- Rick West rocks a classic late night Fl Breaks set at Cyberzone in 1999 Orlando Fl. This video was mixed live from HTG's video booth. At the time HTG was broadcasting live video and audio streams from the club - one of the first to ever do so. You can find HTG still today as one of Florida's premier event promoters still carrying the EDM flag at www.htg-events.com

Love the music still in 2024!!! CLASSIC!!!
I moved to Orlando in 95. I wouldn't trade the decade that folllowed for anything. Cyberzone, Firestone late night and Old School Sundays, Disco night at Barbarella....thank you Rick for the soundtrack to what has been an amazing ride❤
Omg, every frkn track is the best in my life...this entire set takes me back to my 20s..now at 46 it's just as amazing as it was back then...ravers, bboys, candi kids, taggers, punks, all the weird or cool people always showing up best part was when the bboys from Albuquerque would all show up to the El Paso TX raves and take up an entire area of the dance floor and breakdance pop lock to the EPTX break djs...there were 2 djs that played Florida breaks back in the mid to late 90s and darn got me hooked on the Florida breaks..always a dream to go to Florida and hear the breakbeat djs..I never been but it's on my bucket list..until then I LOVE YOUR FLORIDA BREAKBEAT SCENE.. MAD RESPECT & MUCH LOVE, ❤❤❤ PLUR FROM THIS LATINA FROM EL PASO TX...
As a Latino kid who grew up in Florida during this period of time I can definetely say Florida was the place to be back in the 90s and early 2000s. I have so many great memories, and what a great damn time.
Central Florida was a good place to be. From 97-2000. Thank you Mr. West.Your flavored beats collection helped me feel the beat other then react differently. God Bless. Always a Central Florida Legend.
FACTS!!!
Lamb Chop says hi!!🎉🙌
RIP...from Ybor/Tampa/Clearwater 86 to 1999 ouch getting old sucks Peace...
Rick was one of the most non credited djs and I feel he didn't get enough credit for his mixing ability, his production skills and all the exceptional compilations he put out- he was a genius! RIP Rick West we will miss u and u have made your mark!
drugs
best fl break dj as far as smooth transitions. RIP indeed. Still touches my heart!
Jeffrey Ayers rick was also extremely humble and kind.
Agreed completely. He was the best, saw him live over 5 or more times. Nice gentleman, as well.
No, not actually. Look further into it brother. His death has nothing to do with drugs.
I remember going in to the Painted Puppy back in the day to buy CD's from Rick. Even though I was just a regular customer, he was always very kind to me and would chat with me, such a great guy! Legend, and truly missed.
Rest in peace Rick! You and Painted Puppy made the Breakz scene what it was!
R.I.P Rick West you will be missed I was there to see the whole scene unfold from 93 to 2000 those are some of my favorite memories. You were my top fav of all the break beat artist. Peace out

