stands there as the sales person keeps waiting for him to jump in since he’s the “decision maker”
Businesses are not ashamed to take our money, they're not looking out for my interest. So I have no shame requesting a discount. I'd say 60% of the time, I get a discount because I am bold enough to ask for one. The trick is to do it with confidence and respect.
Just an insight that many people don’t know. When you return a banana or an avocado bag the store doesn’t pay for that they discount that to the farmer. (That’s why they have no problem receiving a bad item back) Meaning the farmer in most instances does not get paid until the produce get sold.
I listened to this on podcast and I must have been quite a sight laughing my tail off walking my dog down the street. That negotiation scenario was gold. 😂😂😂
Absolutely hilarious! I’m a bit George and a bit Rachel though. I struggle to steel myself to the salesperson’s personal backstory and the best advice is “if you haven’t sold the “item” in a month give me a call”. I’ve gotten calls within days of walking away.
GEORGE!!!! I’ve had this happen to me at target!!!! I didn’t know about the no receipt game, would’ve saved me another trip. You are doing the Lord’s work 😂🙌🏼
George is really a funny guy 😆 When he told he did not care about rejection after highschool I felt that. I think as a guy you face way more rejectian as a woman which could leed to better negotiating and not being afraid of rejection. This is not a comment to bash women or anything like that , just something I observed over the years in my own life
Ric was a pro! And so was George! And Rachel did well to walk away. I’m not a haggler at all. But I am very good at stalking a good deal. I will stalk an item I want for years in order to get it on sale. My late husband was a lot like George and a very shrewd negotiator. I miss him. It might have made me cringe a few times, but it also saved us a lot of money. Great episode as always 👏🏻
Im with rachel, Im not a haggler, if I'm going to a yard sale, I try to bring my sister because she will shamelessly counter with the lowest price you've ever heard
I've only been to Michael's twice in the last 5 years, so I'm not signed up for their mailing list. But, I know that store usually has good coupons. When I buy something i say "I didnt bring any coupons, do you have one I can use?" I got 20% off my entire purchase.
I bought an item at Target that I could not try on bc they had closed their changing rooms bc of COVID. I got home and it didn't fit. I took it back to exchange and they refused bc of "COVID". So I walked back to the section, put my item back and grabbed my size and walked out. Still don't feel bad about it.
I'm 73-year-old woman.....I never knew I COULD negotiate (for appliances, new clothing etc.) unless the event is a flea market or a home price. I imagine that haggling is a challenging thing for George.
My daughter when she was about 12 took some yogurt to the register and asked if they could take some off since the expiration date was that day. I’m not this way some I’m just looking at her like what. The checker says yes she will take some off the price and asked what was she going to do with it. She replied freeze it - it was the gogurt tubes. I wish I was more like her.
I have never laughed so hard! I listened via podcast the first time and had to come back to the video to watch it. I love have laid-back this podcast is.
I don't know if anyone else thought this, but when Rachel said she had 65K in a bag, I thought Rick was going to ask if she was a drug dealer looking for a boar to flee the Country. I laughed so hard!
I draw the line at haggling on handmade items. I make jewelry ( Often custom, and sometimes on the spot at a show) and although sometimes I will give a deal if someone is buying several items, I try to keep my prices as reasonable as possible and folks making items for sale rarely get paid what they are worth anyway. Would you go to work for less for a day?
After working at Walmart and being the entry level employee years ago and being given the power to give 10% off for "damage box" or whatever... everywhere is safe to negotiate.
The boat negotiation role play has me dead😂😂 George really is a character
Yup😂😂😂
I stopped listening to the podcast just to start watching this part 🤣🤣
Rick is a mighty good negotiator
20:17
I'm dying 🤣🤣🤣. Rachel not being able to keep from laughing is the absolute best. George played that role flawlessly.
I am DYING at "Rick" and Rachel's boat negotiation. Man! George is SO good at this! Pure comedy GOLD! I just.... wow! 😂😂😂
The role play was hilarious! George is great at improvisation and Rachel laughing uncontrollably just had me cracking up 😂
Now do a negotiation where George sells a horse. Lol
I am selling my car today. I need George here!
The boat role play is the funniest thing I’ve seen all week😂😂😂
Omg that little skit...😂😂😂😂
George, how on earth are you the way you are.
"You ask anyone within a quarter mile radius, they'll tell you I'm the best in town" 😂😂😂
Usually when someone tells me they've had a family member pass my first reaction is "did they die on a boat?" Lol

The role play was priceless...I was laughing so hard I was crying! I love this podcast!
Great episode! I am not a negotiator so I appreciate George’s tips. “Be kind, please rewind.” Too funny! 😂
I don’t haggle. Thank God my hubby does! I say what I want and for what price and I walk away and he does all the work! He’s a pro and loves it!

@@OopThereItIs77777 Lol, little do they know, we make the decisions (and the husband supports us)
@@b.c.2836 Lol it 100% turns them on

I’m with Rachel. Laugh so hard I cried! Lol 😂 One of the best episodes! If ever do best of… this be one for it.
Hilarious episode! Thank you for the laugh. I can’t haggle anything but at least I have the tools now.
Can’t believe how hard y’all made me laugh on this one! 😂
The role playing was absolutely hilarious!
George, you are the champ and Rachel is the dark horse in negotiation, Winston drops her in as the cool don't care negotiator when he needs it :)
Omgoodness, that boat negotiation was so FUNNY!!
I almost choked on my tea, that boat purchase role play was the best 😂
This may be my favorite episode of Smart Money Happy Hour ever. I love George and Rachel.

Banana and avocado bags?? What on earth?? We definitely don't have these in myarea!
This is the first episode I have watched and I have been laughing for 20 mins. Great content 😂
the boat negotiation had me crying 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I listened to this on podcast and I must have been quite a sight laughing my tail off walking my dog down the street. That negotiation scenario was gold. 😂😂😂
The Target return happened to me, they said I could return at any location it just has to be the next day
Not Rick's stepbrother Dick 😂😂😂
Thanks for the laughs 😂 loved the role play, “Rick and Dicks” 😝
Absolutely hilarious! I’m a bit George and a bit Rachel though. I struggle to steel myself to the salesperson’s personal backstory and the best advice is “if you haven’t sold the “item” in a month give me a call”. I’ve gotten calls within days of walking away.

Returning something to the Dollar Tree could go under the Guilty as Charge thing.
“Give me a dollar off, Bob.”
Love this
My husband asks for the friends and family discount. It works. We end up saving at jewelry stores, furniture stores and appliance stores.
This was so awesome haha
I've only been to Michael's twice in the last 5 years, so I'm not signed up for their mailing list. But, I know that store usually has good coupons. When I buy something i say "I didnt bring any coupons, do you have one I can use?"

Ha wow
I would not either. Screw em
I have no patience for using COVID as a reason.

I don't know if anyone else thought this, but when Rachel said she had 65K in a bag, I thought Rick was going to ask if she was a drug dealer looking for a boar to flee the Country. I laughed so hard!

I do want me a Mastercraft 2021 with a V8 boat now 😂😂😂
It’s a god tool when it comes to buying a car or house. Don’t see it when it comes to jobs but always gotta ask for more
After working at Walmart and being the entry level employee years ago and being given the power to give 10% off for "damage box" or whatever... everywhere is safe to negotiate.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I negotiate at the dollar store😂
Yeah, I raise Frenchbull Dogs people trying to negotiate all the time.
It’s more lowballing than it is negotiating
I don’t care what you felt, facts are your friends! 💀
✝️
Omg, that was funny
Looking into the airport because they actually have to pay you and give you free tickets
