Please bring back the Mahler Festival Documentaries! They are a fantastic and beautiful visual representation of Mahler's life. They inspired me so much, please make them available again 😊
Well I must say I had the chance to attend a concert in the Concertgebouw while visiting Amsteerdam for the first time 3 years ago. I had not noticed that I was in the same hall as Gustav Mahler... I really enjoyed Mr. Seldis's comments and his enthusiasm at playing Mahler's 1st Symphony in that building. My Mahler's 1st Symphony memory is actually from seeing Ken Russell's Mahler in the 70's in a theater in my hometown of Quebec City. There is a wonderful scene where Mahler (the actor) is seen in a private wooden cottage at the end of a deck on a lake surrounded by the Alps. He is dancing to the music (waltz) of the 2nd Mvt. Etched in my memory for life.
Some bass players (and other instrumentalists) like to play solos and some simply don't want to play solo. They may have equal temperaments but differ regarding playing a solo. Go figure.
What ruined this video for me was the fact that he wouldn’t shut up ,,,,,,, I wanted to hear him play not preach . Play first then explain, play an example then explain,,,,,,

Any idea why the documentaries of this online Mahler series are taken offline?
Are Mahler Festival documentaries still available on your website?
Rip Maestro Jansons 😭
Nice intro. I'm looking forwart to what a trombonist (Bart Claessens?) has to say about Mahler 3!
The open goal of bass solos

Is it true that Mahler wanted this melody a bit out of tune? Why did he wanted it and why are a lot of orchestras not doing it?

how do you expect someone to explain something without talking? Explain first, so people know what to listen for.
Its not hard....only thing I can think is lots of players actually arent that good....
All elements considered, this is deceivingly difficult, this is only easy from a technical standpoint.