Orlando was the shit!! No.doubt!👋 Those were the days😋 Memories l wil never forget!💯 #RaVEBuNNy👯.
Still love the music.❤
miss it too Tyra
it really was the "rave" capital... it made the underground scene from u.k. to the west coast kneel down to our sound.!!!!
By 99-00 I was married with a kid and lived out of state, but i remember the old skool joints before things got crazy. Listening to Icee at the Edge or DJ Orlando in the back room off Lee Rd. When we had 1 record store in town that sold breaks...man. Miss those days.
Tyra McCarthy hi
Remember when clubs started offering cash to turn in ppl with drugs.
Rick west was a friend and badass DJ spent many nights at cyberzone.dancing til 4 in the morning.
many nights!! . .. One night we were there: Afco-skynet was there auditioning. When we walked out of the promoters house up the street heading for the club. everyone was outside. We were like whats goign on. . . ohh they towed everyone car who. We walk around the corner the tow guy is ready to leave with one, we stopped him and asked about it. he said he was coming back for one more. . . it was ours was off in the corner. so many crazy stories about this place.
I did not know of Rick West's passing and am sorry to hear this, he had a huge impact on me . I was at his Flavored Beats release party at Cyberzone, when he took the stage at 4am, was so awesome, also saw him in Cocoa Beach, Storm Club and also at Krush, but he was so good and just sorry to hear this.
Storm Club was the shit in 99 and 2000. Watched Baby Anne while rolling my ass off. Saw Rick twice and went to after parties with him
Ahhh the blue room after Cyberzone was so chill let’s not forget about Simons and the Gville scene as well. Heck Jville too 618 and club5!
@@nicholassanders9514 we lost Derek steplight aka DJ Dextreme also . He was a real good friend of mine. He taught me how to mix and got me into being a DJ.
I was blessed to make it to Florida while he was still at this club-I danced hard all night. AWESOME memories
Hello , How are you doing my lady , Am Alex . can I get to know you more. Please
Four of us moved to Orlando in '93.. We had no idea at the time, that we were at Ground Zero. We were so fkn Lucky.
Been a big fan for years. Rick West, only old school break beat junkies know about. I'm one of those junkies. At work release after doin 12 years an I only got til Jan. 10,2015.
It's been a long trip, but this shit is over. Peace Rick and every break beat junky out there
You still out?
Billy, you the guy with a samurai tattoo on back and a fairy sitting in a mushroom?
I haven't listened to breaks in awhile but every single time I listen to the old school Florida sound it brings me back to all of Florida!! I'm a South Florida native so the Edge and then it became The Chili Pepper, Play, Casablanca, 3299, the original Club Space, Nocturnal,, Liquid, Level, and then in Orlando the Blue Room, Firestone, Cyberzone, and others I was partying so hard I couldn't remember, then Tampa..... Masquerade, 1509, Amphitheatre, Floyd's, and I'll never forget Simon's in Gainesville!! Those were the days!!!
Ahhh heck yeah!!! Blue Room was awesome after Cyberzone let’s not forget the Soul House in Gville.. Jacksonville scene was pretty tough too.
You just named them all but Tampa had The Fantasy Ranch too
Best times of my life were in Cyberzone....this was an epic era!
Dont forget the Groove at City Walk in 98 and 99 too. Glow Boy used to rock the house
This girl Lamb Chop was a huge regular at Cyberzone, she was a badass chick every time I saw her.
Just got hipped to this guy 3/4 years ago.. RIP all his mixes are consistent... Raw n funky
seen Rick a thousand times kept us rockin soulrays, cyberzone, outer limits.been listening too this music since 1991. I was part of the old skool.
+Jonathon Valin rocked soulrays with heart and soul
+Eugene Benitez were you at Visage, Ahz and the Edge too? Way way back....
R.I.p. rick. Had the pleasure of opening for him and visiting painted puppy records. He was awesome. I was blown away at how fast he mixed
He was so clean his sets sounded endless. Miss this time in history.
There will never be time and place like cyberzone back then. It was some of the most fun I've had in my life. The hole scene was awe inspiring from the music that you didn't hear anywhere else to the break dancers. What a time it was to be a teenager having fun.
Being in my early 20's through the late 90's and early 2000's was an absolute pleasure. Living in Orlando and being apart of the breakbeat scene, was an awesome experience. Something I will always treasure!
People that weren't there will NEVER understand
Blue room on Thursday night for him then down to Firestone for Mike B
& his squirt guns. He could scratch but when he battled Magic Mike he got humbled. Fixx & Keith MacKenzie, Friction & Spice didn't get enough credit either.
OMG. Cyberzone. wow talk about a blast from the past!!! love.....
Rest In Peace! So happy I was able to meet and talk to Rick West! Super kind person amazing artist, music lover!
I remember waiting in line to get in cyberzone and the place would be banging. Good times
Wow, so good to read the comments from all my friends. I also was there, ICON, CyberZone, AAHZ. Rick West, had a Resident on Thursdays @ the BlueRoom. I would get off work. Change in the car. Dance my ass off for 3 hours every Thursday. I love you Rick. Thanks for the Music, Vibes, Friendship, Memories. PLUR
still listening 2019!!! ♪
Heavier Than Gravity - Rick West - And the crew in da house. ( always amazing ) R.I.P dude! Mad respect till this day!
I was in S-W Florida from 98-2004. That scene was insane....lol. I will never forget. Some of the best times I ever had was down there and this scene.
RIP, Rick. You'll never know how much you inspired my love of electronic music and the FL Breaks scene. We will miss you
He was a great man and his music will live on in the hearts of the old school generations of the 90s party people
Kevin Gillespie what happened to him?
+Kelly Rodriguez accidentally overdosed
Oh, man.
@Chuump88 that's not true. It had nothing to do with drugs.
Dood, I want to thank you for this track. Such a legend in Florida. Great upload.
Rick West was the best DJ of his time I still for a split second while listening to this feel like I'm rolling
R.I.P. my brother to one of the all time greats. Omg this brings back the days of the Orlando ,Tampa Raves Florida has the best breakbeat DJs in the world. 808 for life.
Drove to CyberZone every Friday night from 99-01 from Daytona when Sol-Rays line up sucked... Still remember the bar that glowed with your handprints lol
Musta seen each other there cuz I pretty much went same times. 1am-sun up
600 North on New year's eve was insane to, first sunrise.
the the bass in 600 North was the s***. I started going there after sol rays. don't forget lollipops right across the street from 600 North and Daytona :-)
RIchard Hartzel I was there for that, many rooms going off to choose from
It was insane all right. The pagoda roof collapsed 10ft. behind me about 30 seconds after I moved off of it. I grabbed a girl up and out of the pit and another girl broke her arm falling through the roof. That was my fondest memory of the night. I will never forget it.
Roof fell in on people crushing them... I just walked out that room to turn around and see arms n legs hanging out... shit was nutty... SolRays was my joint tho
One of the best memories I cant remember.....
I think I can speak for all of us to say we have NEVER heard someone say "boy, I had a shi++y time at that rave..."
Rick was one hell of an artist over 15 years I really appreciated his music. His flavored beats collection will live on forever.

