What song should we cover next? Let us know below
'39 by Queen ;-)
Tumbling Dice
Spanish Caravan by the Doors recorded with a ribbon!
@@KenGray-nl8mlmasterpiece! I’ve done that solo!
@@Positive_Teaaha! Very nice idea
Harvest was the first album I bought as a teen. Still love it.
Thanks ever so much for sharing
It's really awesome to see you showcasing clear classics when demonstrating the potential of these gears and equipment. Always a learning experience!
Aw shucks! Thanks ever so much! As I’m sure you tell I’m a huge Neil Young fan, this is our second cover of his! I did, Needle And The Damage Done, with me singing
@@Producelikeapro Oh yeah man! Neil Young is just a classic to see to in music on any scale. Can never go wrong with his songs!
@@RC32Smiths01 agreed, huge fan! One of the first shows I ever saw
Sounds very nice! I was looking last week to the Audioscape LA2A, but order a Stamaudio sa2a+ instead it was a little brighter but great low end, what i liked, and a blend mix knob what is unique to. Audioscape and Stam audio makes both nice and great gear. Thanks for the video!
Thanks ever so much Thomas for sharing!
i used to lust after these comps back when ebay was new ...i bet those sound amazing thanks guys for featuring this company... i bet they using some good parts looking at the price points
Thanks Kip! You Rock!
Sound great! I love these cover tunes all recorded with the same gear. Really mimics what happens in our budget home studios. Invaluable info, thank you!
Totally agree! That’s exactly why do them! This is with an Audient interface
Great job Love the mixer guy explained everything perfectly,Thanks Warren and family❤
I can't think of a singer more suited to this cover. I fell right into the music and everything else faded into the background.
High marks to the rest of the band as well! Solid.
That’s wonderful wonderful to hear! We loved doing this
@@Producelikeapro I loved hearing it. The song has always resonated with me, and today it reached a new level due to all your dedication to music. You guys and girl(s) should release an album some time (if you haven't already).
@@ItsMe-gw4kb agreed 100%!
Thanks so much! This was a fun one!
@@caitlinvaughncarlos You all did a great version here. I'm interested to hear more.
BIG SOUND! I Love it! Everyone plays perfectly. And the vocal is the best. I hear the best bits of Victoria Williams :)
Thanks so much! It was lots of fun to do.
You Rock Caitlin!
Great! I love practicing mixing songs like this. Thank you for the multitracks.
Glad you like them!
@@Producelikeapro Agreed, Warren -- thanks so much for regularly doing this. I'm not a fan of the modern "sound" (too bright, too much compression), and have really really enjoyed getting to hear some new music mixed to my own sensibilities. Really enjoying Little Empire, Birds of Paradise's Spirit in the Room, and Da(y?)von Harper's Karma is My Friend.
@@nickwallette6201too much compression on modern records? They were slamming 40 db's in the 50s and 60s
@@mirkomarkovic3438 OK, fair point. But they were also dealing with considerable distortion and a signal to noise ratio equivalent to a phone call from the mosh pit of a concert.
Point is, for modern recordings, we have no excuse. We've got bandwidth from DC to daylight, and a noise floor as black as night. We've got all the bits, and only use the top 4.
@@nickwallette6201 those old machines weren't as noisy as everyone thinks. But i get your point, it was a different style of compression back then. Mostly Vari-Mus and you didn't have 10 mics on one source to conpress individually. I like a bit of both worlds.
I'm really enjoying my AS 260VU. Such a simple and beautiful sounding unit. Excellent value. I've become and Audioscape fanboy.
Agreed 100%
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
Marvellous Joe!
So much fun and man the Audioscape gear is AMAZING!!!!
Marvellous! Thanks ever so much
Sounds really good, man! Really neat to watch Warren and Eric working with the comps on the way in, and of course, always dig what Joe does at the board. I've got to get a pedal steel 😎
Awesome stuff, guys!
Thank you man!!
You Rock Joe!
Thanks! Yes, everyone did an amazing job!
I just built myself a dual/stereo LA2A and I also HAD to put the HPF pot on the front, it's SUCH a good mod to do for an LA2A, gives you so much more controll over the low end, and makes an already amazing compressor work much more rugidly in a modern enviroment with the more bass heavy styles we see today.
Yessss audioscapeeeee!
Yes!!!!!
Loving my D Comp 👊🏽💜👍🏽
Just ordered my 260VU
Audioscapoe sounds just like the original with all the buzzes and clicks of the old gear!
Very well said!
This sounds almost as good as that flat cap looks 👍 (If you can cover Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, I'll be impressed by the virtuosity and elastic vocals, I'm sure!)
Haha thanks! Glad you enjoyed the Flat Cap!
Great as always! Did I miss seeing the credits for the musicians/band? Thank you
Great job overall, but super awesome pedal steel guitar there - excellent work! one of my favorite instruments sound-wise.

The LA-2A does an amazing job at bringing out natural sounds of a room, including reflections. The high pass can reduce squeaky string sounds.