Gone but never forgotten. Used to hang out at Icon and watch Rick spin. He was and will always be a legend of Orlando Breaks.
I was there for this set, and at Cyberzone every chance I could get. Resident bb! Lamb Chop in the house 🙌🫶
I was here. Such a big smile on my face. R.I.P Rick I still have the t-shirt from your memorial night. Some of the best time of my life wad at events where Rick would be on the flyer.
Cyberzone was my main hangout back in the day! Dabbled in lots of other clubs and parties but Cyberzone was special! Nothing else quite like it. Always, always, always good vibes, best wardrobes, best music, best toys, best crowds. Then Liquid for the afterparty. Fuck my high school reunion, but I'd have a cyberzone reunion!
+Keaton Taylor I know right! I lived out of that place! loved it!
+LadyMayhem00 Cyberzone, Heaven, H20, the Blue room (downtown), Firestone, Solrays, Icon (rarely). House of Blues on service industry nights...but Cyberzone was the best for its time. Some of the Underground parties in the warehouses off 17-92, but they may have been closer to The Edge days. Memory a little fuzzy, but it was amazing always having 40 of your friends around you dancing and blowing each other up.
+LadyMayhem00 Yesssssss -- I probably rubbed your shoulders at one point or blew vicks in your face, hahaha.
+Keaton Taylor Do you have any of the Wutam or Huda shows?
+Keaton Taylor. probably and I probably did for you too lol. I went by Queen back then, tall skinny blonde hair girl with blue tips most of the time lol 😄
I was chilling with Rick a few months before he passed away at Mojos Memorial party in the 941 . its sad the passing of the two both great artist and friends R.I.P.
This scene was peaking (I remember very little of '99) Awesome post=)
the scene peaked in 96 to 97 and started going down hill after that bunk beans fake shit everywhere cops raiding everywhere.
@@mattsizzanoname6808 shit...the actual fake beans started coming around with those 007 piperazine pieces of shit in like 2000
I was a RAVER and loved, and still love all the music…but BREAK BEATS were always my favorite!!! Then the kids that would dance to this….. AMAZING!! So glad I experienced that whole scene!!
HE'S A BAD MOFO ON THE VINYL !!!!!!!!!!!!!! SAW HIM WITH MIKE N CHARLIE EAST COAST FL.
Nice tribute video to Rick West. I actually feel bad for people that didn't get to experience these badass times whether you experienced it in Lousinana or Florida. Two states that absolutley pioneered the breatbeat scene. Love seeing more and more people uploading this genre of music to keep Breakz alive. PLUR

Some of the best years of my life 1995-2000. Before 5.0 caught on we had some seriously epic raves.

We miss him still to this day! There is still a breakbeat event here and there in Florida if you are in the area!
I started listening to Rick West and DJ Rick P in 1998- because of those two I fell in love with the breakbeat/dance/tech/trance etc music scene. OMG party 95.3 was to me the greatest station ever. I went to college in Miami and that's how I found Ultra music fest and it went from there. Because of those two artist, they changed the soundtrack of my life forever. 💜💙💚💛🧡❤️

Very few people mention smaller clubs so I want to see who remembers Club Kays, Studio 183, Ice Palace, Cafe Casablancas (The Button South), Afterhours at Zippers "The Bass Station", Salvations- Thats simply repping a few Miami clubs I had a blast at. Feel free to add your own from other parts of South Florida like Club Soda, Abandoned Winn Dixie parties, Moscows, Purgatory @ Club Boca, Atlantis, The Chili Pepper?