I pretty much drop a CLA-2A plugin on every vocal track, and it just works. I used to wonder how older music seemed to be fine without all our modern gadgets, but I think this is the answer: The best tools were made a long time ago, and they still work perfectly today.
The Audioscape gear sounds pretty good and affordable. Great stuff folks. Thanks very much

Great video! I think the 2A wasn’t the best choice for the steel guitar though. The release is too slow. Worked great on everything else though. AS makes great stuff at incredible value.
they both sound great! have you tried their V comp? if so, how'd you like it? thanks!
Wonder when Vintage Gear and Sweetwater will start a relationship with Audioscape. Sounds like great competition for Warm Audio.

Maybe? Interesting idea David

Is this the Spitfire studios yet? Wonderfull Mix and voice! Cheers!
Combination of the old studio and the new one!
Can we get a video using that Audient console behind you? I’d love to see/hear how someone would track and mix through it
Absolutely! Stay tuned!
Audioscape products aren't cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but they don't cost a tremendous fortune compared to OG models or their current reissues. I recently picked up a bunch of Audioscape units from a studio in Tennessee, and they definitely compare to my original vintage units and in some cases they're better. I'm not an LA2A fan, but I absolutely love the Opto Comp version. It's less glitchy, quieter, and being new and well built it's more reliable.
Agreed. Thanks for watching.
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
@@InTheMixJoeCarrellyou rock!
Great video!
The High frequency knob is turned all the way to the left? So that means just the low end was compressed?
The lows are not compressed as much when turned to left. The detector is not reacting to the lows when turned to the left.
I’m pretty sure that’s what he was saying.
@@henryhuynh2099 cool, thanks
Does anyone know why the DBX 160 vu amplifies certain transients and s,z,sh,p,k,t sounds in vocals!? is the attack too slow for hard rap vocals? (Dr.Dre used this comp to track vocals for Eminem, D12, G-Unit, Snoop, The Game, etc.) The track doesn't look more balanced after compression, but certain peaks stand out strongly. The track still looks pretty dynamic after compression.
Hi Warren! @ProduceLikaPro Can I ask what microphone you recorded the main vocals into? And also, what is the mic at 13:05 in which he is speaking? Sounds so good.
Thanks in advance!
The vocal mic is the JZ Blackhole 2
@@EricGPLAP Thanks. The other mic seems to be a Rode PodMic
Hmm maybe? I'll ask Joe!
How is the Audient console. How much do you love its preamps
We love Audient and yes, those Mic Pres are amazing!
Sounds wonderful, just missing one itsy bitsy little thing. The original song was recorded on tape, not digital
Haha yes, indeed!
Is there an application where one could do Mixbus with the 260 VU?
Absolutely!!
Your piano needs a tune ;) Awesome vid thank you
Haha yes, indeed!
Thanks for watching!
@@InTheMixJoeCarrellthanks for the great mix Joe
The AS LA-2A is so damn good. I also have their 1176 blue and the D-Comp that are both great but surprisingly the LA-2A is my favourite.
The transformer adds a real round low mid bump on vocals that I couldn't live without now and the tube output stage sounds incredible driven.
Its one of the very few pieces ive bought that I want another one, actually I want another pair.
To be brutally honest I prefer the Audioscape LA2A over my vintage and reissue LA2A's.
@@legacyShredder1 I’ve never had the opportunity to use an original but I’m not surprised it holds up against one. I think people get way to caught up in new equipment not sounding like the old stuff anyway. If it sounds good.. it sounds good!
Thanks for sharing LegacyShredder!
I've used both and I'm VERY happy with the Audioscape!
Would the 260VU be a good choice to use as the main parallel compressor? Basically feeding most of a mix to it for a dirty, over compressed sound? If not, what would you recommend?
Absolutely! It would be an excellent choice for that

Old Studio Vibes
Combination of the old and new studio!
Gated reverb drums?....Which era of old studio we talkin here?
would u say 260 sounds just like 160?
Yes, as close as possible
Nothing can match analogue sounds...
WE do love our analog equipment! However, plug ins offer amazing affordable results as well!
Hi Warren) This is all interesting) You make useful videos, spend your time, and help beginners and not only musicians) I have one question for you) What about the contest? Why do you ignore such questions? Say it's all gone) Many people spent their PR time doing their remix work) What about the contest?))
Lianne, the artist listened to every production and has chosen her favourites. We will be filming soon and announcing. It’s very important to me that every version was heard! Personally I didn’t want to hurry that process in order to rush out some winners, they have to be the ones that the artist loves! Doing it quicker and not listening to every mix would be a terrible thing, sorry us doing that slowed it down for you
@@Producelikeapro Thank you for your answer!

It sounds good, but especially the decision to go with THAT snare sound baffles me?! Put on cloth on it or something, Jesus! Also the vocals are wayy too processed as usual. To my taste. But apart from that, it sounds STELLAR! - just frustrating when so many things are done right, and a few things are so way off.
Please download the tracks and mix it the way you hear it! Excited to hear your mix!
Audioscape advertisement. They are always back ordered on a lot of their gear. Their gear does not sound the same as the UA gear, but its half the money and it still sounds good. The hp filter on the LA-2A is a plus over the UA. I found Audioscape better made and they sound better to my ears compared to many other clones out there.
